JIMMY LARICHE

Shooting wake photos while floating in the middle of the lake is an unsettling feeling. With the camera exposed to the air and elements, a single drop of water could ruin your day. For these type of shots, I’d slowly crawl into the water, then have someone else hand over the camera. It’s the best way to prevent myself from accidentally touching anything wet or possibly slipping. Other than that on your mind, you can’t reach the bottom of the lake with your feet or even see your chest. You never know what’s lurking beneath you either. There were two coast guard approved life jackets underwater with my legs through the arm holes. My legs and feet dangle through the holes like two bacon strips. Generally, you can bob there at about shoulder level. The weight of the camera and lens will push you deeper, making those life

Lake Saw Mill CLERMONT, FL

Florida has more to offer than a famous mouse, retired old farts and nice golf courses. Orlando is also the mecca of wakeboarding, duh. Riding is available year round, from sun up to sun down, on a variety of huge lakes across the city. As the thunderstorms roll in each summer, the colorful sunsets follow. After an evening of shooting with Rusty Malinoski, I shot this with my 16mm lens, while standing at the end of his dock. The rail seen at the bottom was left over from Hyperlite’s team video, Rewritten.

Eddie Valdez CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES

“Search and find, borrow and beg” was the underlying theme to our trip in Curacao. With not much more than a winch at our access, the choices and locations to shoot from were few and far between. After we finally got a boat and wake dialed in, we made use of a calm cove and floating barge that our newly made “local” friend lent to us. With the sound of blaring jamaican music in the background, Eddie Valdez booted some lofty double-ups, ‘mon. Classic.

A whip on a flex board with an unweighted boat is a wheely good time. Lean back, put your feet up, and pin it. Don’t forget to dodge the shore.
