THE PROJECTS, FL MARCH 27, 2011 CAMERA: NIKON D3 LENS: NIKKOR 80-200MM ANGLE: CHERRY PICKER
I’ll be honest, when I first heard the name Steffen Vollert, nothing rang a bell. “Have you ever heard of him?” Somebody asked. “Nope” was my fast, knee-jerk response. To my surprise, I got an even quicker reply, “Well, he’s good…really good. You’re gonna want to shoot him.” My opportunity was delivered this past March at The Projects in Bithlo, FL. Vollert was there among a few other, more “well-known” wakeboarders in the mix. Third or fourth to ride in the rotation that morning was Vollert, where he patiently waited his turn on shore.

Kevin Henshaw LAKE SHAWNIGAN, BC CANADA
Veteran riders like Henshaw know when the perfect time is to ride in the evening for flash photos. He’s shot numerous times with the annoying photo tube lingering below, and is certainly familiar with seeing wake photos from any angle. Before this shot, Henshaw did his homework by plotting out the lighting, angle and best time to ride. To imagine it is one thing, then you have to go out and execute. Henshaw stayed true to his strategy.

Ben Horan CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
As we quickly found out, the island of Curacao has no shortage of nude beaches. Who’d of thought? There were plenty of interesting composition opportunities very similar to this one, with birthday-suitsunbathers in the foreground...But who would want to see that?
