ON THE COVER

KEITH LIDBERG

By Mike Ennen Multiple weeks in France and lots of parting with a traveling group of gypsy rail riders birthed Keith’s new nickname, “Squidberg.” If you came up with a list of the most well-rounded riders on the planet, you would have to include Keith’s name near the top of the list. He can shred all three categories of today’s wakeboarding; Wake, Cable and Rails. Earlier in his career, he rode the wake doing almost all tricks switch and regular. Then, he pushed the sport of rail riding while living out at The Projects. I’d even say Keith pushed the Pointless Posse, the most progressive rail riders known in the sport. Thanks to Nautique, Keith lost his boat sponsorship and his opportunity to ride everyday. So what did Keith do? He turned to cable riding. At this time, cable was looked upon as the sideshow of wakeboarding, but Keith used

VIDEO

it as a stepping-stone to push his own riding and the sport itself. Have you ever heard of Tom Fooshee? Keith made it possible for cable riders like Tom to have a career. Overall, his influence has since changed the outlook on cable riding and is now more welcomed than ever before. Keith cares about our sport more than most. For someone that has been traveling the world trying to make a difference in cable riding, he’s done his job making cable riding look good. If you find yourself on the other side of the argument, don’t take it personal. All Keith is trying to do is

make our sport legit. The entire sport of wakeboarding. With the price of boats and gas in an unstable economy these days, cable riding has now become more widely recognized and accepted. It’s an aspect of riding that has often been referred to as “saving” the entire wake industry. You can thank Keith Lidberg for that.

Steel Lafferty LAKE MINNEHAHA, FL VIDEO

If you ever wonder who the “next generation” of shred heads coming up, the name Steel Lafferty will be in the mix. Reppin’ Liquid Force, MasterCraft, Red Bull and Nike 6.0 just to name a few, Steel will be sticking around for a while. With the exposure meter on the rise and the tricks to back it up, look for him to steadily make an impact in the future of the sport.

Harley Clifford LAKE TELLICO, TN

Every now and then, there is a shortage of hands to help out on these photo shoots. Especially when you need to have someone ride in the tube and get banged up while holding the flash. Getting the front row seat while Harley laid it down, Andrew Adkison stepped up to the plate. Nice work Flash Gordon! You’re a natural. 8

Gabe Lucas LAKE OROVILLE, CA

On a whim, usually once a year, I get the opportunity to shoot with the ultra creative Gabe Lucas. It’s not often we cross paths living across the country from each other, but when we do, I’m always blown away by the amount of quality images he produces. Some riders “get it” and some don’t. Gabe is like a photo factory.

ABSTRACT

BEACHED

If you’re just getting into photography, do yourself a favor and buy an older 35mm film camera. You’ll learn more, get better composition, and have better patience. This double exposure was shot with a Minolta, my favorite camera in the stash. I picked it up at a thrift store. “You never know whatcha gonna get.”
