ON THE COVER
GABE LUCAS
By Joey Meddock In the slow, not-exactlyflourishing world of Wake, you can make a living riding a board three ways. One, go beat Harley and win contests that will earn you prize money and potentially more sponsors. Two, be good and creative enough to get worthy video and magazine exposure that you could only hope means more sponsorship opportunities. Or three, have a real side job. If you are among the few lucky enough to do both really well, you probably haven’t had a real job in a long time, if at all. While he can’t necessarily hang with those winning podium positions, the podium winners can’t necessarily hang with the unique raw talent of CWB’s Gabe Lucas. Without a doubt, Lucas is one of the most creative riders out there. He constantly scouts

new locations to winch while finding a variety of ideas to shoot all over Texas, California and beyond. He’s fun to watch off the wake and is guaranteed to blow your mind with one trick or another. Choosing the road less traveled, you have to step it up in other ways that will make your statement heard. You’ve got to have that “it” factor to ever stand

a chance. Gabe gets it. He does everything on a wakeboard his own way. Gabe

already natural creative genius and that real job will have to wait a little longer.

Grant Roberts ORWOOD, CA
“Before any one really knew who Grant Roberts was, AKA “GR Wake Killer” (as affectionately known by
his Obscura counterparts), he was popping kneehigh ollies onto flat bars and doing big spins in front of my camera in Orwood, California. This was shot a while back. It almost brings a tear to my eye to think of how much he’s grown. Seriously… like two feet since the first time I met him until present day. But more than physical growth, Grant has proven himself to be a factor in the wakeskate community signing with companies like FOX and SPY. Also, look out for his new OBSCURA pro model for 2012. He’s accomplished a lot in his short (tall) career and I cant wait to see what he does next!!!” — Rodrigo Donoso

Boo! If I were to use a Freddy Kruger caption it probably wouldn’t even make sense to Freddy Wayne and I’d really just be dating myself.

Tom Fooshee SAN MARCOS, TX
Tom Fooshee really does have it better than most wakeboarders. He gets to travel the world riding the best cable parks, lives 10 minutes from Texas Ski Ranch, then when he feels like laying down a deep slaysh behind the boat, he’s got the Guadalupe River right in his own backyard! Must be nice to be King!

RATTLE SNAKE CROSSING?
Lake Oroville CALIFORNIA
Just when you think you’ve seen it all... WTF, for real? It’s not like we need another thing to worry about in the water. I’ve seen drunken boaters, giant gators, water moccasins, otters, fresh water eel, occasional deer… and now a rattle snake, courtesy of California’s Lake Oroville. Thanks for adding to my collection.
