ALL PHOTOS & CAPTIONS THIS ISSUE BY RODRIGO DONOSO www.rodrigophotography.com

You’ll like Rodrigo Donoso the first time you meet him. “Just a really good dude,” is what I would tell you. But you have to warn certain older folks, because he has a sort of Captain Caveman thing going on. Give him a Rockstar cap and stilts, and he’s a dead ringer for Scott Byerly. Not that it matters though. Rod has made his own name as one of the dopest lensmen on the water today. Now he brings a nice west coast flavor to this all-Rodrigo edition of Wake Journal. ON THE COVER

GRANT ROBERTS

A short story about the cover... As told by the one and only Rodrigo

Texas is a winch spot powerhouse. It’s completely covered with bad ass spillways. The “Dunlap Gap” located in Texas has produced a bunch of really sick images in the last few years. I happen to love winch photos for the nontraditional feel that they have, and this place seems to have been built specifically for shredding. It’s perfect and has multiple options so the chance to get an original photo here is pretty much up to the rider and how much he wants to push it… and whether or not your photographer has done his job capturing the moment. I was lucky enough to hang with the Obscura team back in December at the Reed household in Wimberly, Texas. We had a blast the entire time we were there and got to check out a bunch of cool spots that Aaron had lined up for

VIDEO

us. Dunlap Gap was one of them. Needless to say, I was stoked to get the chance to shoot this spot and try to capture a sick photo of my own here. After photographing this from a couple different angles, I ran across this perspective. I was instantly psyched on it because you could really get a sense of how big this thing was. I remember the feeling of knowing that I had gotten some really good

DUNLAP GAP

images when we were leaving this spot and couldn’t wait to get them onto my

laptop to take a better look. Whenever you have a successful day it’s only proper that you reward yourself with a good time. This trip produced some great times, and a handful of really sick images. Without the help of Aaron Reed, Stephan Schriever, Grant Roberts and Danny Hampson it wouldn’t have been possible.

Tony is fun to shoot with… He’s super consistent which is awesome when you really want to dial in the correct angle to shoot a certain trick. I asked Tony to do this a few different times to get it exactly how I pictured it in my head.
