ON THE COVER
HARLEY CLIFFORD
By Jeff Barton “I had my first chance encounter with Harley nearly a decade ago at the WWA World Championships. He was the ripe old age of 9 or 10, and you could already tell there was something unique about him. But it wasn’t due to how he acted; he was every bit the chill little grom, attracting no special attention to himself. Rather, it was how others treated him, the members of the Aussie faction that were traveling with him. It reminded me of a young JD Webb: a kid who was not only filled with promising talent but was wise and cool beyond his years. He was a grom who the older G’s could hang with and not find annoying due to the age difference. Destined for greatness, I knew right then and there. But this level of greatness? Nope, can’t claim I was that fabulous a foreshadower to know this was a kid poised to shape a new direction for wakeboarding. Shapiro was such a talent, so was Parks Bonifay. Then came Harf. And Rusty.
