EDITOR’S NOTE Most images have a “shelf life.” Some of
wakeboarding and wakeskating through
them however, will live on and last an entire
the art of photography. Or should it be
lifetime. For me, each image goes through a

cycle. Once it’s captured, I review the photo, try and find the perfect home for it, then submit and re-submit the photograph(s)
accordingly. Some of the photos are used for advertisements, some of them are used for editorial in various magazines, some of them are used for personal projects (imagine that), and a lot of them land on the cutting room floor. One way or another, who’s to say the photo is “old” or it can’t be seen again once it’s been through that cycle? At some point, in my opinion, the brands,
Wake Journal is a continuing project of mine that will give new “life” to thousands of “old” photographs. Every photo session in wake offers numerous images to choose from. Finding a home for those photos is just part of the challenge. I believe there is still justified purpose and good use for those notorious “cutting room floor” photos. They just have to find their home. At the end of cycle, the Wake Journal is my final resting place of photographic satisfaction. May the photos live on...

This photo was taken in the summer
about 100 feet above Kevin Henshaw. That above angle to shoot

This past summer, Jimmy LaRiche, Shane Bonifay, Erik Ruck and I packed into my truck (with winch in tow) and drove from Orlando, FL to San Antonio, TX stoping in New Orleans, LA at the half-way point for “rest. After a quick nap and eight more hours of driving, we finally reached our destination, where Aaron Reed led us to this insane winch spot. Apparently, the wall would only overflow with water when they had a severe downpours and consistent storms. Lucky for us, it rained our entire trip.

The winch rope was whizzing over my head. I had to
that you can’t see, just outside the frame. The water I’m

pond from a passing tropical storm. The van is literally
entire van in the shot. I had no other choice but to enter
parked (comfortably) in someone’s backyard, hence the

The tough part about shooting from the tube is keeping the port dry on the camera’s waterhousing. Any droplets of water will cause a bit of blurriness. Depending how the board releases from the wake, certain tricks will make a direct water impact. Case in point‌ Andrew Adkison. Making blurry look good.
