PHOTOGRAPHER, JOEY MEDDOCK
By Joey Meddock After chasing this sport now for 20+ years, I think the last 13 behind the camera were the most memorable, constantly trying to document, create something unique and something worth remembering; something different or “new.” No matter what angle I’m dealt, that rider’s perspective has always had intrigue to me. I know they are getting a whole different experience than I am over here, behind the lens, in the often “dry zone.” When I put a board beneath my own two feet, I see and hear things that only the riding experience itself can offer. Until the genius minds behind the GoPro camera, there wasn’t a good, safe way to translate the “on board” or “cockpit” experience. The GoPro camera is giving us a whole new way to see things, both on and off the water, above the earth and below it. They expose the closest perspectives you could possibly imagine (or not imagine). These cameras can capture the simplest of wakeboard moves, making them all of the sudden feel new,

swinging the doors of possibility wide open once again. “You have to have seen a lot of images before you can capture something that has never been seen.” I just made that up, but think about it. Get on a board and

I’m not always a fan of wake shots that don’t show the water. Keeping the water in frame allows you to make “sense” of the shot, where the rider came from, where they are going, and the height perspective. Twelker went so big off this double-up, he jumped out of my desired composition.
