MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR I joined the American Fork Chamber of Commerce six years ago. At that time, I was actively participating in eight chambers along the Wasatch front. While I always enjoyed my time networking and serving the business community in the various areas, I quickly noticed differences between the chambers. When I attended the American Fork Chamber of Commerce events, I was always greeted with a smile and introduced to as many business owners and professionals and local city officials as possible. I quickly learned the importance of working directly with them to find mutual success. I met with the AF Chamber’s leadership team to talk about what I wanted to accomplish and how they could help me, and we came
up with a plan to help me reach my business goals. In contrast, my experience at other local chamber events was frustrating. They were cordial, but the only time I spoke with chamber leadership was when I was being asked for money or to increase my membership. I was always assigned a seat, usually in the back, while those chamber members with seniority or who made larger financial contributions sat in the front. I didn’t give up easily, and I kept trying to break into the “inner circle”. I volunteered for committees and donated time and money. I finally realized that these efforts were in vain and that the American Fork Chamber was and continues to be very different! It’s the kind of different that you want to be a part of and that values each and every person and business we serve. We don’t care if you are the largest company in Utah or the smallest. You have a voice in the American Fork Chamber of Commerce and Lone Peak Business Alliance. We will listen to you and work with you to help you be successful. We are committed to making sure your membership provides

more value and support for your business than any other organization. Currently, I only belong to one chamber. It is not that I don’t want to see other chambers succeed or that they don’t offer anything of value, but I know where my time is best spent, where I can have access to all of the tools I need to succeed, and where I can have the biggest impact on the lives of the people in the community. This year, the American Fork Chamber of Commerce celebrates 75 years of serving the people and businesses of Utah. I invite you to join us; we have some fantastic events coming up and your presence will only make them better. We provide a wide variety of services and benefits that will help your business grow and succeed but also know that we can do better and provide more. To do so, we need your participation, your input and expertise, your passion and determination, and your willingness to serve others. Those are the things that have enabled the chamber to thrive since 1946 and that will continue to help the Chamber build on its legacy for years to come. I am a firm believer that we write our own destiny and that our history will be what we make out of today. I promise you we will hear your voice, value your input, appreciate your contributions, and do all we can to serve you and help make your business more successful. Congratulations to the American Fork Chamber of Commerce and a sincere thank you to everyone who has made the past 75 years possible.

CHAMBER ANNIVERSARY Newly Organized C. of C. Opens Campaign with Special Meeting This article originally appeared in the American Fork Citizen on Friday, May 3, 1946 The newly organized American Fork Chamber of Commerce opened its campaign for a busy year Wednesday evening when officers, board of directors and general members met at the City Hall, accepted the constitution and by-laws and officially met the new executive secretary, G. Easton Brown. President A. Ray Ellison directed the meeting and O. DeVere Wootton read the by-laws. Following a discussion and some minor changes the constitution and by-laws were approved by those present. Officers predicted a very active future for the new organization as American Fork is in a most strategic position for
the coming development of Utah County and our city is sure of some fast advancement in the future. The job of attaining housing, business and industrial buildings is conceded to be the number one problem for our community. Then comes public improvements, sewer system, greater water supply, parks, recreational development and dozens of other minor matters that go to build a healthy, growing, energetic community to which homeseekers are attracted, it was pointed out by club members. American Fork already has a wonderful foundation and start toward a good sized city and the direction of growth and development will largely fall on the new Chamber of Commerce. With the selection of Mr. Brown as secretary the group feels that this city organization is off to a fine start and with constant work on the part of every member the city’s future is assured. The Chamber of Commerce has already adopted the slogan, “Build a Greater American Fork”, and the full membership is pledged to carry on the C. of C. job. Offices of the organization will be located in the lobby of the Utah Power & Light Company on the corner of Main and Center street. A desk and necessary furniture will be secured and installed and Secretary Brown will establish regular office hours which are to be announced in the near future.

ANNIVERSARY EXTRAVAGANZA To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the American Fork Chamber of Commerce, an Anniversary Extravaganza is being held on Saturday, May 1st from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Robinson Park in American Fork. The entire community is invited to join the party! There will be food trucks, a Chamber member vendor fair, live music, activities for kids, and plenty of fun!
SCAVENGER HUNT At the Anniversary Extravaganza on May 1st, the Chamber will kick-off a month-long Scavenger Hunt to encourage residents to visit and patronize Chamber member businesses. This will be a fun way for the public to become familiar with some of the Chamber’s members and the products and services they provide.
Leaps Bounds D A N C E
The Chamber has been able to thrive since 1946 because of its members. Chamber leadership felt that it was important to find a way to celebrate and thank its members in a way that would benefit as many of them as possible and give them an opportunity to get out in front of the community. Since the beginning, the Chamber has been a driving force behind economic development in American Fork, and continues to work hard to find ways to help businesses succeed and grow. The American Fork Chamber of Commerce now has almost 300 members who benefit from the Chamber’s commitment to support local businesses and help them connect with each other and the communities that it serves. American Fork Chamber of Commerce members have a lot to offer through the products, services, and information they provide, and the Scavenger Hunt will enable Chamber members, local residents, and visitors to discover and learn more about the diversity of this great business community. There is no cost to participate and anyone may enter. Rules and activities will be available on the American Fork Chamber of Commerce website along with instructions on the app that the Chamber will be using. Participants will have a chance to win prizes and gift certificates from Chamber member businesses that are participating in the Scavenger Hunt. For more information visit www.americanforkchamber.org

AMERICAN FORK MAYOR’S MESSAGE In my short time as mayor, I have been privileged to attend the ribbon cutting ceremonies for many new businesses in American Fork. I love these events because I see them from many perspectives. As the mayor, I love meeting new people and seeing new businesses come into our city. As a business owner, I can appreciate the excitement and thrill of starting up a company. And as a resident, I appreciate the many and varied businesses available right in my own city. I still remember when an AF resident had to travel outside American Fork to get something. Now we never need to leave. But more than anything I am excited when a new business opens because they are becoming part of a
larger community that cares for our city. I love the businesses in American Fork because they love American Fork. We have 1,695 registered businesses in our city, 31 percent of which are classified as a home business. We have over 100 food establishments, 150 healthcare related businesses, over 250 retail stores and over 600 service-related businesses. In addition, we have many establishments in other fields like marketing, sales, financial services, manufacturing, and construction. Whether a small bakery or large corporation, the resource that ties all of them together is our Chamber of Commerce. We have a great chamber who does a tremendous job advocating for and promoting our businesses. With our city and our businesses working together, the whole truly has become greater than the sum of the parts. The businesses in American Fork are so much more than the goods and services they sell. They are a part of the very bedrock of American Fork. They are partners and sponsors in community events. Their presence draws residents into our community. What they sell helps fund the basic services that our

residents enjoy. They help define our very identity. In these ways we appreciate the new businesses as well as the ones that have been in our city for over a hundred years. We are all partners together in the risks, challenges, hopes, dreams, and successes of every business in our community. Their success is our success. The business owners I get to associate with are innovative, hardworking, entrepreneurial, and giving. No more was this observed then when COVID-19 broke out last year. They changed their operations to stay compliant, donated time and money to help those in need, and even pivoted the very services they provided to better serve the changing needs of their customers. Henry David Thoreau once said, “success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.” May our businesses find unequaled success as they continue to make serving our community their business. Mayor Brad Frost

AMERICAN FORK STEEL DAYS 2021 July 5-10 www.steeldaysaf.com Steel Days is an American Fork tradition that enables us to enjoy time with our families, our neighbors, and our community. This year, we are excited to be able to again put on the type of celebration that everyone has come to know and love. We were able to do most of the events last year, but look forward to a return of all of the Steel Days events this summer. Residents of and visitors to American Fork have enjoyed long-standing activities such as the Grand Parade, the Car Show, the Carnival, the Big Show, and Fireworks. We’ve also added some new events like Kids Splash Night, Movie in the Park, the Pickleball Tournament, and much more! Each year, our committee and volunteers spend countless hours researching, discussing, and planning every aspect of the celebration and work hard to bring fun activities to the community in a safe and enjoyable manner. Steel Days 2021 is going to be a celebration that will have something fun for people of all ages. This year, more than ever, we want to provide a way to celebrate and enjoy the bonds and associations that we have formed with each other but have missed during the pandemic. Whether Steel Days has been a family tradition for several years or you’ve never attended, you are invited to come and enjoy all of the fun that our celebration has to offer and make some memories of your own.

LONE PEAK BUSINESS ALLIANCE The Lone Peak Business Alliance (LPBA) was created in 2019 by the American Fork Chamber of Commerce in response to the growing need for representation and organization of the business communities in Alpine, Cedar Hills, and Highland, Utah. The LPBA helps businesses connect to the residents and cities in which they operate as well as build relationships with other business owners and professionals. The business communities in these three cities have been growing rapidly in size and scope. The LPBA was created to build a lasting and mutually beneficial working relationship between the businesses and the cities and to help serve the needs of the businesses
in those areas. The Lone Peak Business Alliance is also involved in several community events to help connect the businesses to the residents they serve. The LPBA will continue the tradition of the Alpine Main Street Trick or Treat and assist with the Highland Hometown Holiday as well as continue to look for additional ways to foster community activities and engagement. The LPBA has a professional staff that is trained to help local businesses succeed and remain a viable option for community members. The staff continues to spend time and resources to meet with businesses and gather feedback on what they need to be success-
ful. Based on that feedback, the LPBA will continue to create and develop programs and events that will provide the most benefit to the businesses. All members of the LPBA are also members of the American Fork Chamber of Commerce and will receive all benefits associated with Chamber membership. For more information or if you would like to join the Lone Peak Business Alliance, please visit our website at americanforkchamber.org.

ALPINE MAYOR PRO TEM’S MESSAGE Over the years, Alpine has developed from a farming community to the bedroom community we are today. Alpine’s geographical area consists of 7.96 sq. miles or 5,092.63 acres, and of that area the business commercial zone takes up .14 sq. miles or 95.53 acres. Interestingly, there are approximately 2,700 homes and business buildings within the city of Alpine, and there are currently 238 total active business licenses. Of those 238 licenses, there are 83 commercial licenses and 155 homebased business licenses. It is wonderful to witness the many self-employed business leaders in our community enjoying the fruits of their labor. There are not many retail store front
businesses within the city. But, along with several office complexes, our business commercial zone is filling up and expansion is needed. As a city, we work diligently to provide a great place to do business and enjoy success. We are fortunate to have many wonderful services that are provided here in Alpine. Some of those businesses and services include: Daylight Donuts, Alpine Quickstop, Alpine Fitness, Alpine Gold Exchange, Purple Mattress, dentistry, chiropractic care, physical therapy, a few veterinarians, hair salons, realtors, landscapers, builders, attorneys, dance studios, an auto repair shop, and several others. Many business owners find Alpine to be a great place to have their business office, and it seems that many businesses in Alpine have flourished regardless of the pandemic and other current issues. Of course, not all have gone unscathed, but fortunately some have been able to take advantage of the Covid relief programs to stay afloat and keep things moving along. Most have an optimistic view that things will improve and get better as mandates are lifted in the state and across the world.
Alpine businesses have tremendous hope that things will soon get back to normal. We are grateful to have the Lone Peak Business Alliance and American Fork Chamber of Commerce as an ally to help our community businesses and provide many of the resources they need to be successful. The city of Alpine and especially the Alpine businesses express our gratitude for the support each of our neighboring communities give to us. We wish you a prosperous, safe, and successful year. Don’t forget, you are always welcome in Alpine. Council Member Lon Lott

CEDAR HILLS MAYOR’S MESSAGE Cedar Hills is a little gem of a city, literally built into the hills at the foot of our beautiful Wasatch Range. We in Cedar Hills appreciate the access to American Fork Canyon, the many trails that traverse the mountain, the Murdock Canal trail and the many opportunities to interact with nature. With over six miles in the city trail system that connects our nine city parks, our residents can enjoy the outdoors from just about anywhere in the city. Harvey Park has been a huge success, with the pickleball courts in high demand and the playground in constant use. Come to our food truck rally at Harvey Park on Wednesday evenings, usually from April through October.
Our commercial zone (which I affectionately call “Downtown”) is growing and helping to shape the beautiful ambiance of our little community. The businesses that have come to Cedar Hills are thriving, and we recognize the boost that they are to our economy as well as to our quality of life. We recently approved the construction of our first mixed-use development, and I look forward to seeing how this concept, new to our city, will take off. We still have space available to develop businesses in Cedar Hills, so consider expanding yours here! One of the most common things that I hear from new residents is how they were drawn to Cedar Hills and felt
that it was the right place for them. I feel the same way! Having moved here with my husband and baby in 1992, we have planted deep roots – adding 5 more children and an ever-growing family. So many residents have lived here for decades, and other newer residents plan to stay for a long time – they are happy here and love the lifestyle that Cedar Hills affords. We are looking forward to our Family Festival in June (restrictions permitting) and reconnecting with the community after so much time apart. Come and enjoy the festival with us! Cedar Hills is a wonderful place to visit, live, and work, and I look forward to seeing where the future takes us! Mayor Denise Andersen

HIGHLAND MAYOR’S MESSAGE “The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul, a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”—James Allen, As a Man Thinketh, 1902. Already this year, Highland City Council has approved four commercial and residential developments: • Highland Market Place (north of Taco Time and west of Blue Lemon) the proposed site plan includes 8,500 sq ft of retail, 43,000 ft grocery, 2 restaurants, and a 65,000 sq. ft. office/ fitness building • Lone Peak Village (north of Burt Bros) a two story 14,882 sq. ft. office
building • Ten Seven Hundred (10700 N. Alpine Hwy between UCCU and Ace Hardware) 42 residential units plus 23,000 sq. ft. of office/retail • The Hollows (10250 N. 6531 W.) a 68 lot subdivision The city has set a tentative date of May 15th to open a connector road (Canal Blvd.) between Alpine Highway and North County Boulevard, south of Lone Peak High School. Phase 1 of Ridgeview, through which this road will run, is already under development. It will include 265 residential units - a mix of townhomes, carriage lots, and estate lots. The Boyer Company is looking for restaurants and businesses to be located in seven acres of commercial property at the intersection of Canal Boulevard and North County Boulevard. Highland is experiencing tremendous
residential and commercial growth in 2021. Businesses that address local needs will find a strong base of loyal customers that can sustain growth over the long haul. Highland started as a dream over 40 years ago and is now home to thousands of families and numerous successful businesses. Let’s keep dreaming that our future may be bright. Mayor Rod Mann

AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL This year presented a myriad of challenges for schools as we tried to navigate the complexities of providing education to students in person and online. We were thrown into new schedules, depending on COVID counts, and we worked with students who just went through a once in a lifetime crisis. Every step of the way we turned to each other for solutions. In many ways it has been a galvanizing experience for everyone at American Fork High School. I have been impressed with our senior class as they have endured numerous disappointments during this special year of their lives. They have missed out on some activities that are associated with the high school experience, and that breaks our hearts, but I am confident that they are prepared for the road ahead. For one, this class will be the most
digitally prepared group of students that have ever graduated from American Fork High School as they have navigated new ways of learning and connecting. Their transition to college and

the workplace won’t seem so daunting as many of those institutions require digital literacy. These students learned how to be adaptable as they changed schedules, got used to wearing masks, and figured out online assignments. This class will be able to make the best of tough situations. Through all the craziness of this year, they were still able to compete in all of the sports and festivals, raise money for families at Christmas, and put on amazing performances of music, art, and theater. They completed their schoolwork and most importantly showed up for each other. They have learned to appreciate the little joys of life. Right now our students are very thrilled to hold two dances this spring and to walk at graduation. I am sure they are even more excited to not have to wear masks anymore in public spaces. I believe that they will be able to cherish the little things in life more than ever before. Thank you seniors for the inspirational way you have handled this crazy year. I hope the universe gives you back all that you lost last year and doubles it. Proud to be a Caveman! Principal Peter Glahn American Fork High School

LONE PEAK HIGH SCHOOL At Lone Peak High School we begin meetings by reviewing our mission, vision, values and goals (mvvg). We focus on our mvvg to direct our focus on how we can improve as educators so we can better meet the academic needs of our students. Our Mission: Committing Minds to Inquiry, Hearts to Compassion and Lives to the Service of Mankind Our Vision: What kind of school do we want Lone Peak High School to become? •Growth Mindset to Improve •Collaborative Culture •Collective Inquiry with Data Driven Decisions •Community Centered •Safe Environment Our Values: What do we expect from our students and ourselves to achieve our mission and vision? “THE PEAK” T - Tenacious H - Honorable E - Empathetic P - Purposeful E - Exemplary A - Accountable K - Kind
Our Goal: Lone Peak High School will achieve a graduation rate of 96% or higher by the end of the 2020-21 school year by: •Building teacher capacity •Focusing on targeted student assessment and interventions •Providing supportive and advanced class offerings •Creating a nurturing a climate conducive to deeper learning As we begin 4th term, I can’t help but reflect on our Senior Class and all of the changes they experienced this year. While LPHS maintained our focus on our mvvg to keep supporting student academic goals, I’ve also reflected how much more our students have experienced and gained from this year. I was excited when Lone Peak and other area high schools were given the approval, with safety restrictions, to have fans at games, compete in sports,

hold choir performances and perform the school play as well as other activities. I’m also excited for our Seniors to have prom, attend Lagoon and have graduation in just a few weeks. As I reflect further on the mvvg of Lone Peak High School, our students have not just learned about THE PEAK, they have experienced it. I believe our Senior Class has learned how to be Tenacious, Honorable, Empathetic, Purposeful, Exemplary, Accountable and Kind as they learned to navigate this year. I’m so proud of them. I’m so excited for them. They can and will do anything they set their mind to with the strength they have gained by the experiences they have had. AMERICAN HERITAGE SCHOOL Small in number but powerful in “heart, might, mind, and strength.” Perhaps the greatest compliment American Heritage School’s 53 seniors can receive is this: They have sought truth and learning “by study and also by faith” in ways that have prepared them not only for their next missions in life, but also in ways that have demonstrated their devotion to the two great commandments: “Love God and love your neighbor.” Congratulations, AHS Patriots, on completing and defending your capstone Senior Theses! Congratulations on your admissions and scholarships to so many fine colleges and universities, from NYU to BYU. Congratulations for the way that you leaned into the pandemic: full school days, full school weeks, from beginning to end, even those of you who did it with us from
countries around the world! Congratulations on mission calls to lands near and far. Even more than these, we commend you for your faithful desires and your hard work, which have borne the precious fruit of character that will serve you so well in years to come: humility, faith, charity, courage, self-government, industry, and wisdom. In overcoming common and uncommon difficulties together, you formed life-long bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood. In the midst of a global pandemic, you found you could grow. In the midst of social unrest, you found not only your voice, but also your neighbor’s. In the midst of uncertainty, you found clarity, light, and
peace. We honor you, AHS Class of 2021! The spirited march of the Patriots will change the world wherever you are. Most importantly, you will change the world in your homes, as faithful and devoted husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers. You may not see the entire road ahead. None of us do. But your willing hearts and ready minds have made your foundation strong. You know “in whom you have trusted” and you can therefore “be of good cheer, for He will lead you along!” (2 Ne 4:19, D&C 78:18). Principal Grant Beckwith American Heritage School

POLARIS HIGH SCHOOL Polaris West High School opened last school year in the south end of the old Walmart building, located off the 5th East exit in American Fork. We are a sister school to the Polaris High School located in Orem. Although considered an alternative high school, graduates of both Polaris high schools receive an accredited High School Diploma. Similar to the traditional high schools in Alpine District, we offer in-person instruction with classrooms and teachers as well as busing and lunch. So, why are we considered an alternative high school? We specialize in credit recovery. Polaris focuses on both students that are credit deficient and others that would like to graduate early. Polaris provides a smaller setting where students can develop close relationships with teachers and receive instruction within a small group. For example, our
current student body count is approximately 150. Our typical classes average around 8-10 students. I am pleased to announce that thirty-seven students have graduated early from our school by mid-year! Once a student completes the required credits for graduation, parents are invited to an informal celebration and then again to the formal graduation in May. Our numbers fluctuate as we graduate students and enroll more students throughout the school year. Our graduates have been able to enroll in college, join the military, or seek gainful employment. Students must be referred to Polaris High School in Alpine District. However, enrollment at a Polaris high school is voluntary. We do not offer extra-curricular activities such as proms, sports teams, music programs, or clubs. That is why we want students to have the opportunity to attend a traditional high school and participate in all of those activities before being referred to Polaris. Once a student enrolls, they will complete their education with us. Polaris West houses the Titan Closet, which is a resource for local students to select clothing, hygiene items, and
a small variety of food items on an as needed basis. We offer gently used clothing including coats and shoes as well as brand new clothing items such as underwear. We are open daily during lunch and also by appointment when scheduled. Our front office secretaries are happy to accept donations during school hours. Alpine District recently announced that the two Polaris schools will be combining again in the American Fork location. As the current Polaris West principal, I will continue to be the principal of the combined Polaris High School. Along with my staff, we have enrolled both schools in The Golden Gate Movement, which is a non-profit program designed to instruct students in various attitudes and pro-social behaviors needed to function effectively in their personal interactions. FOUR FUN DESTINATIONS IN AMERICAN FORK CANYON TIMPANOGOS CAVE NATIONAL MONUMENT Although currently closed for tours due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Timpanogos Cave is normally open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from around Memorial Day through the end of the summer. The caves are only viewable on guided tours and are well known for their colorful formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and unique helictites and anthodites. The visitor center and cave tours will open as soon as safely possible following federal, state, and local health guidelines. However, both picnic areas, the trail leading up to the caves, and the Canyon Nature Trail are open for use. The hike to the cave is 3.1 miles round trip with 1,505 feet of elevation gain.
MT. TIMPANOGOS The peak of Mount Timpanogos, at 11,749 feet, is the second highest in the Wasatch Front (after Mount Nebo). There are two trailheads that lead to the peak, one beginning at Timpooneke Campground and the other at Aspen Grove. The Timpooneke route is just over 14 miles with 4,425 feet of elevation gain, while the Aspen Grove one is slightly longer at just over 15 miles with 5,383 feet of elevation gain. There are amazing views, a variety of terrains, and plenty of wildlife to enjoy during the climb to the top. The hike to the summit will take most of the day and is somewhat strenuous, so it is recommended that hikers bring plenty of water and a jacket as it is usually windy and chilly at the top.

CASCADE SPRINGS NATURE TRAIL
TIBBLE FORK RESERVOIR & SILVER LAKE
The short walk through Cascade Springs is made up of three loops totalling only half a mile, but its scenic beauty and improved trails make it enjoyable for families and hikers of all ages. These trails wrap around the natural springs with bridges, boardwalks, and paved pathways. Crystal clear waters make it easy to spot trout that inhabit these pools, and there is an abundance of beautiful plants and flowers as well. Signs with interesting facts that explain the geology and history of the springs are displayed along the pathways. To reach the Cascade Springs Nature trail from American Fork Canyon, take the road to Cascade Scenic Drive from the Alpine Scenic Loop.
The Tibble Fork recreation area was expanded and improved several years ago and offers fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, a sandy beach, and spectacular views. There are also campground picnic areas and several hiking and ATV trails nearby. Silver Lake is accessed by taking the road just past Tibble Fork Reservoir that goes to the Granite Flat Campground. Turn right at Silver Lake Road, but be advised that the dirt road from there to the trailhead at Silver Lake Flat is narrow and rough. Silver Lake Flat offers many of the same activities as Tibble Fork Reservoir, and from there it is a fairly easy 2.3 mile hike with 1,433 feet of elevation gain to Silver Lake, which is the highest rated fishing spot in American Fork Canyon. From Silver Lake it is approximately another half mile (5.9 miles round trip with 2,395 feet of elevation gain from the trailhead at Silver Flat Lake) to Silver Glance Lake, which features a waterfall. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on a leash.

5 TIPS FOR A BEAUTIFUL LAWN Contributed by Trevor Merrill - Lawn Doctor of American Fork - Lehi - Saratoga Springs (see the Lawn Doctor ad on page 61)
WATERING: Proper watering procedures help maintain lawn color, resilience, and proper root development. You should water the lawn regularly before it has a chance to wilt and brown. To ensure proper watering procedures, follow these general guidelines: •Be aware of early signs of wilt, including bluish-green grass caused by folded grass leaves and footprints that stay in the lawn instead of bouncing back up. •A lawn needs one inch of water per week for healthy growth under normal conditions. Additional water is required when high temperatures occur. •You may apply water any time of day, but morning watering is usually most efficient. Night watering is not recommended as it encourages disease and insect development.
MOWING: Proper mowing practices are critical to the appearance of your lawn. In fact, improper mowing causes more lawn problems than any other maintenance practice. Follow these general guidelines to improve the health and appearance of your lawn: •Make sure your blade is sharp. Grass cut with a dull blade appears gray shortly after mowing, and the tips turn brown within 48 hours. •Cut often enough to remove no more than one-third of the grass blade. This will help avoid scalping, which puts the grass under stress and reduces its vigor. •Mow at the correct height; about 3”. This will shade the soil, keeping temperatures lower for optimum growth. •Avoid mowing during midday when temperatures are above 90 degrees. •Leave clippings if you mow often enough. The grass clippings will recycle nutrients back into the soil and will not contribute to thatch build-up. CORE AERATION: Core Aeration will remove thousands of soil plugs from your lawn to open passageways for oxygen, nutrients, and moisture. Core Aeration can benefit your lawn in many ways: •Reduce thatch •Increase air-to-soil transfer
•Improve water absorption •Encourage stronger roots for thicker turf •Increase effectiveness of fertilizer •Increase effectiveness of weed & insect controls •Enhance drought stress tolerance FERTILIZER AND WEED CONTROL: Every lawn needs proper nourishment. Similar to people, a lawn needs to be fed properly to be healthy and to thrive. We suggest to our clients that they have a fertilization and weed plan that includes 6 treatments and includes: •Lawn fertilization •Pre-emergent weed control •Broadleaf weed and crabgrass control An appropriate fertilization and weed plan will help you make your grass maintain its lush texture and rich green color by making it healthier, eliminating dandelions or clovers, and preventing the appearance of crabgrass. CREATE A REGULAR ROUTINE FOR YARD MAINTENANCE: For stable growth, plants and greenery need a structured routine for watering, mowing, weeding, and pruning. Set a routine early in the year for when you will do each of these things and then stick to it.
