Mayor’s Message 2018 Lindon Days Celebration is here! A hearty welcome to our 2018 Lindon Days celebration. This year, the theme of Lindon Days is INSPIRE. As Lindon City Mayor, I am inspired by the diligent City Council members, staff and volunteers we have in this great city. It is my responsibility as Mayor to oversee the direction that our community takes in the future. This could seem like a lofty task for one person to handle, but thankfully I am not alone in this challenge. I am in awe of the constant inspiration I receive from the individuals that live in this community. The service, commitment, and openness that Lindon city has is unparalleled. I have the opportunity to work alongside our esteemed Council Members as well as many individuals who are employed at the City who

are both personally and professionally invested in Lindon’s bright future. We are truly blessed to have such great leadership in our City. The Lindon Days celebration week starts off Monday evening, August 6, 2018 with our famous car show, one of the largest free car shows in the State of Utah. Tuesday is the traditional Lindon Police Park Party. Come take your chance to dunk a Police Officer in the dunk tank. Also, we are having a free ice cream social, outdoor games and the movie Coco on the outdoor screen. Don’t forget Wednesday evening is Huck Finn fishing at Creekside Park as well as a new Grandparents/Grandkids night with free ice cream and the sounds from the band Mixed Nuts. Thursday is our free swim day with

all of the activities at the pool including the dime dive, belly flop contest, Kenducky derby and a teen dance that evening. Thursday evening is also our official flag retirement ceremony and Mini Rodeo. Friday in the morning is the youth video game tournament and in the evening, the always popular Family Arena Events. This year during the Family Arena Events, in addition to the children’s candy scramble, we will be having an adult candy and money scramble. This will be great to participate in as well as watch. Saturday is the 5k run, Mayor’s breakfast, Grand Parade, free kids fair, concert and amazing fireworks show. There are events all week long so I encourage you to look at the schedule and participate with us. It is my hope as Mayor that we can continue to inspire each other to be better citizens, neighbors and friends. As stewards of this great city, we will continue to work hard to provide a great environment to raise children and make lifelong relationships. Mayor Jeff Acerson

Little Miss Lindon QUEEN Rylee Swalberg

Rylee Swalberg is 13 years old, attends Oak Canyon Junior High School and is the daughter of Brett and Jenn Swalberg. She loves competitive cheerleading, singing, baking, spending time with family and friends and being out in nature. She also enjoys hanging out with her two dogs. For Rylee’s service project during the pageant, she created a charity event for girls with special needs. She entitled her project “Always a Princess” to remind the girls of their true worth. The girls got their hair, nails and makeup done along with a custom-made shirt. She is beyond excited to represent Lindon City as Little Miss Lindon 2018. She looks forward to all that the year will bring and the memories she will make.

ATTENDANTS Lydia Knapp

Lydia Knapp is the daughter of Chris and Lisa Knapp. She attends Oak Canyon Junior High School. Her service project for Little Miss Lindon was “Puppy Therapy.” She raised money, rented some adorable puppies and took them to a retirement center for the residents to hold and love. She did some research on the therapeutic benefits animals have on people and found that pets can actually help with anxiety and depression and help people feel more happy! Lydia has a tender spot for animals. She would really like to be a veterinarian when she grows up. She even had the opportunity to job shadow a veterinarian this year. While watching a dog surgery, to her great embarrassment, she fainted! Surprisingly, this didn’t seem to discourage her dream of becoming

a vet. Lydia enjoys playing the piano and ukulele. She absolutely loves to compose songs of her own. She also likes to play sports, especially soccer and basketball. She enjoys playing on a competitive soccer team. She is thrilled to represent Lindon and serve her community this year.

Annika Pitcher

Annika Pitcher is the youngest child of Miles and Kate Pitcher. She will be attending the seventh grade at Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy in Lindon. Annika is a diligent student and excels in creative writing. She also enjoys dancing, singing, playing lacrosse and swimming for the Lindon Storm swim team in the summer. Annika began playing the piano at a young age and has been recognized as an outstanding performer on many occasions. She loves performing for family and friends, particularly her grandparents and great-grandparents. For this reason, she chose to organize an evening of music for the elderly for her service project. She, along with other young musicians, performed for the residents of Spring Gardens Senior Living in Lindon. Annika is grateful for the opportunity to share her time and talents with the community through the Little Miss Lindon program.

Arynne Cole

Arynne Cole is the 12-year-old daughter of Greg and Stephanie Cole. Arynne has lived in Lindon her entire life and will be attending Oak Canyon Junior High School this upcoming year. She has been part of Rocky Mountain Elementary School’s Dream Team and Concert Choir. She loves playing the piano and soccer and is an avid reader. Arynne loves being outdoors and hiking all over Utah with her family. Arynne has been part of the BYU Youth Ballroom Dancesport Preteen team and has competed and won four

Little Miss Lindon national titles. This past year, she and her individual partner competed and won the 2018 National Preteen American Style Ballroom title. Arynne is very excited for this upcoming year and being part of Little Miss Lindon and helping the community.

Jensyn Ann Hamilton

Jensyn Ann Hamilton is very happy to be part of the Little Miss Lindon Royalty this year. She is the daughter of Les and Brooke Hamilton. She is the youngest of four children. Jensyn loves serving people around her. She loves to babysit children and take cookies to the elderly in her neighborhood. Her interests include dancing, taking care of her pet rabbit and taking care of her new horse, Twister. She is learning to ride English style and is enjoying the challenge. Jensyn is a great fly fisherman. She enjoys going with her dad any chance they can. She is a great student. Her favorite subject in school is writing. She always looking for ways to uplift and say kind words to her fellow students. She was voted by her teachers to be on the Hope Squad. She really enjoyed learning how to help others deal with challenges in life.

Members of the Little Miss Lindon Royalty are, from left: Attendants Jensyn Hamilton and Lydia Knapp, Queen Rylee Swalberg, and Attendants Annika Pitcher and Arynne Cole.

Grand Marshals Connie & Robert Lyle Lamoreaux Lindon residents Connie and Robert Lyle Lamoreaux have been chosen as the Grand Marshals of the 2018 Lindon Days Grand Parade on Saturday, Aug. 11. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and travel along Lindon’s Center Street between 900 East and Main Street. The Lamoreauxs are long-time Lindon residents, having built a home in the city in 1976. They still reside in the same home. Lyle was born in Cedar City and raised in a California town near the Mexican border named El Centro. He graduated from high school there in 1965 and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in what was then called the South German Mission. He had always wanted to live in Utah, so upon his return from his mission he moved to Provo and began attending Brigham Young University. He eventually earned his bachelor’s degree with a double major in German and zoology and a minor in chemistry. Connie grew up in Minnesota, graduating from high school in 1968. She then came to Utah to attend BYU and eventually earned a bachelor’s degree in child development. Connie and Lyle met while they were students at BYU, married in 1970 and had a child before they both

12 • Lindon Days

graduated from the university in 1972. Lyle had held a lot of part-time jobs while attending college, including doing concrete for a local company, and shortly after his college graduation he started his own concrete business called Lamoreaux Concrete. He ran it on his own until his two brothers Craig and Dave joined him in 1987. At that point, the business was renamed Tri-L Construction. Lyle and Connie moved to Orem after college with the intent of living there for some time. One day, however, they were driving through Lindon and came across a property with a “For Sale” sign on it. Connie commented that she’d love to live on that property, and Lyle told her that if they built there, he was never leaving. They purchased the property and built their house there, and that is how Lindon became their home. Lyle ran his concrete business from his home at first but eventually moved his equipment to another location in Lindon. Tri-L Construction pours footings and foundations for all types of construction projects. Lyle’s work has taken him to jobs throughout the Intermountain West, including doing a lot of work in Park City. Today, most of the business’s jobs

are within Utah County. Over the years, Tri-L Construction has done a variety of projects for Lindon City on a donated basis. The couple had their six children - three boys and three girls - in eight years, and Connie was a stay-at-home mom, although she took a lot of phone calls for her husband’s company in its early years. She served in the PTA while her children were in school and occasionally held various part-time jobs. This fall, she will begin her fourth year of volunteering with the reading program at Lindon Elementary School. Both Lyle and Connie currently serve on the board of the Lindon Historical Preservation Commission, with Lyle serving as board chairman. Connie joined the commission about eight years ago, with her husband joining soon after. They are both enthusiastic about the commission’s goal of preserving the history and heritage of Lindon. As part of the commission, the Lamoreauxs have been involved in projects such as the Pick It Up program, which encourages people to pick up the garbage they see while they are out and about in the community, making Lindon a more attractive place to live. They are also working to

obtain historical photos from older city residents and get them scanned in so digital copies can be made available to both the historical commission and the families. Lyle said the commission has received approval to make this work available as an Eagle Scout project. “We are really common people here in Lindon,” Lyle said. “We’re hard workers and we love the city.” The Lamoreaux’s children are: Amy, Robert, Sarah (deceased), Nicholas, Timothy (deceased) and Laura. They have 16 grandchildren.

Concert & Fireworks in the Park Introducing the Salamanders! Start with two superstar caliber vocalists with true genre-jumping ability. This married couple wastes no time on watered down, “that will do,” coverversion vocals. They bring an authentically charged, intensely energetic performance with the rare and unique vocal ability to smoothly transition from one song and style to the next, making each one hit harder than the last. They have a natural feel and engaging stage presence; nothing is forced. They are a highly talented team that will settle for nothing less than perfection and that have an obvious natural chemistry on stage, not to mention the added benefit of being very easy on the eyes. They are unique and without competition or duplication. They are the industry’s hottest couple. Now add a rhythm section made up of world-class studio musicians boasting resumes that would rival any party band on the planet. They have worked with major music labels, motion picture companies and television studios and have toured with household names. They have played all over the nation for some of the world’s largest corporations and have backed artists such as Collin Raye and Kenny Loggins. As the most talented and decorated group of guys the industry has to offer, they are literally second to none. Together, The Salamanders make up a dream team of sorts. Unique talent, musicianship, professionalism and class have quickly make them one of the nation’s most sought-after acts. They have the ability to boldly rock any genre with an inyour-face intensity and energy that will not stop. They provide an experience both captivating and extraordinary. With the unmatched combined look, sound and energy of the front line and the truly exceptional quality of the music offered by the rhythm section, there is none other that compares. They are the standard for excellence in the event band industry.
