LINDON MAYOR’s message Welcome to Lindon Days 2021! Lindon City is a vibrant and thriving community where you will find good people, great businesses, and a wonderful sense of community. We have a great opportunity to celebrate this August with our Lindon Days celebration. Although we still need to be cautious and careful when we gather together, I am very optimistic about our future going forward. Our community is a wonderful place to live and work. Our city thrives on being good neighbors and friends. The heartbeat of our vibrant and thriving community is the people. We have great schools with outstanding teachers, great businesses which help fuel our economy, as well as miles of trails, parks with playgrounds, good roads, and safe neighborhoods. Every year we have an opportunity to celebrate our community with our Lindon Days celebration. Lindon City is small in size compared to our neighboring cities in Utah County yet we are large in community, civic pride, and commitment to residents as evidenced by our weeklong Lindon Days celebration. Lindon Days will begin Saturday, July 31 this year as we bring back an old-time favorite, the Horse Trail Ride. The ride will take place starting at the South Fork Transfer Station in Provo Canyon, at 9:00 a.m. Our city celebration will then continue on Monday, August 2 with our Car Show. The week is full of fun. We will conclude Lindon Days with a concert and fireworks show Saturday, August 7 at Pheasant Brook Park. Thanks to the Lindon Days staff and volunteers who have worked hard to bring you another great celebration filled with activities for everyone. I encourage you all to check the list of events happening during Lindon Days this year and take time to attend those that appeal most to you and your families. Check the schedule in this booklet and also at www.lindonrecreation.org. There is something every evening all week long so come out and participate with us. Whether you’re looking for a place to visit, live, or build a business, know that you are welcome in Lindon! Mayor Jeff Acerson

Lindon, Our Home and Our Family LTC (USA-Ret) Joseph Lorenzo (Ren) and Linda Kathleen (Kathy) Allred moved to Lindon in 1992. Ren was completing his Army career as the Professor of Military Science at the University of Utah. They chose Lindon because they wanted to live in a small community. “A little bit of country!” With 8 children, and their oldest twin daughters about to attend BYU, it was the best choice for them! In 1993, Ren was appointed as the Professor of Military Science at BYU and completed his military career. After his retirement, Ren continued to work as a consultant to the US State and Defense Departments, as well as a special advisor to international military and political leaders in areas such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, the Philippines, Africa, Ukraine and Turkey. For the last five years he led a team of consultants who taught at the US Air

Force Expeditionary Center in New Jersey. As a military family, they moved around the world and across the nation many times, but always seemed destined to find their home in Lindon. Kathy was raised in Glendale, California and came to Utah to attend BYU. Ren was raised in Salt Lake City, and through Utah’s Army ROTC program, chose a career of service. They met in Australia where they each served LDS missions. After graduating from BYU, Kathy taught elementary school for a year and then began her adventures as a mother and military spouse. She actively supported Ren’s many assignments, at home and abroad, because of her love of family and country. She feels that when a spouse serves, the wife and family also serves! She created the first ROTC “future Army wives” program at BYU’s Army ROTC. This program eventually became
an important part of Army ROTC preparation throughout the nation. Active in Lindon’s educational and service activities, Kathy was a founding member and now serves as president of the Lindon Character Connection program which has sponsored and promoted character development in Lindon’s schools for more than 25 years. She has also volunteered for over 40 years in local, regional, state and national PTA programs. Ren and Kathy’s greatest treasure is their children, in-laws and grandchildren who fill their lives with love and joy. The Allreds have four daughters; Julie, Jenni, Jana and Jenice and four sons; Joseph, Jared, Jonathan and Jeffrey. Each of their children and spouses, with 26 grandchildren, has lived in Lindon and still live close by. For the Allred Family, Lindon was the best place in the world to raise their family, develop eternal friendships and enjoy the special experience of living in a “small” community that embraces and supports each other! They feel that Lindon is a

city with people of character and values. Ren and Kathy are honored to be recognized during Lindon Days as the Grand Marshals and are grateful and blessed that Lindon is their home and their many wonderful Lindon friends are “family”.

Little Miss Lindon
Left to Right in Picture: Ellary Horne, Laikin Porter, Tessa Lillywhite (Queen), Emi Christensen, Carlie Nielson
Tessa Lillywhite is 13 years old and will be an 8th grader at Oak Canyon Junior High this Fall. She is Dan & Kate Lillywhite’s favorite daughter and the best sister to Ty, Milo, and Beckett. Her favorite class in school was Peer Tutor where she loved meeting lots of new friends. Tessa sponsored a Talent Show at the Lindon Care & Training Center for her service project. She enjoyed choreographing and teaching the individuals a ribbon dance to perform for their peers and families. She came away from her project full of joy and love for these awesome residents of Lindon City! You can find Tessa camping, dancing, working with young children, baking, running, or hiking. Tessa is really looking forward to all of the events at Lindon Days, but Swim Day is her favorite! Serving as Little Miss Lindon has been an amazing and rewarding experience and she feels very grateful to do so. She is excited to make more friends and celebrate with the community! She is so grateful for the wonderful opportunities that the Little Miss Lindon Organization has provided for her. Emi Christensen is the daughter of Dave and Jen Christensen. She is twelve and is going into 7th grade at Liahona Preparatory Academy. She is an outgoing, sassy, free spirit who loves art, singing, fashion, and baking yummy treats. A few years ago, while visiting Temple Square, Emi had a tender experience with donating to the homeless. Since then, she has taken 12 • LINDON DAYS 2021
any chance given to help the homeless in our community. She loves to serve anywhere she can. Emi is excited for the opportunity that covid provided for her to serve 2 years with Little Miss Lindon. Ellary Horne is the daughter of two proud parents, Greg and Jodi Horne. She attends school at Oak Canyon Jr. High and will be starting 9th grade this fall. Ellary will be joining the yearbook class this year at school. Being involved and trying new things is a challenge Ellary enjoys! Dancing is one of the ways Ellary spends her free time. She also enjoys being with friends and family, going on vacation, planning celebrations, being outside and helping others. Covid brought the unique opportunity for Ellary to serve on the Little Miss Lindon Royalty for two years. She appreciates the extended time she has had to serve and be involved in the community. Building friendships with other royalty members and working with the fabulous Little Miss Lindon leaders has been one of the most invaluable parts of her opportunity. Ellary is looking forward to celebrating with Lindon City again this year! Carlie Nielson is the daughter of Carl and Laurie Nielson who couldn’t be prouder of their little girl who has learned so much from the Little Miss Lindon Program! Carlie is grateful for the opportunity to be one of the Little Miss Lindon Attendants this
year. She has really enjoyed being involved in various service opportunities, building the float and being looked up to as a “Princess” in all of the Parades! Carlie has a great personality and can talk to and make friends with anyone she comes across. She is always the first one to say, “Hey My Name is Carlie, what is your name” and quickly a friendship is formed. She is very well-rounded and can go from being a rough and tough Goalie with her soccer team, to a talented rider in the Arena with her horse, to dressing up in a fancy dress with the kindness of a princess!! She takes everything in stride and motivates herself to reach high goals! Carlie will be going into the 8th Grade at Oak Canyon Jr. High
and is looking forward to the rest of the year as an ambassador for Lindon City! Laikin Porter is the only daughter of Nathan & Tanya Porter. She adores being the only girl in her family as well as the youngest of her 4 siblings. Laikin currently attends Oak Canyon middle school and will be going into 9th grade in the fall. Laikin enjoys horseback riding, painting, arts & crafts, ballroom dancing and pretty much adores any animal. She is beyond grateful and excited to be able to serve the City of Lindon in the Royalty an additional year due to Covid in 2020. Laikin absolutely loves living in Lindon!
Lindon Rodeo Royalty Queen: Cecelia Wood is the 17-year-old daughter of Jay and Patsy Wood. She is a junior at Pleasant Grove High School. In her free time, she loves to go on rides with her horse Angel, and she can’t wait to represent Lindon Days this summer! 1st Attendant: Olivia Niswander is the daughter of Justin and Brittny Niswander. She has lived in Lindon all 14 years of her life and is an honor roll student at Oak Canyon Jr. High. Riding horses, teaching horse riding lessons, playing softball, going boating, and skiing are some of her favorite things. She is outgoing, ambitious, and fun loving. Olivia says that if she could be anywhere, it would be somewhere with her horse. She is honored and excited to be Lindon Days Rodeo Royalty First Attendant. 2nd Attendant: Aubrie Christensen is in 8th grade at Oak Canyon Jr. High where she has enjoyed being on the Jr. High tennis team for the last few years. Aubrie has lived in Lindon most of her life, and loves the “Little bit of country” lifestyle. Horses have always been a part of Aubrie’s life. If she doesn’t have one to ride, she is drawing or painting pictures of them, and has won several art contests. Aubrie has wanted to be a Rodeo Queen for years! She is excited for the opportunity to improve on her riding skills, gain new friendships, and represent her beautiful community of Lindon! LINDON DAYS 2021 • 13

They keep the dance floor packed and even the old timers satisfied. Whether you’re a rhinestone cowboy or a bonafide city slicker, Drive is bound to entertain.

“Central Bank believes in young entrepreneurs. I’m 20-years old and Central Bank believed in me, encouraged me, and helped me the entire way. I love Central Bank—I couldn’t have done this without them!”
