SUMMER EVENTS KICK-OFF
WHAT’S HAPPENING Summer has almost arrived, and with it comes a sense of excitement and positivity. Edmonton is known for its world-class summer events, and although things may not be completely back to normal, there are some fantastic activities to look forward to this month and beyond. Whyte Avenue Art Walk is back every weekend from June 11-August 1 at the former Army & Navy building in Old Strathcona. Running for over 25 years, the event provides visitors with the opportunity to buy unique pieces directly from artists. There’s also the UofA Botanic Garden, which has reopened for visitors and brought back their Twilight Picnic Experience! Guests can book an evening to stroll through the beautiful grounds and enjoy a fabulous gourmet picnic box filled with local and Canadian eats. Enjoy the summer season in our city and be sure to stay updated on public health and safety guidelines at alberta.ca/covid-19
Did someone say Doughnut Day?
This sweet treat is so loved, it has two national days in the year – and the first Friday in June is one of them! We think that calls for a delightful doughnut experience at one (or all!) of these local spots.
1
Doughnut Party
You know it’s a party when these doughnuts are included! Find elevated classics and exciting new flavours rotating on the menu monthly here (Cookie Beer was a personal favourite). With two locations, and delivery options, you can get this sweet fix whenever your heart desires.
2
Ohana Donuterie
Indulge in fresh Hawaiian style doughnuts that will have you dreaming of an island escape. A variety of custard and cream filled delights are the highlight here, but you can grab a classic and even cronuts! Find them online or stop by their shop on 80 Ave, just off Gateway Blvd.
3
Destination Doughnuts
Gourmet doughnuts featuring locally sourced ingredients? Yes, please! This family-run shop offers up to 20 doughnut varieties daily, which include delicious flavour combinations and unexpected toppings – like potato chips. Order them online or pick-up at their shop on 124 street.
4
Hello Mochi
Located in the Bountiful Farmers’ Market, these mochi doughnuts offer a delectably chewy and gluten free option to the scene. Expect speciality flavours, like ube and candy bar edits, but there’s also some classics that tend to make an appearance in the line-up (Boston Cream anyone?).
DID YOU KNOW?
Picnics just got a little more fun! Responsible alcohol consumption is now permitted at 47 picnic sites across seven parks in Edmonton’s river valley! This pilot project will run until October 11, 2021. Details at edmonton.ca
