How is your elevator EtiquEttE?

You need to take the elevator in your apartment building every day, and there are some huge pet peeves that come along for the ride. Here’s an elevator etiquette refresher. 1. Exit thEn EntEr. Let passengers off before boarding the elevator. 2. whEn to takE thE stairs.

One flight up or two flights down – use the stairs when

able. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but it helps keep the flow on a busy elevator. 3. hold thE door! Your neighbours will remember you watching the doors close on them – and not in a good way. Hold the door for others who are running to catch the elevator. 4. kids. If they’re old enough, let them push the button, but don’t let your children play with the panel or light up all the floors like a Christmas tree. That’s no way to impress the neighbours or make friends.

5. BE nEighBourly. Generally, the people on the elevator are your neighbours. There’s no need for awkward silence – but there’s also no need for awkward questions. Don’t confuse friendliness with nosiness. Now, enjoy the ride!
