efficient. sustainable. cost-effective.
Cold-formed steel framing is lightweight, extremely strong, noncombustible and easy to install. It doesn’t shrink or absorb moisture and resists warping, termites and fire. The uniformity of cold-formed steel members reduces on-site waste and is 100% recyclable at the end of its lifespan. Additionally, its lighter weight makes it easy to ship, handle and assemble.
Panelization is an ideal solution for the owner, developer, or contractor involved in a mid-rise construction project.
Prefabrication of wall panels shortens the construction schedule and increases quality control and cost savings.
providing value from design through construction.
Our experience includes the full design and detailing of the cold-formed steel system, design calculations and shop drawing production for cold-formed steel suppliers. We use BIM to develop models of cold-formed steel systems and run clash detection with other building trades.
Our knowledge of loadbearing and non-loadbearing cold-formed steel systems comes from our experience as both the engineer-of-record and as specialty designers. Our relationships with design teams and contractors give us an understanding of the system from both sides, eliminating coordination issues by handling a project from design to fabrication.
| project: a four-story mixed-use building comprised of a one-story steel podium with three stories of load bearing cold-formed steel above
| role: engineer-of-record for composite steel podium and cold-formed steel design
| added value: cold-formed steel walls and joists were panelized for construction - saving time and cost
| project: a 200,000 square foot skilled-nursing home for veterans constructed from cold-formed steel trusses over load bearing cold-formed steel walls, structural steel and glue laminated beams
| role: engineer-of-record | added value: cold-formed steel walls were used in the patient rooms to minimize the use of structural steel which lowered the cost
| project: an 18,000 square foot expansion to a church | role: engineer-of-record and specialty engineer
| added value: with expertise as both the EOR and specialty engineer, we have the knowledge to offer a design solution without the coordination necessary between two different companies
| project: mezzanine addition to university atheltic center’s strength training room
| role: engineer-of-record
| added value: proposed cold-formed steel posts and beams to support one end of the mezzanine avoiding the cost of installing additional structural steel
| project: a 203,000 square foot mixed-use development featuring a single-story concrete podium with seven levels of cold-formed steel above | role: engineer-of-record | added value: worked closely with the cold-formed steel supplier and installer to optimize design of the cold-formed steel joists and panelized walls to better distribute vertical loads
