About Wallace State
STAN NAREWSKI, Head Coach (stan.narewski@wallacestate.edu, 256.352.7880) Wallace State cross country coach Stan Narewski has more than 30 years of coaching experience, leading both the men’s and women’s programs to multiple conference championships. Narewski, who’s in his second stint at Wallace State, has led the men’s to eight conference championships and the women to five, including sweeping the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) meet in 2020. He also led the Lady Lions to a program-best 6th-place finish at the NJCAA Division II national meet in 2020 and the men were 8th. During Narewski’s first stint with the Lions, he led the men’s track and field team to a NJCAA national title - one of nine national championships for the college.
Coach Narewski was inducted into the NJCAA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2008, into the University of West Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, and into the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. He has been named ACCC and Region 22 Coach of the Year Award for Cross Country and Track and Field 30 times. He is a 3-time NJCAA Coach of the Year, including being named NCAA Division I National Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1984. In addition to his Wallace State career, Narewski has coached at Auburn, Kansas, Furman, Murray State, Clemson and Florida.
TONY CRIDER, Assistant Coach (tony.crider@wallacestate.edu, 205.275.1200) Assistant coach Tony Crider completed his third season as Wallace State’s assistant coach in 2020. In addition to his time at Wallace State, Crider has more than 20 years of experience coaching multiple sports at the high school level, with more than 10 years coaching cross country and track and field at Cold Springs High School. There, he was part of four cross country and track and field state championships. He has been a business owner for more than 30 years. Well known in the local running community, Crider’s mission is trying his best to help in the development of the younger generation’s confidence, dreams, and athletic goals.
WSCC Cross Country Program Highlights: • 1 NJCAA National Championship in Men’s Track & Field (1997) • 8 Men’s ACCC Region 22 Cross Country Championships and multiple individual ACCC Runner of the Year titles. 8th-place finish at 2020 nationals. • 5 Women’s ACCC Region 22 Cross Country Championships and a program-best 6th-place finish at 2020 NJCAA Division II National meet • Numerous NJCAA Academic Team and individual All-Academic honors
