FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to summer semester at Wallace State, where we are in the midst of celebrating our Year of the Student! Wallace State is committed to ensuring that our students are the best prepared students in the nation, ready to achieve the success they deserve and desire. Our reputation for student success has made Wallace State a leader in the Alabama Community College System and in the nation. A recent report in “Community College Week” ranked Wallace State 10th in the nation among two-year institutions in the “Top 50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences, and 22nd on the list when four year colleges and universities are added to the associate degree producers. We not only produce more graduates than any college in the Alabama Community College System but our student outcomes and graduation rates exceed state and national averages. And, according to a report by ACT, we were chosen by students across the state as their first choice among community colleges again this year. Many events and activities are available on campus this summer for students of all ages. Our new Advanced Visualization Center, which opened last year, is one of the highlights of 2011 as students begin to take advantage of learning in virtual reality, using 3-D and 4-D simulationbased learning platforms. We are also providing training for the growing number of green collar jobs through our new green construction program. The short-term training classes offered through this program are free of charge for those who qualify. Whether you are a returning Wallace State student or enrolling for the first time, we are delighted that you are spending your summer with us and eager to serve you. We will be highlighting students and celebrating their successes all year. If you have a story you’d like to share, please email it to communications@wallacestate.edu. All the best,

Vicki P. Hawsey President
