MEET THE COACHING STAFF
Women’s Golf Coach J.J. Adams
J.J. Adams is in his fourth full season as the Wallace State women’s head golf coach. Adams, the 2021 and 2019 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Coach of the Year, guided the Lions to their fourth consecutive conference tournament title in 2021 and an 11th-place finish at the national tournament. Under Adams, Wallace State won all 2021 spring tournaments prior to nationals. At the ACCC Tournament, the Lady Lions won the event by 42 strokes.
Adams, who led Wallace State to its best national finish (10th) in 2019, was an assistant coach for Wallace State’s men’s and women’s teams for one season, prior to inheriting the women’s program. Adams previously owned Pro Golf of Cullman for nearly 20 years, and is himself a Wallace State golf alum, having played for the Lions and NJCAA Hall of Fame coach Dan York from 1988-1990. Adams finished his collegiate career, lettering at UNA.
Men’s Golf Coach Sylas Elliott
Sylas Elliott embarks on his third season as Wallace State’s men’s golf head coach. After his first spring season as coach was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Elliott directed Wallace State to its 25th NJCAA Division I National Championship appearance in 2021, in which the Lions finished 13th nationally. The team qualified for nationals after securing a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA District Tournament.
Elliott, who was interim coach during the 2018-2019 season and learned and played under the late Dan York, has already produced a pair of NJCAA Division I All-Americans (Connor Bruce and Carter Goodwin) at Wallace State and led the program to a pair of national tournaments.
A former Lion, Elliott earned 1st-team NJCAA PING
All-American honors as a sophomore at WSCC and was a 2016 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year semifinalist --- one of only 30 players to earn the distinction. He was a two-time Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region 22 Tournament individual low medalist and a two-time champion of the Wallace State Fall Invitational. He went on to play at South Alabama, graduating with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.
