Meet The Coaching Staff

Head Coach Carson Owens

Carson Owens enters his 1st season as the Wallace State Softball Head Coach. While this is his first season as Head Coach, Owens’ is no stranger to the Wallace State softball program, as he served on the support staff from 2017-2019 and returned as an Assistant Coach in 2022. During Owens tenure at Wallace State, the Lions have won 3 Alabama Community College Championships, 2 top 5 finishes at the NJCAA National Tournament, and coached 3 All-Americans. Working primarily with the pitching staff in 2022, Owens’ staff led the NJCAA in ERA, Strikeouts, Runs Allowed, Walks, and Opponent Batting Average. They also led the ACCC in all categories.

Owens, 23, was part of the NFCA South and National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022, while helping lead the Lions to an overall record of 56-4. Prior to coming back to Wallace State, Owens started his coaching journey at Southern Utah University in 2021. Upon graduating Wallace State in 2019, Owens moved on to the University of Alabama where he worked under Hall of Fame coach Patrick Murphy. During Owens time at Alabama, the Crimson Tide won the SEC Regular Season and Tournament Championship, an NCAA Regional Championship, an NCAA Super Regional Championship, and finished 3rd in the 2021 WCWS.

Assistant Coach Lauren Stewart

Lauren Stewart enters her 1st season as the Lion’s Assistant Coach. Prior to joining the Wallace State Softball program, Stewart served as the head coach at (6A) Spanish Fort High School. Her high school coaching career consisted of a 119-45-2 record along with two 6A AHSAA state tournament appearances (2019, 2021). Stewart was named Coastal Coach of the Year in 2019. Before her coaching career began, Lauren competed collegiately at Southern Union State Community College, taking home the 2014 ACCC Championship and finishing 4th in the NJCAA D1 National Tournament (St. George, UT). After her junior college tenure, Stewart competed at DII Spring Hill College (Mobile, AL) where she was a part of two undefeated SIAC seasons (2015-2016). After playing collegiately, Stewart was professionally drafted as the 68th overall pick in the American Softball Association’s inaugural season and won the organizations first championship with team OutKast (2018).

Lauren is native to Clanton, AL and graduated from Chilton County High School in 2012.

Assistant Coach Jada Terry

Jada Terry enters her 1st season as the Lion’s Assistant Coach. Prior to joining the Wallace State Softball program, Terry competed as a Jacksonville State University Gamecock from 2018-2021. As a player, Terry was part of two Ohio Valley Conference championships, making one NCAA Regional appearance.

In 2021, Terry led the Gamecocks in every offensive statistic including Batting Average, Homeruns, On Base Percentage, and hits earning her 1st Team All OVC accolades. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2022. The Trinity, AL native was a 4 time Regional Tournament participant for West Morgan High School on the way to earning All-State honors.
