Giving Back on Founders Day
Giving Back on Founders Day
In celebration of Founders’ Day, the Wall Street Alphas distributed 106 care packages consisting of sleeping bags, hygiene products, and non-perishable goods to the homeless around Penn Station. Special thanks goes to Bros. Reginald Osborne, Lyndell Pittman, and Eric Thomas for leading the assembly and distribution of the care packages to those in need. Brothers concluded the event with a repass building the bonds of brotherhood. We are grateful for their efforts.

Brother Dinkins was born on July 10, 1927, in Trenton, NJ. He is best known for being the former mayor of America’s largest city of New York. Brother Dinkins was a proud Howard University graduate and an initiate of Beta chapter in 1947. He graduated cum laude with a degree in mathematics in 1950 and introduced Brother Andrew Young, former Mayor of Atlanta to the chapter. Brother Dinkins later went on to graduate from Brooklyn Law School.
In 1989, Brother Dinkins was elected as the first African American mayor of New York City. “Brother Dinkins’ tenacious dedication to public service and his resilient leadership served as a role model for countless people throughout the nation. His 72 years of faithful resolve to the guiding precepts of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. shall continue to influence our fraternity for generations,” said Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. General President Dr. Everett B. Ward.
This year, the United States lost a national leader and a decorated veteran who loved to serve his city and his country. Brother David Dinkins will be remembered as a trailblazing leader who always endeavored to epitomize the highest standards of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Brother Larry Bannister (Psi, 1968) is a retired educator who taught in the Philadelphia, PA school system for 30 years.
He was initiated into Psi Chapter on April 18, 1968. Brother Bannister's brotherhood is widely known. Belonging and active with 4 New York City Chapters (Alpha Phi Alpha - Kappa Xi Lambda, Alpha Phi Alpha - Zeta Zeta Lambda, Alpha Phi Alpha - Alpha Gamma Lambda, and Alpha Phi Alpha - Gamma Iota Lambda), Brother Bannister has mentored hundreds of Brothers and has upheld the aims of the Fraternity for over 50 years. He constantly encourages younger members to get active, to stay involved, and to work on issues that benefit our larger society.
The Wall Street Alphas grieve the loss of our dear Brother Lawrence Bannister. Initiated in Psi Chapter in the spring of 1968, Brother Bannister has been a source of wisdom to all who have entered his presence. His dedication to the chapter and fraternity at large was unwavering; for he was indeed a brother's brother. We cherish his memory and join hands with his loved ones in mourning.
