While some people find it intimidating to design a nursery that could be suitable for a boy or girl, it should actually be a joyful experience. You aren't constrained to stereotypical ideas such as ballerinas and pale fuchsia for girls or tan cowboy themes for boys. Drop the crown and fire truck and come up with something truly unique for your baby neutral nursery. Rather than thinking of color schemes, start thinking of the ambience you want to radiate from the baby's room. Perhaps you prefer something quiet and peaceful. Or maybe lively and bright are more to your liking? Keep these feelings in mind as you move through the following steps. #1: Decide on Furniture Options Cribs aren't all one form these days. You can buy playful cribs with your infant's name written or painted on them, modern cribs with wide boards, or more traditional looking cribs. Prepare the room by picking furniture that suits the type of room you want to create. This will start to occupy the space and will make it easier to improve it as you go along. If you have a smaller room to build on, then consider going with a bassinet or baby Moses basket with supports instead of a full-sized crib. This will give some extra space. Of course, you can always add a crib later on. #2: Decide on One Strong Color Once you have your furniture selected, start thinking about one main color to serve as the background for the entire room. This is your primary color that will be used considerably on the walls as well as with the complementary nursery decor around the room. You can choose secondary colors next, but start with one dominant color that you love. #3: Decide on Accent Colors When selecting accent colors, try to find something that will pop out against your primary color. For instance, you may select pale yellow as the backdrop with bright purple and orange as accent colors. Choose something that will create some contrast and give a unique appearance to your room. It's up to you how heavily you want the accent colors to predominate. They can be used sparingly to draw interest in some areas of the room, or boldly on walls and in baby nursery decor. Try to steer clear from applying colors only on walls. Colors should blend and coordinate throughout the room as a whole, and that includes furniture and baby nursery bedding.

#4: Decide if You Want Patterns, Shapes, or Designs If you want to keep things simple, or if you want a basic nursery that can be augmented after the baby is born, then room colors and baby nursery decor may be enough for now. If not, then tinker with plates around light switches and other decorative materials to add more zing into your baby's room. You can also hang quilts with varying textures and colors on the walls, or add borders with lovely designs and patterns. Even painting a mural is possible if you have the time and talent. Some baby neutral themes to consider include numbers, animals, gardens and oceans. #5: Decide on the Best Accessories and Bedding Sheets for the infant bedding set, bassinet, or baby Moses basket should be used sparingly to minimize safety risks, but you still have enormous freedom to play with coordinating hues and shapes through the nursery decor and bedding. Extras like lamp shades and baby crib mobiles offer excellent opportunity to add in splashes of color or interest. What is your mission for the baby neutral nursery? This is your opportunity to create the perfect world for your newborn.
