I don't need to tell you that many people are having a difficult time in this economy, and many are considering starting their own online business in Network Marketing or the Direct Sales sector; but are finding themselves faced with doubts on many levels. The inner pull of the entrepreneurial spirit that lies inside many of us is overridden by the fear of trying something new and unknown. Having been a network marketer for many years using the old paradigm of cold calls and large and small meetings to build my business, I noticed that there was a subtle shift in the way this industry was being conducted. The shift to marketing online became what everyone was talking about as the "new wave" of starting your own online business. Often there are very common reasons why people consider and then reject the idea that they can be successful marketing on the Internet. In my experience, the main issues that keep people from jumping right in are: *  A fear of the unknown *  Fear of having to go it alone when they have spent their lives in a "JOB" working for someone else * The wrong mental attitude * Not knowing where to get started or which online business opportunity to choose * A lack of computer education and expertise I hope to shed some light on what sometimes seems like a dark. bottomless pit of reasons why "not" to pursue a home-based online business. Of all the reasons why people stay paralyzed in a less-than-desirable life situation, such as a job they hate or not getting started in an online business, fear of the unknown is one of the biggest. Somehow we think it must be more comfortable to "stay on the fence" than to move into circumstances that we can't predict. In actual fact, and from some personal experience, sitting on the fence is far more uncomfortable than just making the decision to bite the bullet and embark on a new business (a vast unknown territory) by just "jumping right in". It is far easier to face the consequences of a firmly made decision than to balance on the much too narrow side rail of indecision. In every moment there is a choice (or many) to be made; from simply, do you get out of bed and feed the cats and begin your day; or do you lie here and vege, thinking about all of the things you need to do today? The choice isn't always simple. Maybe you went to bed very late last night (another choice), and
you need to recuperate. Maybe there is just so much to do today that you can't face it right now. Maybe you just don't have any self-will and can't motivate yourself. No matter what the physical, mental or emotional situation may be, you still can make the choice in the moment to enhance your current life experience. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow hasn't happened yet. All you really have is this moment and your free will to choose how you will live it. Echart Tolle in his magnificent (my opinion) book, The Power of Now says, "All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry--all forms of fear--are caused by too much future and not enough presence." Focus on the present is the first step to living in a place of ultimate possibilities. Since none of us know what will happen in the next moment, we must trust that each decision we make is somehow being guided by our inner knowing. We can guess what might come next; but that would mean that we are living in the future, and we can never know what the future will bring. This is part of the excitement of living. The Law of Attraction declares that we create what we believe; we get what we think and what we ask for. (Be sure that what you ask for is a "positive" thing and not what you "want". Asking for what you want will get you more "wanting".) The ultimate tool for creating our futures is to work on our beliefs and to know exactly what we expect to occur in our lives. In many cases, this knowing is not clear. We know that we desire to have a better life, a fulfilling job, more financial independence, and hopefully, to make an impact on our world. But how do we accomplish that? How do we discover what we really desire? How do we get clear within ourselves, so that the "fear" of the unknown becomes the "anticipation" of the unknown? How do we live our best lives? A favorite of mine, Dr. Wayne Dyer, has a wonderful blog  where he advises the importance of meditation in our lives. This is an essential ingredient in our lives as spiritual beings having a human experience. When you have started to practice being in the moment and not fearing what the next moment will bring, you will be on the path of mastering your life. Then you can handle anything that arrives. Every new venture or path in our lives holds both the excitement of adventure and the fear of the unknown. Usually, it's taking the first step that's the hardest. This is especially true of deciding to stretch our current reality to include a whole new world of unknowns. I'm speaking of really utilizing computers and building an online, home-based business. There are so many people nowadays who need to expand their income horizons. Perhaps they have lost their jobs, become a new Mom or Dad and want to stay at home with their child, or watched as their carefully planned and funded retirement accounts evaporated in a few short weeks. Whatever the cause, the reality is that a new source of income is essential, and finding a new "JOB" is not part of that reality. This is where one has to take that "fear" and transform it into motivation. I speak from experience. I watched as my retirement income dwindled to a point where I have to do something drastic to
build it back up or work for the rest of my life. I shied away from an online business, because I have always had a love/hate relationship with computers. This is where I pulled up my inner strength, remembered my ability to create in my life, and manifested multiple sources of help. The key to any creative aspect of one's life is to focus on what you want, place it into being with positive thought, and then start doing something to make it happen, all the while expecting it at any moment. Suddenly, the unknown becomes familiar and the fear disappears. No matter at what stage you are currently, there is something out there to help you to move on to your next discovery. Personally, I searched for education to familiarize myself with the workings of the Internet. I envisioned that there would be a way (besides bugging my children) to learn how to utilize the Internet. I knew that I had to overcome my fear (which manifested as confusion) of learning what I needed to know about social media, website construction and all the step-by-step processes involved.  When you seek, you will always find what you are seeking; it just may not look the way you expected. Here are some of my inspired sources of information and motivation. I hope you find them helpful.
Dr. Wayne Dyer's Blog An Inspirational video I believe that life is like a giant quilt! (one of my favorite pastimes, by the way) What I mean by that is that each event in your life, good or bad, contributes to the beautiful creation which is your life. Life is full of choices, and it is never too late to change your path, to make a more beautiful quilt block. I have lived a very entrepreneurial life (so far). I have run two successful, international retail businesses; was #3 in a real estate company in an affluent east coast community; attained director-level leadership positions in a prominent nutritional company; and have continued to use my teaching degree and counseling certification to build my online business by helping others. After many years of honing my skills at network marketing, teaching, mentoring and artistic adventuring, I have taken a new path---exploring the riches of the Internet. I am working with the most revolutionary online marketing system available today; and through the training and mentoring I have received (and passed on to my team) in just a short time, I am well on my way to financial security and the reassurance (I didn't really need it) that it's never too late to do what makes your heart sing. Using this home-based business model, I have the opportunity, daily, to help others attain their dreams while I achieve mine. I believe that mankind is meant to work together for the betterment of all. This is my mission--one tiny piece of creation at a time.
