The amount of new immigrants pouring into Canada each year is plentiful. While most classify as Skilled Workers (and their families), some are not. A Canadian immigration lawyer, however, is used to helping those who are skilled in an area where Canada is lacking in qualified people to immigrate into the country. This is one way that Canada has of filling in any gaps it has in its labour market. These Skilled Workers contribute to Canada's economy but also to the overall society. Skilled Worker Point System A test is in place for those looking to enter Canada as a Skilled Worker. Applicants must be prepared to pass a test based on a point system which is designed to determine the likelihood of an individual's success if allowed into Canada. Six factors are measured in the test with a score being assigned for each. A Canada immigration lawyer will advise a client looking to come into Canada as a skilled worker that they must pass this test to qualify under this category. Currently a person would need 67 points out of a possible 100 in order to pass. The factors measured under the point system are: - 10 points for Age - 25 points for Education - 24 points for Work experience - 21 points for Language skills (English and French) - 10 points for Arranged employment - 10 points for Adaptability Additional Requirements There are 2 additional requirements that must be met on top of achieving the 67 points needed to pass the test to qualify. A Canada immigration lawyer will point out the criteria that are as follows: 1) You must have an Arranged Employment Offer (AEO). If the applicant has arranged employment and has this job validated by the Canadian Human Resources Dept., the applicant will qualify as a skilled worker. 2) Or, have at least 1 year work experience in the list of (29) high demand occupations. Your Canada immigration lawyer cannot help with locating employment in Canada for one looking to immigrate to Canada. If, however, an applicant is able to find their own employment our firm can help with getting your job validated by the Canadian Human Resources Department and added to the skilled worker application. Additional Notes Keep in mind that while an applicant must meet all required criteria set forth in order to qualify under the Skilled Worker category they must also meet the criteria for any other permanent resident applicant. The applicant as well as their family will need to show that they
have no criminal history and have good health. A Canada immigration lawyer can help a person fill out the application for coming to Canada as a Skilled Worker which will be processed though the visa section of the Canadian embassy or consulate serving the applicant's home country. The time for processing can vary from case to case, but one year should be expected before a visa will be issued. Also, be prepared for a request to be interviewed by a visa officer, which may be necessary.
