ABSTRACT This short article features the doctrine of the eternal Sonship of Christ. It considers a short exposition of the subject, citing Origen as an early progenitor of the teaching and the Westminster Confession of Faith as the perpetuator of the teaching and looks for possible reasons how the doctrine flourished.
INTRODUCTION We begin this article with Donald Macleod asking, “Granting, however, that there is a real personal distinction between the Father and the Son, is the sonship eternal?” (Macleod 127). I contend that the doctrine is much understood and has been subject of much controversy I therefore would want to spend my short time to clarify this extremely important truth. Whereas, this teaching (God the Son) has become the chief teaching of the church,It does not, however, seem to me to be precisely correct. Let us remind ourselves, this doctrine developed at a time, when the early church was being attacked on all sides. Since then, It has been the subject of perennial attacks on the person of Christ.
