WAMY Quran Distribution Project
2017
Project Overview In July 2017 WAMY Australia and South Pacific has initiated Bayan project aiming at distributing more than 30,000 Quran Copies across Australia The Australian Bureau of statistic’s 2016 census report indicated that the total Muslim population in Australia has risen to more than 600,000 since the previous census in 2011. This announcement make Islam officially the second adhered to religion on the continent. With growth comes an increased demand for Islamic educational material and particularly the Holy Quran. WAMY’s regional office was tasked with delivering a Quran copy to as many individuals of the Muslim community as possible across the whole continent. Immediately, a project team was assembled and the ‘BAYAN’ WAMY Quran Distribution Project was initiated. Although, ‘BAYAN’ was officially launched on the 5th of August 2017, preparations began over a one month in advance. To meet logistical and scheduling challenges a comprehensive multilayered four level distribution strategy was concocted. Spanning more than 5,218 KM and crossing five of the continent major states: Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. In the course of this project, cooperative partnerships have been established and existing partnerships consolidated in the path of this noble cause, AlhamdulliAllah. With our local and interstate partners we have managed to reach and distribute the vast majority of the shipment, meeting some of the Muslim community needs in this regards and furthering constituent’s awareness of the good work WAMY does.
3
Objectives • To distribute 30,000 Quran copies through ‘BAYAN’ WAMY Quran Distribution Project across Australia focusing on cities with a larger concentration of Muslims • To expand WAMY’s network and awareness in Australia amongst registered Muslim organisations and individual members of the community
Challenges & Opportunities • WAMY is physically present in the state of Victoria. This limits the ability to directly distribute in four out of five major states. This limitation creates the opportunity to build and establish partnerships with many Islamic organisations in the other states. • ‘BAYAN’ would require interstate cooperative organisations to contribute resources and time for this project. • Finding reliable statistics, contact phone numbers and address database. A task team was formed to work on creating a database that contains the number of Islamic centres, schools, mosques in all major states. • Being a project that required the input of multiple parties, scheduling logistics and events had to constantly shift and be adjusted.

WAMY Quran Distribution Project
2017
Preparation Phase: Upon initial planning, this project was broken down to three major components, planning, marketing and distribution.
Planning: An operations room made up of four WAMY staff and contractors was setup in our head office in Melbourne, Victoria. The initial task for the team was to ascertain the scale of the operation, plan a multi-dimensional, multimedia marketing campaign and finally plan and appropriate distribution channels across all major states in Australia. Upon completion of planning, more than 200 Islamic organisations were entered into the WAMY database. This includes: Mosques, Schools and community orientated organisations, all spread across five states. AlhamdulliAllah, WAMY managed to strike a strategic partnership with major Islamic bodies in all states for the purpose of distribution.
Marketing: Multi-dimensional Multimedia approach was taken for marketing. All tactics were decided upon with a well thought positioning strategy for WAMY. Our emphasis on content quality and the use of contemporary communication have enhanced us a more contemporary and vibrant image, befitting our organisational vision of being a pioneering organisation for distinguish youth. The following are examples of marketing approached the BAYAN campaign employed: • Umbrella Branding the campaign as ‘BAYAN’ WAMY Quran distribution project • Project tailored marketing collaterals: e.g. Banners and wall posters • Vlog-style announcement video: For Facebook and Launch • Infographics: for launch presentation and stakeholder emailing • Emails • SMS • Direct call: Staff were given comprehensive training specific to this campaign

Distribution: Distribution was conceived and planned in a dimensional approach. There were two dimensions identified: the local distributing dimension, which address how the copies of Quran were going to reach individual members of the Muslim community in each state. And, the interstate transit dimension, which addressed the challenge of shipping more than 22,000 copies across a vast geographic area spanning more than 5,218.4 KM.
Local distribution dimension: The state level distribution The objective of the local distribution is to reach as many individual of the Muslim community in a given state. The states include, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. To achieve this objective four distribution levels were created; 1. Primary Distribution Unity (PDU): A launch event were Islamic organisations were invited to collect their copies of Quran for then redistributing amongst community members (only in Victoria) 2. Secondary Distribution Unity (SDU): WAMY representatives in all states deliver to local organisations address
3. Tertiary Distribution Unity (TDU): Distribution directly to community members at designated major centres after Juma’a 4. Quaternary Distribution Unity (QDU): Individuals and organisations collecting Qurans copies at local WAMY office or WAMY distribution partner’s centres (interstate)
Interstate Transit dimension: Victoria to Major urban centres A total distance of 5,218.4 KM was covered. Both Rail and Road transport were used at a very competitive market rate (AlhamdulliAllah), thanks to logistical experience within the project team. The following is a state by state break down of Quran copies distributed:

Making Muslims second largest religious demographics on the continent. ‘BAYAN’ WAMY Quran Distribution Project was launched on the 5th of August 2017 to deliver Quran copies to individual Muslims residing in all five major states across Australia. • BAYAN in both local and international media.
•
Standardising shipping pallet sizes to 1.16m x 1.16m. This will reduce double handling for interstate and local transportation. The pallets used for this shipment are too small and run a higher cost to ship by land or Rail.
•
Reducing the per box weight as the current is too heavy. This may be achieved through reducing the number of copies per box
Vote of Thanks WAMY would like to extend our gratitude and utmost appreciation to the following interstate partner and our local collaborating organisations and volunteers: Interstate 1. United Muslims of Australia - NSW
Future Recommendations The following recommendations are a collective of feedbacks from BAYAN team, interstate partners, Islamic organisations and individual members of the Muslim community. •
10
Request for increasing the level of English copies. More than 50% of the demand we have encountered requested English copies.
