With a desire to explore how science and technology can be used to improve the performance of buildings both socially and environmentally, architecture has brought out the dichotomy of my personality, allowing me to engage both creatively and scientifically with the fundemental idea that design can change the lives of both the poor and rich. I believe that architecture is for everyone because everyone is directly affected by it.

Interior Design This building interior is designed to showcase the core african color scheme and it’s reach vibrancy. Brown is very important color in the zulu culture and this partly because they refer themselves as brown people hence I wanted to highlight this color in the collumns and other interior material to bring about a zulu feel in these spaces.

Extension of the Outdoors The curvilinear nature of this building is highly influnced by Durban artdeco culture and in this instance we wanted to play with the curves so that they act as sun shades for the floors below and also as an extension to the outdoors for the people living in floors above.

THE TWIN CITIES Merging The Twin Cities Benton Harbor & St Joseph This is an urban renewal project. Our site is located in Benton Harbor, a city which was once well known as the bread basket of the United States but now known for it’s high poverty and Crime. This former fresh produce capital is located next to a wealthy city called St Jospeh Michigan. Due to racial tensions from the past these two cities have been distinctly seperating itself from each other. This project seeks to rejuvinate the community by providing an opportunity for people to sell produce from the market and it also seeks to heal past racial wounds by creating a space that will be alive all year round, a space that will be welcoming to people of alll classes and backgounds.

Conceptual Plan An important part of this design was looking at the precedence of market squares that were succesful around the world. In this interesting search Piaza Navona became the main influence and because of that we inspired to look at context in which this vibrant square existed using Noli map. This helped us get an idea of the layout and the importance of relating the themixed use developmenet to the rest of the city. The section below is cut longetudnally across the ice skating rink/market area.

Rethinking Slums! Having grown up in the slums of Duban South Africa I always wanted to one day and build affordable housing for my local community and the opportunity availed it in the form of a social venture business pitch. I than started a Non-Profit organization which deals with partnering and collaborating with the community to design and build the “Half House Project.” This is whereby we work with individual families to design and build a house that is best suits theire needs, we then help them build the half of the house that they wouldn’t afoord, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. We design the house in a way that the Half that we build can act as functioning unit and the porch can be converted into more rooms whenever the family is financially capable of doing so.

Facade Analysis The drawings contained in this page are a collection of sketches that were drawn in Pienza and Siena Italy. The purpose of these sketchies was to learn how to communicate ideas through the medium of drawing by analysing different traditional facades and city panaremas. This exercise enabled me to compare and contrast various wasy using the window to wall ratio and it also opened my mind to infinate possebilities of building faceds layout in relation to scale and proportion. I also go to see the city layout as result of drawing panaremas and this enabled me to think of faceds in the context of the whole neighborhood or city rather then indiviual components

Europe Anayltic Study Abroad The Summer Analytical Study abroad is a class that exists to challange our perepective of what architecture is or ought to be by showing us a variety of ways of solving the same problem. And this is done by travelling around Europe for 5 weeks and learning about different architects and building styles and analysing the via sketchies. On the right we have a collage of Pienza. Pienza is a town and commune in the city of Siena in the Val d’Orcha in
Tuscany, between Montepulciano and Montetalcino, is the “touchstone of Renaissance urbanism.” To the left of Pienza is .... Cathedral in Stockholm which was meant to represent true swedish architecture. To the left of a commercial building steel connection.
