As Kevin Lynch stated, a good place should make one “aware of her community, her past, the web of life, and the universe of time and space in which these are contained.” My hometown, Fushun, once boomed for its largest strip mine in Asia, is now facing the serious resource crisis with plenty of subsidence area abandoned; Tiexi, the biggest industrial base in northeastern China, is removing most of its factories for residential gluttony to meet the ambitious GDP; also, those ancient cities I traveled, is loosing the original cultural attributes and occupied by too much commercial benefites. They got distinct segmentation from tourist area and local region where you can hardly find any differences from places to places. Even so, when I was overwhelmed by China’s diverse culture and unprecedented urbanization, I found it is just the unique “chaos” that makes up our identity. Thus, from my perspective, our identity must have the relevance of social participation, historical culture, and regional character where the site belongs. Communal involvement uplift the vitality of city. I believe that architecture has the social responsibility to perform appropriate function where individuals can capture a sense of belonging, where social interaction among people is enhanced. The identity of city lies on historical background, human culture as well as practical life forms. I never regard it as a mechanical mimic of traditional pattern, but a merge of spacial essence and extant demands.

Good architecture reflects site’s atmosphere, with specific form, local materials and traces of time. It is deeply rooted in the context where they belong, revealing reasonable and fascinating differences in details. For me, architecture is an envelope of vivid life, it is the past memory, the regional container with its own temperature and specific individual identity.

THE LAND OF MANY PALACES
Ghost City Revival Plan - Vertical Ecosystem
2016 EVOLO COMPETITION Location : Ordos , China Tutor : ZhangFan Collaborator : MaHaijiao Contribution : Team Leader Concept 60% Analysis 70% Model 60% Rendering 80% Duration : 2015.10-2016.1
Ordos, the biggest ghost city in China, has rather completed facilities and new local government but few people live there except the original farmers. It is because the lack of social connections and incitement of income that make Ordos an abandon city. Considering Ordos is rich in soloar energy and wind power and there are many network grids set around the unfinished buildings and which is sustainable energy to run them. Besides, these are unlikely to be used again for people owing to the weathering of nature, however, it is a suitable place to raise stock and vegetations since the desertification has deprived Ordos natural environment together with local people’s income resource. This vertial ecosystem is a viable way to realize Ordos industrial tranformation and to reinforce social relations and to bring about Ordos’ revival.

RECORDING THE VILLAGE Village Activation - Folk Museum
Academic Work Location : Shenyang, China Tutor : Wangjing Collaborator : WangWentao Contribution : Concept 30% Analysis 40% Detail Design 90% Modeling 80% Duration : 2013.3-5
The museum is situated in decaying village with a long tradition on handcraft making. To exhibit the history and culture of the site, this museum will include gallery, handcraft classromm, bookstore, and work space. The museum is conceived as a micro-village, a cluster of several small buildings. The spatial concept is to create a visiting experience alternating between indoor galleries and outdoor landscape when visitor walks through the museum, so as to provoke an awareness of the inseparable relationship between handicraft manufacture and environment.

Fushun, one typical energy-exhausted city, has large amount of subsidence area due to the excessive exploitation of coal. By utilizing the subsidence phenomenon and its time continuity, the space itself could perform this change with its flexible structure. In the process, the original pattern of mine is portrayed, hence visitors can commemorate and reflect the past while wandering in the real experience.

THE SYMPHONY OF 1948
TieXi Industrial Base Urban Planning - Industrial Transformation
Academic Work Location : Shenyang, China Tutor : WuWei Collaborator : MaHaijiao Contribution : Team Leader Concept 80% Analysis 80% Modeling 70% Rendering 90% Duration : 2016.3-4
With the enforcement of TieXi east to west strategy, the biggest industrial base boomed in 1948 of northeast China is losing its most striking feature - the industril trace. One fortunate site has left which is also under threats of being demolished for more profitable residentials. Separated texture between the site and nearby residential is the most serious problem, however, most industrial pipe, facilities and factories running south-to-north can be one opportunity to stitch such split. Combining entertainment, commercial and displayment public functions, the old industrial base may provide neccessary activities for peripheral resident, thus become the core of nearby region. As the same time, TieXi's glorious industrial memory can also be well preserved.

INTROVERTED NATURE
Chinese Garden Modern Interpretion - Anpin Street Villa Design
Professional Work Location : Nanjing, China Collaborator : LiXinggang, Liuzhen Contribution : Detail Design Duration : 2016.8-9
Project located in an ancient urban area of Nanjing which faces the problem of height control, surrounding urban texture and culture atmosphere. Inspired by Chinese traditional dwellings and gardens, the private, introverted space is seperated but also connected within the public space. The outside layout follows the scale of city while at the cross of inside street we enlarge the space for people to encounter and talk. By creating the landscape inside the villa, we hope to constructed a silent nature where people can feel the spirit of classical garden away from the outside chaos.
