Social &Culture The Australian Federal Government, South Australian State Government, DSTO, Defence SA and The University of Adelaide invested over $40M to construct a headquarters for IPAS, which now houses a unique suite of transdisciplinary laboratories. These facilities include glass development and processing, optical fibre fabrication, laser and device development, luminescence dating, environmental genomics, photonic sensor development, and synthetic, surface and biochemistry and offices to colocate IPAS researchers and students from a broad range of scientific disciplines
Providing world-class and purpose-built teaching, learning and research facilities, the $100m nine-level Ingkarni Wardli building is home to the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. The Kaurna name, meaning ‘place of learning or enquiry’ recognises the special relationship the University of Adelaide shares with the Kaurna people, the original custodians of the land on which the University is situated.
The Barr Smith Library owes its name to the Barr Smith family, a pioneer family in South Australia and benefactors to the University of Adelaide over many decades. In 1899 the University Council resolved that its library should bear the name “The Barr Smith Library”.
Two lawns in between The Braggs, Molecular Life Sciences, Ingkarni Wardli and the Engineering and Maths Sciences building. If you’re looking for a bench to sit on, these lawns are lined by picnic tables. A water bubbler stands in front of The Braggs entrance.

light study LUMINOSITY LIGUISTIC DEFINITION Luminosity is an architectural lighting design firm focused on lighting and daylighting for the interior and exterior environment. There are natural light and artificial light used in architecture design, both of two kinds light refer to two movement, light reflection and light transmission. And shadow is the common product of luminosity, objects, and space.
Luminosity and human and architecture
People need light. The fear of darkness not only from the people`s dependence in light, but also because the disappearance of light which would lead to people lose the ability to understand the surrounding information. Darkness would make people in the state of helplessness which from unknow things and unpredictable things, this feeling on darkness could be

weaken with age but will not disappeared by the increase of rational knowledge. Light and shadow is an important way to show the architectural space, performance of plastic arts, beautify the building environment. The skilful use of shadow and light can make a fantastic effect in architectural art. A long time unchangeable stimulus for human is unbearable, as well as no sense stimulation, the two situations always result in fatigue and boredom for human. For the architecture, the ever-changing direction, intensity and colour of the natural light meet person`s visual psychological demand. Light is also one of the essential elements in space, human could have a more profound understanding on the space of architectural through research on the relationship between light and architectural space. Lighting design in architecture
is an important component of architectural creation, it not just art but also science, through a reasonable combination between light and architectural space, architectures can meet the human visual and health needs, at the same time, it also can provide light and shadow`s art enjoyment for people.
CASE STUDY
Artificial light design in the works of Zaha Hadid – Nordpark Railway station-fluidity Light movementreflections Zaha Hadid`s works often show skilful light design, in the Nordpark Railway station, the whole structure was not isolated with surrounding landscape because the use of reflection movement of light, light is not absorbed by concrete but is instead reflected by glass, the smooth and vitreous surface material of Nordpark Railway station create complex mirror images which stimulate the viewer`s perception.
light study Equinox. The natural light which comes from the setting sun render the pure concrete construction, present a harmony space in light, emphasis the original feeling of concrete. Thus, walking through the sequence of openings at the portico of the Salk Institute brings to mind the dark silence of cloister. Louis Kahn used light turn concrete into poetry.
Natural light and Louis Kahn` masterpiece: Salk Institute Louis Kahn`s belief in light
Light is a central element in Kahn`s Philosophy, Louis Kahn believe that light is a giver of all presences. All materials in nature are made of light, the mountains, streams, air, even human. For Louis Kahn, light is the maker of material, the purpose of material is to cast a shadow and the shadow belongs to light. The natural light used in Salk Institute-Silence Light used to render. The most impressive part in Salk Institute is the central park water slowly flow into Pacific Ocean through the water channel which face the west. The sun would just fall in the end of the water stream at the sunset of Spring Equinox and the Autumnal
Natural light and Tadao Ando`s work: Church of the Light Tadao Ando`s belief in light
“In all my works, light is an important controlling factor. I create enclosed spaces mainly by means of thick concrete wall. The primary reason is to create a place for the individual, a zone for oneself within society. When the external factors of a city`s environment require the wall to be without openings, the interior must be especially full and satisfying.”- Tadao Ando The natural light used in Church of the LightDeity Light used to shape and produce shadow The Christian Cross in the Church of Light is the most fantastic part. The extruded cross in the east facing façade which allow
light to pour into the space throughout the early morning and into the day. The whole building is composed of a concrete shell which could add to the darkness of the church by creating a more humble, meditative place of worship.

lIGHT sTUDY REFLECTION LIGUISTIC DEFINITION In Physics, Reflecion include reflection of light (specualr relection, diffuse reflection) , water waves and shoud, it is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium form which it originated.
Phylosophical meanings Reflection and Percepetion
Human beings can recoginize theirselves or the world itself not because we have a special innate ability to do that, we could not understand the world without any references, there is a bridge between human beings and these references we call it as medium. Light offers an opportunity for human to recoginize things around world, you could see an obeject in front of you

because the informations come into your eyes which are the transformation of light, the reflection of light made the shade for the most of things in the world, they give the ability to human beings to feel the shape of objects, to know the color of objects, to provide necessary element for visual perception. Furthermore, this movement of light, it built a thing which we call as “space in some way, human being could use thier limited percetions abilities try to understand even to catch the esstial property of the world through light.
lIGHT sTUDY CASE STUDY
Relfection and Metal Messe Basel New Hall
Messe Basel New Hall is a exhibitionn hall in Basel, Switzerland, the light reflection use in building surface is also skillful, unlike the glass use in the faรงade of Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, in this case, metal as a reflective which play an important role in the light movement. The stretched metal gesture at Messe basel New Hall which introduces a linear interpretation of
light reflections, the special structure of stretched aluminium used in the building surface made a strong sense of contrast for vistors, because the twisting bands of aluminum on this building made the building part which toward sky become more bright, while the area which toward to the ground receive less light and become darker than other area. Through this case, we can conclude that the reasonable use of light reflection could create simulation on people`s visual perception, to make building become more vivid and contrast.
Relfection and Glass Elbphilharmonie Hamburg
The Elbphilharmonie is a concert hall in HafenCity quarter of Hamburg, Germany, it is now set to become a new center of social, cultural and daily life for the people of Hamburg and for vistors from all over the world. The fantastic part in this buiding was the using of glass on the faรงade, the glass facede which consisting in part of curved pannels, some of them carved open, the two ways of glass element using distort the percepetion of the city, water
and sky. The reflection of light made the glass faรงade like a mirror which coule reflect around enviroment, from the reference images, when people watch this building in the bottom of this site on a boat, they could clear see the blue sky and cloud were mirrored in the glass faรงade, when visitor look it far away on a high- rise building, the whole city buildings and the water were also mirrored and distorted in the glass faรงade. In this case, we could conclude that the reflection of light can make the building into surrounding enviroment, in additional, the vertical and horizontal convex or concave glass pannel could distort human visual perception which made a changeable situation for people.

lIGHT sTUDY OPACITY
The opacity is a term that refers a thick or dark quality that makes something such as glass or a liquid difficult to see through, synonyms and related words include transparent, opaque, translucent, in addition, it also means formal the quality that makes something such as a statement or problem difficult to understand, synonyms and related words include complexities, sophistication.
Phylosophical meanings
How the people to define an object? How can we feel the space? The two things both related to the opacity, shadow is created by the combination of light and object, but if object itself is transparency, for example, the glass, should we say a
27
piece of glass is not an existing object or we cannot feel its. Absolutely, it is a wrong proposition, because all the actions we argue above just base on visual senses, but human has a complex sensory system which not just include visual sense, but also sense of touching, smelling, hearing and tasting. For example, we can feel the concrete texture by touching concrete slab, you knock it to hear the special sound from concrete panel. Back to the opacity, even a transparent glass, it could make a little bit refraction and reflection with light, people could recognize it by compare to normal circumstance. From opacity to transparency, this priority of object could lead to a series of difference feeling for people, it almost like the process of night time to day time, dark to light, in architecture, opacity give a sense of limited space with limited image but safe? transparency could expand the limited space but would decrease the privacy feeling of people.

STUDY
hitecture often refers to surface or wall, to figure out the type of surface which could help people avoid treating spaces as defined only by wall. They are ucency, translucency and combined surfaces. Opaque or opacity surfaces separately two sides completely and fully, the result is physical and visual separation, rfaces allow full visual connection while creating physical separation. Translucent surfaces create partial visual separation with either full or partial physical rosted or sand-blasted glass wall allows light and some visual clues to communicate while preventing physical connection. A mesh or other type of screen more visual information while allow facilitating sound and air movement. A case study from Henry Plummer` article, Whiteness in Nordoic Countries, it spread using of opacity white surface in Nordic countries. There is scarce light in winter and long summer days in Scandinavian countries, so, the architects surfaces to counterbalance the long and dark winter days. The low position of the sun in northern regions creates long shadows and therefore daylight enters more from the side than from above. In other hand, there are a diffuse light in summer evenings. Usually, religious building could show a wide variety of timeat unique light situation. The typical example is the Pirkkala Church by Kapy and Simo Paavilainen. From the picture which taken by Henry Plummer, in the we could see the soft light come from outside going to the church inside by the left transparency glass window, the light renders the white wall and ceiling e a harmony feeling. The stronger light starts to go into inside in late morning due to movement of sun, some light spot would project on the white wall ndicate the morning time. From the midday to the early afternoon. The sunlight projections move from the bottom of white wall to the upper area of white r area and bright area lead to a contrasting view. From mid to late afternoon. The low position of the sun in northern regions in afternoon would expand the tions in the church, the glass acts as a lens and as mirror make a part of church itself project on the white wall, the beautiful and elegant shadow lines and ent create a feeling of divinity.

lIGHT sTUDY FILTRATION
Filtration is any of various mechanical, physical or biological operations that separate solids from fluids (liquids or gases) by adding a medium through which only the fluid can pass. The fluid that passes through is called the filtrate.
Phylosophical meanings
Human are a kind of creature which are autonomous, that is the basic different between the artificial intelligence. Filtration for people, in some way, it be represented as choice or the action to choose, and the action to ignore some things, for example, in common case, one child receives two candies but one of them taste bitter and other one taste sweet, the bitter one covered by red wrapper, and the sweet covered by green wrapper, you provide two candies to the child again, normally, child would pick the sweet one. That process can be
37
called as filtration as well. Choices always in human life, as people would always pick the choices which could bring benefit things or feeling to themselves, they ignore the bad things or the worse things. However, some filtrations in people`s life are out of control, that is the consequence of biological evolution, for example, we can figure out different color, but there could be some color we can`t see because our eye and brain cannot recognize it, furthermore, there are some other things we could not recognize by ourselves, such as time, but we can have indirect cognition on time, like the changing on object.
CASE STUD
It is simpler to understa in architecture if we reg filtration this word as h hiding. Architecture is m build a limited space in space, so architects use cut space, to make them internal space and exte or we could say we hid using barriers so we ca recognize it by our sen Filtration in architecture artistic action, for exam we use wall to hide all set window to let light the internal space, over people who live in the the wall help him to hid however, we are not g refuse all things about need changeable thing window or translucent people to filter the light and let light going inte Filtering action in archi always related to buildi orientation, window or etc. The famous archite

works have deeply show the filtration on light on build is Le Corbusier, his position as an outspoken agnostic seems very ambivalent in combination with his desire to open soul to poetic realms. one of his masterwork is pilgrimage chapel at Ronchamp which reveal distinctive and individual approached that each render contemplative spaces with light. Light is a very important thing in human culture, especially its meaning that only architecture can express, in many different religions, light has been linked with divinity and holiness, so pick the right light has become the most important part in religious architecture design. For La Chapelle de Ronchamp, Le Corbusier not just catch the beautiful light in different time, he also processed the pure natural light into different form by using colorful glass, to express light to human eyes by the combination of natural night and building materials and form. Even his light design in this church has metaphorical meaning, for example, the dawning sun illuminates the alcove of the side chapel and turns the red-painted vid even redder, the reddish morning
light is a clear analogy to human birth. Besides, the Other characteristic of the Chapelle de Ronchamp is the roof design and east and south walls. The professor Emeritus at University of Illinois at Urbann-Champagin, Henry Plummer described this church in his book “Cosmos of Light: The Sacred Architecture of Le Corbusier, Sun floods the tall slot between the east and south walls, continuous with the rays of light through the deep cavities of the south wall The small horizontal crack of ten centimeters lifts the roof from the wall and creates a harsh contrast to the glow of the vertical brise-solei at the southeast corner. The cycle culminates finally in a warm glow from an opening in another side chapel at sunset.
