Well what can I say? Where do I start? Diamond Platnumz was in Kenya to launch his brand new album-A Boy From Tandale (which is doing very well on all digital platforms). This particular album is really star studded with the likes of Vanessa Mdee on the song ‘Far Away’, Tiwa Savage on the song ‘Fire’, Neyo on the song ‘Marry You’, Rick Ross on the song ‘Waka’ and ‘Hallelujah’ featuring Morgan Heritage just to name a few. Having travelled all over the world extensively, this album is very close to Diamond’s heart. It mostly touches on the musical journey he has gone through and the challenges he faced while growing up before becoming a superstar artist. Raised in Tandale by a single mother and grandmother, Diamond was faced with very challenging and humble beginnings. Due to financial constraints and a passion for music from a tender age, after completing his Secondary education in 2006, Nasibu found himself struggling to raise money for studio sessions and providing for his single mother and grandmother. He went from freelance photographer to selling second hand clothing to gas filling station attendant. He eventually made the difficult decision to secretly sell his mother’s gold ring to record his first single. The song was not an immediate hit but it opened doors for him and marked the beginning of his journey as a bongo flava artist. Over a decade later Diamond Platnumz is one of the most loved and decorated Tanzanian artists.
One song that really got my attention is ‘Baikoko’ with its upbeat tempo, the harmonies, and the instrumental is just on another level of musical geniosity. "Baikoko is a coastal dance found within the East African region of Tanga (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya). Baikoko resembles the Swahili Chakacha dance, which features hip roll movements like singer Shakira and slow waist wine like Caribbean singer Rihanna."’Iyena’ is another track that is very impressive track featuring Rayvanny. Other songs on the album are ‘Baila’ with an amazing orchestral feel that is very sweet to the ears as it’s a lovey dovey kind of track.’Niache’,’Sijaona,’Kosa Langu’, ’Amanda’, ’Nikuone’, ’Nana’ featuring Flavour Nabania,’Kidogo’ featuring Psqaure, ‘Pamela’,’Eneka’,’Sikomi’ and ‘Number One Remix’ featuring Davido. The last song is ‘African Beauty’ features Omarion and its receiving very good reviews all over the world especially in Africa and the United States of America. It fuses that bongo flava blended with American Rnb in such a creative way. Click on the link to the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH2QsiBixe4
