Manciny Interview (Imani Migwi) I got the opportunity to interview one of the most iconic fashion designers of all times -Imani Migwi of Manciny fashion house and she got to share with me her experience in working with the Chivas regal team to come up with a new trendy blend of sports, music and fashion all fused into her new fashion collection (worn by Victoria Kimani and other social influencers). Here is what she had to say about the whole concept:
What does the name 'manciny' mean / stand for? A nickname that has stuck for 2 decades now. Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Culture shaping icon fearlessly influencing the industry and nurturing/mentoring the next generation of creatives. How did you come up with the whole Manciny Chivas Afroblend collection for the Chivas Regal Afroblend Exclusive Dinner recently? How did you end up becoming such a huge fashion brand to enable you to partner with Chivas regal and even work closely with huge celebrities like Victoria Kimani? CHIVAS is a lifestyle brand whose legacy is built on traditions of craftsmanship - the art of distilling, maturation, blending. Like Style, it's Timeless, the older it is the better it gets. The inspiration behind the capsule collective is The Signifier which breathed life into the collection. A powerful yet playful tool of self expression. For the Culture, the bespoke digital print is an ode to our local Masai Shuka print that feature on the Roll Top Backpack/Jersey/Jacket/Socks & Pants. This is what you get when you Blend Sports, Fashion, Style, Art & Culture.
What is the secret to your success? GOD. In Him I live, move and have my being.
If it weren't for fashion, what other career path would you have taken and why? I'm a Cinephile. Definitely be a Filmmaker. What keeps you so humble and grounded in your life and fashion business? You can't play a symphony alone; it takes an orchestra to play it. In my life journey so many people have helped in one way or another and have been my source of motivation. I wouldn't be who I am today without them. What is your Motto in life? To thine own self be true. Why is the Chivas regal signifier so significant to you? A powerful yet playful tool of self expression that breathed life into the collection. Any last words or advice to young fashion designers out there who look up to you as a role model/mentor? Work with what you got; Work towards what you want.
