Olakiitan Raymond Akande is one man who has changed the face of the media and showbiz industry with his expertise. From managing and doing public relations for A-list artists across Africa and to running his own empire-KayGold Media, this man has literally eaten life with a big spoon. I caught up with him recently to do find out more on the inspiration he got to start-up this company amongst other stuff that make him unique and well respected in the industry: How long have you been doing this job? I've been in the entertainment business since 2006 but I became very active in the music scene in 2012 Some of the artists you have worked with? You mean which artist have I not worked with? TBH I can’t keep tabs but off the top of my head I can mention a few that I have worked with in no particular order: Tekno, Iyanya, Laolu, Seyi Shay, Davido, GospelondeBeatz, Rayce, Jaywon, Big trill, Johnny Drill, DJ Neptune, DJ Flex, OJB (Late), Daddy show key, Skales, Small Doctor, BebeCool, Jackie Apia, Praiz, Burna Boy amongst others! Was it your dream to always work in the media/showbiz industry? Yes, its something I’ve been passionate about since childhood. I grew up in a music home and I was a drum band boy since my 3rd year in primary school till I got to university. The passion for the entertainment and talent management has been there since I ever stepped my leg in a music studio. How many departments do you have within the company? We have the talent management, A&R, music promotions and the celebrity booking agency departments. In addition to these, there are hobbies that I really find interesting and I do for leisure; like music production, song writing and Djing.

If it were not for this job, what other career path would you have taken and why? From the wish of my parents, I would have been a lawyer or a civil servant. Or by my wish I could have been a full-time DJ or video director. Advice to anyone who wants to start-up their own PR company like yours. This career path is definitely a long journey and I call it a marathon. A lot of people want to be in the result and not the process. What I usually tell a lot of people and my client is that if you work on your craft and remain persistent you will definitely get there. Work on your brand, maintain your integrity and network a lot. Any last words? Your network is your net-worth so don't snooze on that. Be humble be nice and learn to bring value at all times. I volunteer to mentor the first two Kenyan artists that reach out to me (NB: Your music has to be super dope).
