WHY ARE EVENTS NO LONGER 'POPPIN' IN KENYA
WHY ARE EVENTS NO LONGER ‘POPPIIN’ IN KENYABY WANJIKU THUKU
This is one question that has been lingering on the minds of Kenyans for such a long time now, but still nobody has an answer to it. Do you remember the days of proper events like chaguo la teeniez ,MTV Mamas,Mtv Allstars,Tusker Allstars,Jameson live Connect when celebrities of all calibers were flown into Kenya to grace our stages, mnet idols, big brother, channel o team live recordings,Spectatacular fashion high profile events and many others which all faded away.

Ask yourselves why? Is it poor governance? Is it lack of proper funding from investors or sponsors who are not pouring all their expertise into all these initiatives? Kenyans going out for dressy events or even social gatherings as much as they used to, they aren’t paying much attention in supporting these celebrities, corporate brands and so on, they don’t have proper media partners or public relations agencies to push and promote all their agendas.
This is extremely sad, questionable and doubtful considering how Kenyans are always used as ‘guinea pigs’ or bait to promote other brands but don’t really appreciate our own. Where did we go wrong as a country? Why are we so receptive of other international materials and resources in all aspects, but can’t really create content that will shock the rest of the world. We are behind in a few things, but we try to stay relevant in all the wrong reasons and trend on social media for things that don’t really add value to any of our industries especially in the showbiz, media and corporate world.
These new generations of youth ‘wajacoykah’ generation seem lost and confused, lack creative ideas and expertise to change the way we view and organize or attend various events. We don’t really know the difference of how to organize events, how to execute these events, kind of people t invite, security protocol and other logistics, plus we spend so much time organizing meet and greets that seem more like gatherings or hangouts without actually meeting our set goals or targets and losing focus on why these events were held in the first place.
The entertainment, media and corporate industries are barely hanging by a thread as the country faces heavy woes with corona pandemic and global recession going on. A miracle needs to happen otherwise our thriving industries will crash faster than they began and we won’t be able to seek ‘financial’ or ‘creative strategy’ aid due to lack of decorum, etiquette ,proper infrastructure ,funding and so on to go back to the top position of ‘Hub of Entertainment’ and everything else.
