Kuwait Police Hospital Architectural Concept and Schematic Design | 01/26/2014 - 06/15/2014 Located in the Al Sabah Health zone along Jamal Abdul Nasser Street in Kuwait City, Kuwait, Kuwait Police Hospital is a 500 beds hospital dedicated for Kuwait police and their families. It incorporates a wide variety of medical specialties and in-patient facilities as well as several annex buildings including a 300-seat auditorium, housing for family members and visiting physicians, a mosque, an ambulance complex and etc.

The STRIATE scheme is one of the three concept design schemes. With the striation of the site, each bar becomes separated function zones with their bases connected by a public concourse inspired by Arabic characters. Two main bed towers rise from ground toward the highway and the bay making a strong gesture and image for the Kuwait Police. The grand public concourse is pierced by five light wells in-between bars which are also key elements of the scheme's sustainable strategy. In this project, I mainly worked on following part: - Initial massing and site circulation study; - Building facade design; - Light well and its structure; - Drape at the main entrance; - Sustainable strategy.

Zhongsha Island Urban Design Urban Design | 10/15/2013 - 12/13/2013 A Model Low-carbon Development for Fuyang City and Six Unique Villages is the winning entry of Zhongsha Island Urban Design International competition. Situated in Fuyang, a third-tier middle-size city which is 3-hours drive from Shanghai and 1-hour drive from Hangzhou, the project proposes an alternative model for the New Chinese Urbanization. Reflecting on the generic pattern of contemporary Chinese new towns, the project proposes six mixed-use villages that are different from each other in street network, land use pattern, density, architectural style and etc in order to create six unique experience for residents and tourists. A multi-purpose green infrastructure framework and a low-carbon transportation system is proposed as both separator and connector of the six villages. Together, they promote a pedestrian friendly and environment friendly lifestyle for this new town. I mainly worked on the following parts of the project: - Initial three urban design concepts; - Regional strategy; - Urban design framework; - Road network and transportation system design; - Lido Beach and Green Village design; - Competition book production.

Green Infrastructure Framework The multi-purpose green infrastructure integrates wetlands, water management system, public amenities and low-carbon traffic system together. It is an ecological corridors that provides habitats for local species. The wetland and boulevard are both great public space and the waste water treatment system of the island. The electric shuttle route is along the green spine and connect the centers of each villages. Instead of promoting cars, the project proposes a "park once" strategy with which residents and tourists are encouraged to park their cars once they arrive the island and then take the electric shuttle around the island or walk around the neighborhood.

Six Unique Villages The six villages of Zhongsha Island - Culture Village, Lido Beach, Eco Island, Water Town, Knowledge Village and Arts and Crafts Village - constitute a unique and enriched experience for residents and tourists. Each village is different in its character, function, street grid, architectural style and development intensity. Culture Village provides civic amenities for the people of Fuyang; Lido Beach aims to be a world-class tourist destination; Eco Island offers a luxury living experience in the nature; Water Town capitalizes on the local rivers in its place-making; Knowledge Island creates job opportunities and promotes life-long leaning; Arts and Crafts Village re-creates the atmosphere and experience of traditional Chinese villages.

CLOISTER
The cloister is a strategy that operates within existing residential blocks of Newark to unify fragmented and independent properties through creating a common space for creative workers. It capitalizes on the latent potential of existing infrastructure through three housing typologies – the single family house, the townhouse and the multi-family housing project – and brings out a common architectural language from the generic-ness of Newark.

EASTSIDE RISING
The project attempts to develop a systematic superblock that reconnects New York to its waterfront, and leverages development rights over the FDR drive to build a better and ultimately more accessible eastside greenway. By introducing parameters such as highway dimension, population density, waterfront width and subway proximity, a flexible parametric system based on a trefoil diagram - East River Waterfront Zoning- is developed to guide the waterfront development.

Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive Designed by Robert Moses, the Franklin D.Roosevelt East River Drive (FDR Drive) is a 9.44-mile freeway-standard parkway in the east side of Manhattan. Starting from the north of the Battery Park Underpass at South, the FDR Drive runs along the entire length of the East River and thus renders most part of the east river waterfront unaccessible. While New York City has the ambition to build its East River esplanade and connects the entire waterfront, the difficulty is how to tackle the barrier that separates New York from its waterfront -the FDR drive. Existing pedestrian bridges are not only limited in number, but also can be unsafe as they lack what Jane Jacobs called “eyes on the street”.
33
Strategy: Trefoil Ramp To provide maximum accessibility for both pedestrians and bikers, a trefoil model is introduced. Adapted to the context at each site along the FDR Drive, the trefoil ramp not only provides multiple access points connecting the Manhattan grid, but also provides intersection points between the ramps. By building housing atop the convergence node and esplanade nodes, it not only provide massive housing for New York, but also creates “eyes on the esplanade”.
