welcome to
Warlingham Warlingham Sixth Form is a thriving community of dynamic, happy and highly successful students, one third of whom have joined from other schools. We offer a wide range of curriculum choices and an extensive range of enrichment opportunities for our students. The motto of ‘Widening Horizons, Raising Aspirations’ is embedded in the ethos of the school and sixth form and the programme of activities ensures that our students
develop not only their academic knowledge but also the skills and attributes needed to be successful in a rapidly changing world. Warlingham Sixth Form provides an all-round education by offering our students a chance to ‘graduate’ through the Warlingham Sixth Form Graduation scheme. This award accredits all academic and enrichment activities in and out of school; the vast majority of students gain the Warlingham Graduation Certificate alongside the academic results they need and go on to university.

An Emphasis on
excellence
Expectations Expectations are high and to realise them we encourage self-discipline and self-motivation. We help all our students to develop respect for their own work and for the work of others. We consider excellent relationships between staff and students to be crucial in the development of a culture which helps our students to be successful in all they do. Members of staff are passionate about helping our students to achieve excellence; the Head of Sixth Form, the Heads of Year and the team of Sixth Form Personal Tutors are all approachable and available for advice and encouragement. All students are regularly tested and progress is monitored by a tracking system. Parents are kept fully
informed of progress through regular reports, parents’ briefings, subject teacher evenings, and informally by contact with the Heads of Year and Tutors who welcome enquiries.
Russell Group Each year group has a group of the most able students who are mentored fortnightly through a programme designed to support a successful Oxbridge or other Russell Group University application.
Facilities The Sixth Form has attractive accommodation in its own block which contains a common room with a kitchen area. There are also a number of study rooms available at all times, all of which are equipped
as computer rooms. The block is managed by the students through the Sixth Form Committee. The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is another area available for quiet study and is also equipped with computers. There has been significant investment in information technology.

Sixth Form Graduation Certificate We believe that it is a combination of academic success and other activities that form a key part of a student’s preparation for life in the world beyond education. As a result, we have developed a certificate which reflects four distinct aspects of a student’s experience in the Sixth Form: academic success, applied

skills, citizenship, and work-related learning. Students receiving the award leave the Sixth Form with a portfolio and certificate that can be shown to employers and admissions tutors alike to demonstrate the student’s achievements in the four areas.
Sixth Form Committee The committee is a very active large group. We try and involve everyone on one or more of the
Extra-curricular Activities Enrichment and extra-curricular activities are extensive and highly valued by students. There are a wide variety of activities on offer within the Sixth Form and numerous trips during which students can enhance their learning and experiences. In recent years this has included the Geography trip to Naples, the Business Studies trip to New York and the Physics trip to CERN.

your potential progress of students and offer advice and support when necessary. They also guide students through the process of applying for Higher Education courses and employment.
Tutor Programme Sixth Form Tutors To support students in their progress through the Sixth Form, they are organised into a tutor group. Each experienced Sixth Form Tutor has the ability to forge a good working relationship with students during these important final years of school. Tutors meet students daily, and during Tutor Periods, and are the first and main advisers in both academic and pastoral matters. They monitor the academic
This is a programme of advice and information to help our students succeed whilst at Warlingham and beyond the Sixth Form. For example, when students join the Sixth Form they are given their “lowest acceptable grades based on GCSE results, and the Sixth Form Tutor supports their students’ efforts to surpass those grades. In these periods, Tutors also help equip students with the right skills to be successful in exams, plan what to do in the future, and prepare for making job, apprenticeship or UCAS applications.
The programme also includes visiting speakers and discussions about social/political issues which are usually followed by a hot debate and a vote!
Student Leadership Students have the opportunity of applying to be the Head Boy or Head Girl and there are a number of additional leadership opportunities available as student governors and/or prefects. There are also other leadership opportunities, for example there are paired reading and mathematics schemes where Sixth Formers support younger students with reading and numeracy skills. There are opportunities for sports enthusiasts to work with primary school children, running sports events as part of the Community Sports Leadership Award.

after sixth form Careers In liaison with the Careers Service a full programme is followed throughout the Sixth Form to incorporate advice and help for higher education or careers. This includes interviews, outside speakers and visits to universities such as Surrey and Cambridge. and more... Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as debating, Young Enterprise, Community Sports Leaders’ Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
