STAR JOINT SKELETON READING VERNACULAR TECTONIC term:

4th year student

studio:

length:

half semester

c h a l l e n g e Study and analyze technic, construction or formation of thing from tectonic in vernacular Thai environment.

Choose one tectonic, study its typology, find out the factor that make them different and create a model to study its possibilities of developing that typology in consideration of material, function and cultural context.

c h a l l e n g e Use vernacular Thai tectonic that you have studied and developed to create an architecture in the size of 2x2 m. or above.

Analyze the tectonic in form, material, strength issue, structural property, construction process, function, meaning, belief, context, and case study in the field of architectural scale.

The project must base on good logic and clear parameter and should be able to create both physical model and digital model that can specify its parameters.

STRAIGHTLY RODS Long sticks connected with joints repeatedly at intervals in one direction. When form change, length of each stick change, make them variety in format – not unit type – not modular. ALTERNATING RODS Same-length sticks in sets assembled in alternate way of left and right, front and back, and up and down. Unit type property that can define certain size and quantity, and can be replaced, support them for temporary architecture
