customers all over the South East region of Victoria, adding that the quality of product also plays a major role. “Our lubricant business assures quality of product by delivering Castrol Oils to the market as well as the tried and proven BP Lubricants to the agriculture sector. By selling a product that people trust and the service that customers expect we set ourselves apart from our opposition. Our delivery service throughout Gippsland on set days per week allows us to provide products on a regular basis therefore allowing resellers and customers to carry low stock holdings. This is also very evident in our choice of Ad Blue suppliers that led us to form a partnership with Go Blue Australia for the supply of their product to distribute to our customers and Go Blue’s as well. Being a new product Evans Petroleum elected to source a top quality product and set up a first class vehicle for our distribution. With the product available in bulk, IBC’s, 200 litre drums and 10 litre containers as well at the retail pump at selected service stations we are well equipped for the future growth that will occur as more new diesel vehicles come into the market place.” Evans management and staff pride themselves on being local, distributing quality products to the Gippsland market place at competitive prices, employing some 130 staff who assist with keeping the local economy

vibrant and maintaining the best possible service levels that we can. They believe in putting something back into the local community, which is evident in the large sponsorship base that we currently assist. “All visitors to Farm World are very welcome to visit our site at the BP Ultimate Pavilion where we would like the opportunity to say hello and provide any assistance that you may need with fuels and lubricants.” said Mr. Evans.

Evans Petroleum are entering their 27th year of being a major sponsor of Lardner Park Events with the partnership being both fruitful and beneficial in enhancing the growth of both businesses. The partnership actually began with the Mobil brand over 50 years ago, through the then Gippsland distributors and has evolved over time where distribution companies changed as has the fuel and Lubricants brand to BP. The BP Australia/Evans Petroleum partnership with Lardner Park is now entering its sixth year. According to Managing Director Stuart Evans, it has been an alignment, which to date has been seamless and easy to maintain. “We see the benefit of being involved with a progressive partner such as Lardner Park Events, as it allows us to portray our business in the same light, delivering a quality product and meeting our customer expectation. These attributes has helped Evans Petroleum to grow its footprint on the Gippsland region with depots in Leongatha, Traralgon and Sale providing the infrastructure to service our farm delivery customers. This is backed with 15 retail sites in strategic locations and a fleet of B-Double and truck and dog combinations for delivering the larger bulk loads of fuel.” Evans Petroleum Sales Manager John Schelling oversees the delivery of bulk fuel and lubricant to

The business now known as Christensen’s Motorcycles was started in 1923 and purchased by the Christensen family in 1937. The business has had only five owners since 1923. Christensen’s Motorcycles has been attending Farm World since 1999 and you can be sure to expect the same high level of service and the same familiar faces at the event this year including proprietor Steve Cooper and his locally based staff. Through Christensen’s Motorcycles, Steve supports a large number of local clubs, charities and community events through donations each year. The business employs local staff and purchases its supplies from local businesses where possible. These local staff and businesses then support other local businesses to create a strong local economy. Money spent in West Gippsland businesses circulates throughout the region many times, stimulating the economy over and over. In many cases money spent outside West Gippsland never returns to the district. When considering your motorcycle needs, Steve encourages you to keep your money local and support Christensen’s Motorcycles, based in Warragul.

Greenhouses are designed to provide a controlled horticultural environment where you can adjust the temperature and humidity. This allows you to grow plants, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and herbs with ease. The beauty of greenhouses is that whatever you grow is protected from the harsh summer sun, drenching rains, cool frosts and high winds. Within the structured environment, seedlings sprout faster and you can grow a more diverse range of plants than you might otherwise be able to in your climate zone. Sproutwell Greenhouses is a family business that has enjoyed helping gardening enthusiasts and commercial growers alike to achieve their vision of an efficient and flourishing garden. Based in Victoria, it has two display locations in Geelong and Officer, though interstate customers can view its range of greenhouses in a growing number of retail stores across the country. Sproutwell has supplied thousands of greenhouses to everyday Australians, professional growers, nurseries, landscape gardeners, schools, community gardens and large insurance companies. The company offers three very distinct ranges of greenhouses according to your requirements. Often the range that appeals to you will be determined by size, budget, location, weather (particularly if your garden

is subject to high winds), style and colour. Sproutwell is different from the average greenhouse company in that it keeps designs unique and is transparent when it comes to showing customers exactly what makes each range different. Many of its designs are patent, which means you’ll be getting a greenhouse like no other. Visit the website to check out Sproutwell’s new range of ShadeHouses, MultiZone Greenhouses (a combination of a winter and summer house), stylish outdoor room ranges and the new innovative ‘M Series’ that allows any number of greenhouses to be joined together side by side. Sproutwell Greenhouse’s Venlo Series offers flexibility in terms of length and width (which is unlimited) as well as options for 8mm polycarbonate glazing or toughened 4mm safety glass. There is an option to add internal partition doors which provide more control by creating isolation zones. The greenhouses in this unique range are suitable structures for test facilities, research greenhouses and biosecurity plant quarantine containment as well. Farm World 2018 PRE-SEASON DEALS ON NOW!

beverages, animal nursery, pony rides, face painting, competitions, masses of retail shopping and much more! Another fantastic new launch at Farm World this year is “Farm World’s Fittest Farmer” competition. This event will be run on Sunday at the Entertainment Arena featuring a series of heats and a grand final conducted by local trainers on the search to find Gippsland’s fittest farmer – will that be you? Each of the 6 Gippsland regions are being asked through their local Council to put forward a team of 4 farmers to compete in the event – Baw Baw farmers have put the challenge out that they are the fittest farmers in Gippsland – will they be proven right or wrong? The Telstra Women in Ag luncheon is a much-loved and well attended event on Thursday. Brilliant speakers are lined up who will engage, inspire and motivate guests to think outside the box, believe in your abilities and guide you through some of life’s challenges. We’ve all been through trials, tribulations and marched the journey in between so get your ticket and come and hear some incredible journeys shared. The BIG Gippsland Jersey Milk OFF challenge, consisting of timed milking challenges (1 teat, 1 hand, 1 minute, most milk collected), along with commercial dairy farming education and presentations, will again be a crowd favourite and a solid feature throughout the event. A new component of Farm World in 2018 is a dedicated Drone Zone, located adjacent to the Entertainment Arena. The area will feature the latest in drone developments in both technology and practice and showcase how utilisation of drones is such a game-changer for agribusiness (and so many other industries) across the globe. Drones will be an embedded part of so many career and jobs – do your research now, get information on being trained, find out what can be done at your school, and see the latest in the world of drones. Shop until you drop with plenty of retail shopping together with indoor trade exhibitors in the Baw Baw and General Interest Pavilions – and a parcel delivery service available to assist with all those shopping purchases! And whilst Farm World’s landscape is a little bit up and down there is no need to be concerned if your mobility is a challenge as we have fantastic single and double scooters available for hire. Visit the Lardner Park website for booking details. Farm World is the last weekend of the school holidays so make it a family outing with plenty to entertain the kids at the Entertainment Arena, the fantastic Animal Nursery and Animals of Oz Show, and this year on the grassed banks in front of the Animal Nursery is a new “Family Rest & Relaxation Area” with Scouts putting on demonstrations and opportunities for kids to engage in knot tying and all the cool things Scouts like to do, new catering outlets, and a whole new area of exhibitor sites for 2018. There is so much to do and see at Farm World, sometimes you just need to sit on the grass, take a breath and let the kids run around while you watch from the relaxing grassed bank! Information and ticketing for Farm World and functions are available online now at lardnerpark.com.au, purchase ahead and save both money and time at the gate! The event offers a strong focus on the latest in technology, equipment and information and provides an ideal opportunity to get up close and chat with the experts. There’s plenty at Farm World for both professional and lifestyle farmers together with urban pioneers interested in equipment, livestock, DIY passions, sustainable gardening and horticulture, drone innovation and masses of musthave tools. Come and engage with the cattle breeders and check out the different breeds, watch the young Kelpie pups being trained, see the beautiful Alpacas, take a peek at the Equestrian, or get all cute with the jumping dog displays. There is so much more to Farm World! Demonstrations and presentations are activated throughout the entire event including those attributed to the 2018 theme being Food, Fibre, Future with the Food & Fibre Fiesta. During Saturday and Sunday at Farm World, the Lardner Park Conference Centre is converted into a Food & Fibre Fiesta showcasing produce, products and info sessions in inspiring ways. The Fiesta promises a festive ambience of exhibitor sales, demonstrations and workshops running free-of-charge throughout the weekend. The program of demonstrations and workshops will roll over throughout the day, so visitors can stop and listen as they wish. So, what might you see? ● turning low-value lambs cuts into delicious smallgoods ● edible gardens that utilise water reticulation and aquaponics principles ● introducing baking skills to a new generation of online bakers ● bush tucker – a new trend of ancient ingredients ● how to make homestyle pasta sauces and vegan jerky ● turning beer waste into high protein and high fibre cookies ● how cooking with essential oils can harness the power of nature to revolutionise the way many families are managing their health. The Food & Fibre Fiesta will be decorated with bountiful produce from the Baw Baw Food Hub, and with exhibitor stalls from the likes of Tarago Olives, Blue Tree Honey and Clearly Delicious, will open our eyes to the abundance of fresh, organic produce available in our own backyard. The Farm World Equestrian Expo returns with Show Jumping, Dressage, an exciting Barrel Racing Shootout, Mounted Games and an all new Saturday night extravaganza featuring some of Australia’s best riders and their most agile horses performing in the race-against-the-clock speed jumping championships. Who will be crowned Champion on Saturday night and get to sit on the Champions Throne? A new Wellbeing Area supports the farmers PitStop Health Centre and is the place to go for some zen time or to get your flu vaccination check up! We all need to look after ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually so duck into this area and give yourself a little selflove! Head on down to the Entertainment Arena for lots of fun and activities including chainsaw carving, whip cracking, live music, dog jumping, pipe band, working dog demonstration, 4WD activations and more. Telstra Women in Ag Luncheon on navigating your way through life’s daily challenges. Narelle Fraser: Narelle was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years, 15 of those as a Detective ‘doing time’ at the Rape and Homicide Squads and Missing Persons Unit, dedicating much of her career to investigating child abuse and sex offence cases. Narelle received many awards during her successful career and had a reputation as a dedicated, meticulous and passionate Investigator. She worked on high profile investigations including Anna & Gracie Sharpe (by ‘Mornington Monster’ John Sharpe), Margaret & Paul Wales-King (the Society Murders), Maria Korp (the

Val Gardner, Carolyn Turner, Janne Rowe, Dawn Harper and Judy Surman enjoyed the 2017 Women In Ag Luncheon.

The Telstra Women in Ag Luncheon, now a signature event on the Farm World calendar, provides the perfect platform to not only hear from some inspirational speakers, but also to network and liaise with a room full of energetic, talented women. Patron of the Telstra Women in Ag event, Angela Betheras, initiated this event in 2012 as a way of celebrating the significant contribution that women make in rural and regional Australia. This year’s luncheon will feature four brilliant speakers who will engage, inspire and motivate you to think outside the box, believe in your abilities and provide some real-life experiences

body in the boot case), the 2002 Bali Bombing, horrific infanticide investigations, Geoff Clarke (the then ATSIC Commissioner), the Ascot Vale Rapist and many more. She has stared death and trauma in the face throughout her career. In 2012, Narelle began to realise what had been her world, was starting to crumble. A diagnosis she wasn’t expecting, turned her world upside down – a world she loved. It took courage and determination to accept and face her vulnerabilities – but out of that adversity came a new career path and new opportunities. Narelle’s journey will make you think deeply about your own vulnerabilities and strengths. Narelle gives a fascinating and often humorous insight into the daily life of a Police Officer from a female perspective and takes you inside a world you will find hard to believe at times. Narelle recants stories which will make you laugh, cry and just shake your head in disbelief and amazement. Toni Barton: Five years ago, Toni Barton made the brave decision to get into farming. Whilst she had spent her childhood on a dairy farm in Northern Victoria, Toni had been following her corporate career in marketing and management for the previous 17 years. Toni knew nothing about sheep and really not that much about farming. However, she was determined and with 200 acres and 40 Australian White ewes she got started. Her goal was to be part of the food system and to ensure that her family and friends could access best quality meat at a fair price for them and her. She soon realised this goal was attainable and now sells over 400 lambs a year through local farmers markets. Being responsible for the use of the entire carcass led her to developing Australia’s first commercially available Lamb Bacon product in 2016. A salt cured, smoked lamb belly. Toni’s personal journey has challenged her in ways only some could comprehend. Make sure you are there at the lunch to hear Toni’s personal journey, the challenges she has met, the hurdles she’s come across and how her strength and determination has led her to where she is today. Shirley Harlock: When Shirley Harlock married and moved onto a dairy farm, she knew nothing about cows or the industry. As a town girl from Warrnambool, she had a lot of people to prove wrong. And prove them wrong she has! Alongside husband John, they purchased Wollaston Farms at Warrnambool in 1983. Originally having three dairy farms at Koroit, Yambuk and Warrnambool, and with all their eggs in one basket, when the price crash came in, they soon learned they needed to diversify their business to survive. And diversify they did - the couple now operate a dairy

just outside Warrnambool, beef operations at Tarrone and Macarthur and have a farm in Lucindale, South Australia, running dairy, beef and prime lambs. Shirley advocates continuing investment in research and development, and acknowledges that robotic technology, although not for everybody, offers an alternative way of harvesting milk and attracting young farmers to the realm. She was inducted onto the West Victorian Dairy Industry Honour Board, one of the first women to receive this honour, and is a proactive industry representative for the dairy industry, supporting the application of science and innovation into farming practices. Shirley has held local and executive positions with United Dairy Farmers of Victoria, was a Director of the Australian Dairy Farmers Board, Chair of Dairy Food Safety Victoria, Chair of the Dairy Australia Future Dairy project and in 2012 won the NSW Dairy Science Award, she is definitely a passionate and avid advocate for a wide range of agricultural pursuits. So after starting with 120 cows over 45 years ago, and wondering where the next dollar would come from, to now owning an enterprise that gives a rewarding lifestyle, satisfactory income and choices for growth and scale, Shirley is very content to continue in the industry that she loves and share her knowledge and experience with future generations. Natalee Ward: Natalee Ward has been the editor of The Weekly Times since July 2017. She started with the newspaper in 1997 and is the first woman to edit The Weekly Times in the paper’s 148-year history. Natalee grew up on a farm at Balliang, went to school in Melbourne and later studied a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne. Her first job was as a cadet reporter at The Riverine Herald in Echuca and later The Shepparton News. She returned to Melbourne as a reporter on the Sunday Herald Sun before moving to The Weekly Times. Today she heads the nation’s most comprehensive rural and agriculture news service, with a newspaper, a 24-hour news website, a fleet of magazines covering agribusiness, education and boutique farming, and two awards programs – The Weekly Times Coles Farmer of the Year, and the Shine Awards. She runs marathons, has a husband and two young boys, and is currently studying an MBA at the Melbourne Business School. The Telstra Women in Ag lunch will be held from 12:00 – 2:00pm on Thursday 12th of April. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lardnerpark. com.au and are $50.00 which includes entry to Farm World, Telstra Women in Ag presentations, lunch, gift bag and a glass of wine or soft drink on arrival.

● Machines are available from 1.5m to 6 metres ● Linkage and trailed ● Extra sturdy frame The parabolic Tines can penetrate up to 500 mm, and are fitted with reversible chisel points. The two rear tusk rollers have a levelling mechanism and height adjustment. Soil is lifted, the surface is cultivated, and crop residue is partially incorporated to speed-up decomposition. Often cereal crops, legumes and maize can be re-seeded after a one pass cultivation. Most beneficial organisms in the soil are aerobic; most detrimental organisms in the soil are anaerobic. Good aeration will inhibit the damaging organisms and encourage the beneficial ones. This will be a healthier soil which will mineralise and recycle nutrients more

Widespread use of Steinfort AgVet’s “Pelvic Lift” and “RiserTank” over the past 5 years have significantly increased Downer Cow recovery rates. Developed by Gippsland based veterinarian, Dr John Steinfort, the “Pelvic Lift” and “Riser Tanks” can be used together to enable farmers to more humanely and effectively transport and rehabilitate Downer Cows. The “Pelvic Lift” is designed to lift and transport cows for both short and long distances. The unique design enables 50% of the weight to be taken by the hips, like traditional hip clamps, with the other 50% taken via the pelvic seat being positioned under the pelvis, well above the udder. The addition of a webbing strap evenly lifts the brisket. As the cow is lifted horizontally, the animals back is straight and aligned, unlike using hip clamps where the hind legs are tilted down, straining the lower back. Once a cow is lifted she can either walk away or be transported andplaced in the RiserTank to further assist the recovery process. Aided by the buoyancy of water, the “RiserTank” provides a confined space in water to enable the cow to stand and feed for longer than normal. Up to half of the cow’s body weight is reduced when standing in water. Standing in warm water invigorates the cows to eat and drink. Generally a cow stands in warm water for 4 to 12 hours per session with a 2 hour break or a full rest at night. The cows are continually left in the RiserTank with the majority of water let out at the end of each session to provide time for the cow to rest. The RiserTank is again refilled with water for the next session - this process is repeated until the cow can confidently stand without the buoyancy of water. Research in using the

RiserTank has shown an 80% recovery for calving paralysis cases, with all recovered cows returning to milk within 7 days. According to Xavier Parkinson who milks 900 cows at Koroit in Western Victoria, the RiserTank has doubled their Downer Cow recovery rate and has helped them in developing a standard procedure to better manage downer cows. The use of the RiserTank has significantly saved on labour with Xavier indicating they cannot devote the time to conventionally lift cows regularly. Andrew Gaul, who milked 360 cows in Western Gippsland, highlighted that cows are his biggest asset and with a Downer Cow recovery rate of approximately 90% and cows being valued at $2,000 each, the RiserTank has been a really good investment. Andrew said the key to achieving the best results is

to get cows into the RiserTank as soon as possible. Studies have shown that recovery times are reduced with cows generally requiring between 1 and 3 days for a full recovery. According to Dr John Steinfort the RiserTank is also ideal to differentiate the cows that will not recover readily. You can usually diagnose a cow’s condition within 10 minutes of placement in water. If a cow is unable to stand and bear some weight with water in the RiserTank, then recovery times will need to be extended or in some severe cases, euthanasia is recommended, as prognosis is very poor. Silvan expands DCM fertiliser spreader range for numerous application tasks Silvan Australia has expanded the range of fertiliser spreaders that it sources from the renowned Italian machinery manufacturer DCM that supplies the world’s farming and agricultural markets with a unique range of tractor PTO powered fertiliser spreaders that are used for the application of value adding superphosphate, urea (nitrogen) and other granular fertilisers. The expanded DCM range now includes spreader options that are application specific and follow on from the outstanding success Silvan has obtained with the original model with the spreader hoppers and other contacts fabricated in high grade stainless steel. The new spreader choices include the Silvan DCM CAW built with a narrow width hopper body for use in fertiliser applications in the confined row spaces of vineyards or orchards. Then there is the Silvan DCM CA range with a painted steel hopper for use with non-corrosive materials. The next option is the Silvan DCM MD painted hopper spreader that offers a 3,000 litre capacity hopper with a fertiliser throw up to 36 metres making it ideal for fast broadacre coverage. Then the top of the range choice is the Silvan DCM MX (photo above) versions with either a 3,000 or 4,200 litre hopper capacity

also with a throw distance of 36 metres. Available with a choice of painted steel or a stainless steel hopper this version is likely to be a preferred choice of contractors or large scale farmers as it is complete with an on-board weighing system for accurate application. The Silvan DCM MX is the only spreader choice with a stainless steel hopper on the market locally. The DCM spreaders with stainless steel hopper have been a critical resource in dealing with corrosive materials like urea (nitrogen) and the issues that can occur in coastal or marine environments where spreaders with unprotected steel or painted hoppers can experience early failure through rust or corrosion. The stainless steel surfaces are ideal for dealing with all types of materials including granulated or pelletised materials and especially highly corrosive urea. The DCM stainless hopper range available from Silvan now extends to load capacities from 800 to 4200 litres covering everything from narrow vineyards to large broadacre farms. For more information on the Silvan DCM Stainless fertiliser spreader range contact Silvan Australia at 1300 SILVAN (1300 745 826) or email info@silvanaust.com

Who is CLEAVER?

The CLEAVER Salumi cabinet will be a feature of the String + Salt site at Farm World this year.

Until recently, salamimaking was a once a year activity. Not anymore. With a CLEAVER Salumi Cabinet you can make your favourite dry-cured meats all year round. The innovative CLEAVER Salumi Cabinets recreate the ideal natural conditions for dry-curing meat, allowing for small to medium scale batches to be made with any type of meat and at any time of year. “Traditionally, meat curing can only be done in winter as the temperature is too high and the humidity is too low outside of this period, CLEAVER Salumi Cabinets founder and business owner Dave Cann said.

“People would have a salami weekend once a year during these conditions, where everyone gets together and makes several hundred kilograms of cured meats, but many people today want to be curing year round – to try out their new recipes and meats as they have them, and in much smaller batches. Since being launched at last year’s Farm World, the cabinets have become popular with home enthusiasts with a love for cooking, to farmers and hunters who have access to regular meat. “CLEAVER is the first and only domestic curing cabinet on the market, Mr Cann said, “Our aim was to

create something which was significantly more accessible than the existing largescale commercial ones previously available. String + Salt’s site (Site 317 on Third Street) will also feature the handmade Falcon Range Cookers, the solid-fuel Rayburn Ranges and the iconic UK AGA cookers. It will be a hive of activity for cooking demonstrations, tastings and specials happening right across the four days of Farm World. String + Salt will also be offering a selection of exdemo and floor stock cookers at very special prices from Falcon, Rayburn and AGA for Farm World.

Pump out waste with Dumac Dumac Distributors P/L a 100% Australian owned and operated company, manufacturing and selling our own brand of waste disposal pumps since 1963. We manufacture with a maximum of Australian made materials. The first model was the “Filter-Cut” pump which is still manufactured and has been updated over the years but with the important key features retained in today’s model. Originally, it was a horizontal unit with the body cast into the pit wall and

the motor mounted above the pit, which had problems. These were overcome by our first vertical column waste pump, the first in Australia and possibly the world for this application. The “Filter-Cut” pump worked well, but like all other pumps it was subject to excessive wear. A decision was made to go in a different direction with the wet end, it would not have the cutting action and agitation of the “Filter-Cut” but be tough enough to handle abrasive and large solids.

The “Ruffy” pump model was released September 1974 with great success and did so well it still retains the main features of the original and has only had 2 modifications in that time and they were both done within the first year after its release. The “Filter-Cut” pump comes in 2 outlet sizes, 11/2” and 2” BSP and in column lengths to suit pit depths from 2’6” (760mm) to 12’ (4.57m) all have an external agitator blade that is attached to a 75mm extended impeller nut which are both made from case hardened steel.

This, together with replaceable hardened steel tips, fitted to the faces of the impellor vanes and a hardened steel perforated plate with a clearance of approximately .020”, combine to agitate and cut up solids; it is a true cutting action not just bashing. The 11/2” model can have motors from 2Hp – 7.5Hp (1.5kW - 5.5kW) with a maximum of 28m shut off head or 680l/min open discharge. The 2” model can have motors from 5.5Hp – 25Hp (4kW – 18.5kW) with a maximum of 73m shut off head or 1450l/min open discharge. The “Ruffy” pump at present has a 2” BSP outlet with column lengths to suit pit depths from 2’6” (760mm) to 6’ (1.83m), it has a large open steel impellor with a heavy walled cast iron casing. Suction is unique, in that it is from above the casing and when in operation there is negative pressure in the column and therefore does not require any seals. Standard operation for the “Ruffy” is direct coupled with a 3Hp (2.2kW) 1440 rpm motor, depending on the distance or liquid being pumped may need a 4Hp (3kW) motor, where higher output is required it can be belt driven with a 5.5Hp – 7.5Hp (4kW – 5.5kW) motor, also becoming popular is in 3phase operation, it is direct coupled

with the larger Hp and a variable speed drive. The output is from 24m – 35m shut off head or from 980l/min – 1200/min open discharge. The “Filter – Cut” range of pumps are most suitable where there are softer solids in suspension, heavy sediment or high heads. The most common applications are in Piggeries, Abattoirs, Wineries and food processing plants or similar operations. The “Ruffy” range of pumps are most suitable where there are hard or abrasive solids or very high volumes over shorter distances with low power requirements and minimal maintenance. The most common applications are in Dairies, Abattoirs, Wineries and in recent years some mining applications. None of the pumps will pump plastic bags or bailing twine, but at the same time under normal circumstances they will not damage the pumps and both the “Filter – Cut” and “Ruffy” pumps can be run dry without damage. Dumac Pumps are also agents for the Teco range of electric motors and variable speed drives and the Ebara range of pumps which have everything from domestic systems, borehole, submersibles and mining pumps.

Solar powered farm gate openers The Solar Powered Automatic Gate Opener is so convenient, you can now remotely open the gate in the rain or at night, without getting out of your vehicle. After passing through the

gate, it automatically closes behind you and locks the gate with a positive locking system, using a locking shaft and a locking bracket that cannot be pushed open, providing you with maximum security.

Remote Controlled

The Drive Unit is a heavy duty, 24volt swing arm, metal geared mechanism that provides long life, reliability and fast gate opening/closing time of typically 12 to 13 seconds . The system comes with two

Gate cannot be pushed open when closed ● Switch on control box enables gate to remain open or automatically close ● 2 x batteries that when fully charged will open/close the gate 500 to 600 times, without any sun to recharge batteries ● 20 watt of Monocrystalline Solar panel, guaranteed for 20 years ● 2 x remote controls for vehicles Many other options including: Visitor buttons - Wireless or hard wired Wireless keypads Vehicle loops that open gate when driven over Remote controlled gate lock - disables all visitor buttons from your vehicle remote Photo electric sensors. batteries to provide you with additional open/closes to cover extended periods of little or no sunshine. This amount of battery power will provide 500-600 gate openings/closings without charging, on a normal farm gate. The gate opener is available as Solar Powered that requires no electrical power at the gate, low voltage that is cabled from a nearby power outlet (no electrician required), or 240volt system which does require power to be cabled to the gate. All systems have battery backup when there is no sunlight (for solar) or loss of electrical power such as a blackout (for 240volt or low voltage). Visitor buttons can be added to the gate system, which allows for visitors who do not have a remote control transmitter. These visitor buttons can be hard wired back to the control box, or can be wireless pushbuttons which do not require cabling (no trenches to be dug). For security, a wireless keypad can be installed, which requires a PIN number to gain entry. Additional options can be included, like photo electric sensors to stop the gate closing on slower vehicles, such as large trucks or farm machinery, in ground vehicle loops to open the gate when a vehicle drives over the loop and remote controlled gate lock so that all visitor entry buttons can be disabled from your vehicle as you leave the property or retire at night. Other options also include remote controls to control your gate from up to 5km or alarms to warn the gate is opening up to 5km away. The gate controller kits come as an easy to install DIY kit which is always supported by the team during and after installation. See them at Farm World Site CB113.

Kactus Point Charolais are pleased to be holding their fourth sale at Farm World this year. During the four days of Farm World, 10 hand picked young Charolais bulls will be offered for private sale at the field days. First in First Pick. The bulls are a combination of poll and horned bulls which are ready to go straight to work. The poll bulls in the sale have low birth weight backgrounds. Kactus Point Charolais was founded by Bruce and Vera Cook in 2008 when they bought their first registered Charolais cows. They have constantly improved the genetics over the past years. The main herd began with the first pick of MixHill’s joined and unjoined heifers (27) when they dispersed their herd. These heifers became the major nucleus of the herd and they have bought from many other sales to constantly improve their herd genetics. Over 150 stud cattle have blood lines from Boongatti, Rosedale, ANC, Nargoon, Sedalia, AYR, Carabinier, Pinay, SVY, Jay Tees, Tirrikee, Palgrove, Huon, etc. The herd comprises of both E and F grades in both horned and poll form. The stud is building up on poll blood lines in both E and F grades. Bulls which are being used now are from Rosedale, ANC and Boongatti (a son of Pinay). These bulls have been producing some excellent progeny.

NEW MODEL OPTUM 270 & 300 AT FARM WORLD Case IH Australia’s prediction that the Optum CVT tractor, released in Australia last year, would be a perfect fit within the Case IH high horsepower range has proved to be correct. Case IH Product Manager, Peter Elias said the Optum CVT is instantly recognisable by its dynamic modern styling that introduces the look of Case IH tractors for the future and creates its own category by combining the versatility and manoeuvrability of a Puma with the power of a Magnum. “An in-depth customer clinic was held, involving owners of a variety of brands in this segment,” said Peter. “We thoroughly evaluated demands and expectations which then were implemented in the development, design and manufacturing of the new tractor range. “One key requirement Australian farming and contracting businesses focus on is the manoeuvrability and compact dimensions of highly versatile and powerful tractors - that is what our development engineers kept in mind. “We are convinced that the Case IH Optum CVT will soon be appreciated as a truly versatile and reliable high performer.” Manufactured in St Valentin, Austria, the Optum CVT range consists of two models with the proven 6.7 litre NEF engines from FPT Industrial, with 270 or 300 horsepower at a rated speed of 2,100rpm and a maximum power of 313 horsepower at 1,800rpm. This economical and powerful engine conforms to the latest Tier 4B exhaust emission standards using the patented Hi-eSCR system.

The efficient and reliable CVT transmission is carried over from the LWB Puma range - reinforced to handle the extra power of the Optum CVT, with a strengthened casting, new rear axle and double planetary final drives. The CVT transmission has a useable speed range from 20m/hr to a top speed of 50km/hr, without needing to change any gears.

The transmission also has the active stop feature like the rest of the CVT range. A design change where the engine sump serves as the backbone of the tractor, removing stress from the engine block, means the Optum CVT is capable of a maximum gross vehicle weight of 16,000kg. “This increased weight helps ensure the additional power gets to the ground, but we’ve achieved this without compromising agility,” explains Peter. Other notable features on the Optum CVT include: ● New reactive steering – makes for comfortable driving at speed as the steering wheel returns to the straight ahead position ● ABS/ABS advanced and automatic park lock ● 4-speed rear PTO, 2-speed front PTO ● Closed Centre Load Sensing Hydraulic System - 220 litres/min hydraulic flow with separate steering and transmission systems ● 630 litres diesel tank and 96 litres AdBlue tank ● Rear linkage with 11,058kg maximum lifting power at ball ends ● Front linkage with 5,821kg maximum lifting power at ball ends – perfect for triple mowers ● ISOBUS Class II/III ● Headland Management Control (HMC II) and remote file transfer function ● Longest service intervals in the power sector For more information about Optum CVT, contact us at Farm World. Backup vs Business Continuity

NBN Business Internet Services Business Con nuity Cyber Security Computers and IT

So, you are doing your backups. That is very good. You would be taking a huge risk if you weren’t. Things happen. Hard drives fail, computers fail, people make mistakes, malware corrupts data. But let me ask some pertinent questions to help highlight the false sense of security that comes from feeling everything will be okay, because we do backups. How long ago did you do your last successful backup? Do you monitor and test backups to make sure that they are successful? If you had to restore from a backup, how long would it be before you had the system up and running again; from a simple data corruption, from a system failure or hardware failure? How long can your business afford to be without its critical systems before suffering significant losses? What is the cost per minute to your business of having your staff sitting around doing nothing? What is the potential lost revenue to your business from not having your systems available? The first three questions are very important to determine that you have the right kind of backup solution to suit your business. The last three questions highlight the difference between having a backup solution and having a business continuity solution. A business continuity solution focusses on what your business needs to be successful, to continue to deliver services to your customers and meet your customers’ needs.

The cost of idle time and lost revenue can have a far more detrimental impact on your business than the cost of a solution to reduce these impacts. You need to look at a solution that ensures that the time between the last successful backup taken and the time the system is restored and operational again is within acceptable limits for your business. For most traditional backup solutions, the time between last backup and successful restoration is 2-3 days, assuming your last backup was successful. There are managed backup solutions that reduce this timeframe significantly, but they are costlier and often still take at least a day, including working overtime to have your business up and running again. But did you know that there are solutions that can have you up and running again within an hour or two, or even only minutes? So don’t just say, we do good backups, so all is good. Your business requires you to ask the allimportant business continuity questions. And then get Jim’s IT Services to deliver the business continuity solution that your business needs. Bill is your local IT Consultant in the Drouin/Warragul area for Jim’s IT Services. He has over 30 years’ experience in IT, and qualifications as an ITIL expert, which includes training and expertise in Business Continuity processes. Bill is one of a few consultants from Jim’s Computer and IT Services that can service your area. Call us on 1300 288 371.

Completely redesigned from the wheels up, midrange workhorses with power ranging from 90 to 140Hp are now available in Australia. The Arion 400 series carries six models and offers features normally only found in larger horsepower tractors such as optional front suspension, front linkages, automatic differential locking, automatic fourwheel drive, headland management systems and dynamic steering. The Arion 400 comes in two transmission options, the Hexashift (24/24) or the Quadrishift (16/16), which allows for more convenient gear changing due to its ability to shift between gears using a multifunctional lever, without the need to use the clutch pedal.

"Over the past few years, CLAAS has concentrated on modernising its offering in the medium and large horsepower tractors," says Branch Manager, Luke Sibson. The most notable change to the Arion 400 is its highvisibility, sunroof-like Panoramic cab, with a 2.4cubic-metre one-piece windscreen, which won the SIMA Gold Innovation Award and the iF Design Award. A low roof and single-door cabin option is also available. Under the bonnet, the new Arion 400 has a 4.5litre four cylinder FPT engine with modern common rail injection (1600 bar), charge air cooling and a turbocharger. Another feature is the

three-button-mode dynamic steering system, which can execute 90 percent of all work while in the steering angle dependent mode. All models feature an agronomical-designed, multifunction lever that controls the front-end loader, rear linkage and optional electro-hydraulic or hydraulic controls. "You use your left hand to steer and your right arm to operate all the tractor’s key functions. You can switch through all the gears, change direction of travel and use the front-end loader and spool valve functions using your thumb," Sibson explains. Farm World 2018

There’s plenty to entertain the kids at Farm World. Step out into your own backyard at this year’s Farm World at Lardner Park in picturesque West Gippsland and discover all the fabulous fun and activities on offer for the whole family. Farm World is on during the school holidays so make it an adventure, with plenty to entertain the kids. Start by heading to the Entertainment Arena for lots of fun and activities including whip cracking, chainsaw carving, 4WD activations, working dog demonstrations, live music and more. Wander across to the fantastic Animal Nursery and Animals of Oz Show and get up close and personal with cool and cuddly guinea pigs, lambs or maybe even a reptile! And just in case the kids are not sure where milk actually comes from, make sure you are there at 10am and 3pm to see their resident cow get milked, it’s country living at its best. Need a break? Relax on

the grassed banks in front of the Animal Nursery in the new Family Rest & Relaxation Area. Parents can kick off their shoes and chill to some local buskers whilst the kids get their faces painted or blinged up with some glitter paint! Local Scouts will also keep the kids entertained by demonstrating their skills with knot tying and camping tips and tricks. Not far from the Animal Nursery is the Rotunda where you will find The BIG Gippsland Jersey Milk OFF. This is a challenge like no other which consists of a series of timed milking heats (1 teat, 1 hand, 1 minute, most milk collected), along with commercial dairy farming education and presentations. This was a huge crowd favourite last year and will once again be a solid feature throughout Farm World. A fantastic new launch at Farm World this year is the “Farm World’s Fittest

Farmer” competition. This event will be run on Sunday at the Entertainment Arena, featuring a series of heats and a grand final conducted by local trainers on the search to find Gippsland’s fittest farmer – will that be you? Each of the 6 Gippsland regions are being asked through their local Council to put forward a team of 4 farmers to compete in the event – Baw Baw farmers have put the challenge out that they are the fittest farmers in Gippsland – will they be proven right or wrong? Come on down and cheer them on! Every year, Farm World strives to bring a selection of new activities to the program, and this year, we have helicopter rides. Get a bird’s eye view of the enormity of Farm World and the amazing farming surrounds. So, load up the family and lock this in as a must-do at Farm World! And speaking of locking in activities, did you know you can plan ahead with what you would like to see and do by downloading the Farm World App from the iTunes store? Keep up to date with what’s on and ensure you don’t miss a thing. Farm World is the perfect day out for the family with food, beverages, pony rides, masses of retail shopping and much more! Information and ticketing for Farm World and functions are available online now at lardnerpark.com.au, purchase ahead and save both money and time at the gate.

the small producers to the large commercial and feedlot operators. 100% Australian Owned and Australian Made RPM Australia-Pacific is 100% Australian Owned by Geoff Pearson from Western Australia. Geoff is a wellknown breeder, feedlot operator and exporter of cattle and has used RPM products for over 15 years. RPM Australia-Pacific has established unique innovations to their crush range such as the hydra lock ram, rose joint linkages, power lock linkages and the hydra lock squeeze to provide the best cattle crush system for cattle producers today. Ultimate addition Their newest product addition is the Ultimate Air Crush (see attached image). The standard Ultimate Crush has long been a producer favourite for over 30 years. This promoted the idea to manufacture the crush pneumatically. This crush is a totally unique design as it gives the producer the ability to operate both manually and pneumatically. This crush utilises the latest technology available for air equipment making it a faster, cleaner cattle crush and would be an asset to any cattle operation. Pneumatic cylinders are fitted to the headbail, squeeze and rear door of the crush which can all be controlled from a single control box

that is attached to a swinging boom. This boom can be operated in any position from the headbail to the rear door (as pictured below). RPM Australia-Pacific are considered as technological leaders in the industry and are evolving to meet customers’ needs through the continual process of research and development. Through use of state-of-the art computer-aided design

Pakenham Produce in partnership with Arrowquip

Pakenham Produce and Arrowquip in partnership are able to provide you with a quality livestock handling system. If you are in the market for a Livestock Handling System, whether you need to update an existing set-up or customise a whole new system, Farm World is the best place to compare. With such a big investment, not only in cost, but ultimately time and safety for you and your livestock, it’s important to get it right from the start. There’s the old saying “You get what you pay for…” Once you have figured out your needs, then comes the comparison. Not all handling systems are the same- they may look similar and have similar functions, but it’s crucial to investigate and compare ‘Apples with Apples.’ Quality and standards can vary between products, sometimes cheap is not the way to go and by paying a little bit more for the initial set-up you will reap the rewards down the track with less stress and down time. Pakenham Produce are proud to be in part-

nership with Arrowquip to be able to provide you with a quality livestock handling system, customised for your needs and is wholly Australian. Arrowquip use only first grade Australian steel, is manufactured in Australia to our highest standards and distributed locally through Pakenham Produce a locally owned family business to also give you the support and follow up the whole way through, not just on the day at Farm World. If you are after a quality Australian product please come and see the team at Stand LS 13, near John Deere, and ask Tony to show you all the features and help you customise a set-up, give you a quote, then offer local support and follow-up. And keep in mind the Small Business Tax break which you can instantly write-off a business asset up to $20k- ends June 30th, 2018.

New Multi bale feeder improves farming efficiency and safety These are the comments we are receiving from farmers that have purchased and now using the new McIntosh Multi 4 bale feeder. It’s ability to carry up to 4 bales on the machine and another one or two bales using their front end loaders, allows farmers to go out and feed large herds in one trip. Comments from our customers are they are reducing their feed out times by up to 30% and it’s not just the labour saving here, it’s also less wear and tear on the tractors, less fuel and damage done to tracks and gateways. The new Multi Bale Feeder unique twin ram bale loading system is capable of handling bales weighing up to 1200kg in weight and allows the operator to hold the bale above the platform to allow easy removal of the nett and wrap. This is especially suitable for roto-cut silage bales that can fall apart once the nett has been removed and ensures all the material falls into the chamber and not

over the back of the machine. The bale transfer system pushes each bale up into the feeding cradle. Specially designed feeder slats allow the easy transfer of the bales, but ensuring plenty of aggression for consistent feeding. The dual sided cradle allows accurate control of feeding out the fodder, no matter which way the bale is placed into the cradle. The new style vertical drop side feeder chains assist in the prevention of the wheels running over the material. Other features like heavy duty chassis, walking beam axles with floatation tyres, large storage bins and 2 remote operation are all designed to make feeding bales quick and easier. Customers have commented that really like the ability to go into a large herd of cows and feed up to 3 bales out without getting out of the tractor seat. This is a great safety feature as anyone who has experienced trying to get the plastic and nett off the second bale in a mob of hungry cows when you are only

able to feed one bale out at a time. In 2016 at Farm World when we released the machine, we won the TMA (Tractor & Machinery Association) Best Non-Powered Machine of the year. Then again at Elmore field days, they were proud to receive the Weekly Times Best Imported Machine of the Year award for its innovative design, unique features and the ability to improve farming efficiency. For more information and details about the range of McIntosh Bale Feeders including the new Multi Bale Feeder please contact TracMac Farm Equipment on site LS 126 or phone them on (03) 5625 1522.

Paal Kit Homes - ambition rewarded The courage and determination of owner builders who tackle challenging projects single-handed is admirable. Brendon of Lilydale, Victoria, built Paal Kit Homes’ large Castlereagh design on a deeply sloping block and made a magnificent job of it. As well, he saved at least a quarter of a million dollars by tackling as much as possible of the work himself. The commanding outlook was achieved by positioning the house and deck on 88 steel piers that are nearly three metres high at the deck edge. Fascinated by the engineering side of the project and never daunted by challenges, Brendon taught himself new skills, including pier placement and support for the elevated timber flooring. He combined his longservice and annual leave to make a strong start on the house, later employing a

While admitting that his 420 square metre home, including a double-garage and deck, was ambitious, he said, “It was also straightfor-

ward in a lot of respects. I’m very happy with the result. It’s certainly an achievement.” A building surveyor, who inspected the construction at various stages, said: “I’ve been in the game for 40 years, and I haven’t seen it done as well as you have.”

Brendon confesses: “Our neighbours initially felt sorry for me, out there every day in rain or hail or sunshine, but they now take their hats off.” Contact Paal Kit Homes on (03) 9720 1222.

Polaris bucked contracting overall market conditions and enjoyed record amounts of transference from competitor ATV products to its range of 23 models with Roll Over Protection Structures (ROPS) in 2017 to post the biggest year ever recorded by any brand in the history of the Australian off-road vehicle market. Polaris recorded an industry record 6,583 retail sales in 2017 to post growth of nine percent in a market which was down one percent to again be crowned Australia’s number one off-road vehicle brand, finishing a comprehensive 1,017 units and 4.5 market share points clear of its nearest rival, according to data released by industry data provider Potentiate. The US powersports giant closed out the year with 29 percent market share, 2.6 market share points ahead of its record result in 2016. The key growth vehicle for Polaris was undoubtedly its range of 23 models with ROPS, with Polaris growing sales of Ranger side x sides vehicles by 30 percent in 2017 to outpace even the record growth of the Australian side x side market (29.5 percent versus 2016) and post 43 percent share of the utility side x side market. Also leading the charge for Polaris was the unique, single-seat, ROPS-equipped Polaris ACE - its popularity reaching new heights with a staggering 52 percent sales growth versus 2016 and clearly outselling most competitor ATV models. Polaris boasted five of the top 10 selling side x sides in 2017, with Ranger 1000 Diesel HD taking the mantle as the number one selling side x side vehicle in Australia and Ranger 570 HD, Ranger 1000 and Ranger 500 also featuring prominently. And whilst the Australian agricultural ATV market experienced a significant 11 percent contraction in 2017 as customers flocked to side x side and Polaris ACE models, Polaris still grew agricultural ATV sales by 21 percent – representing a positive swing of 32 per cent - on the back of the durability and versatility of its impressive big bore ATV range, including the unique Polaris UTE and Australia’s biggest selling ATV model,

the Sportsman 570. “Polaris enjoyed 30 percent growth in a booming side x side market place in 2017, and at the same time backed this up with 21 percent growth in a rapidly-shrinking ATV market – the only brand to grow agricultural ATV sales,” said Alan Collins, Polaris Australia Country Manager. “We have seen vast amounts of substitution over the past year as ATV customers have transferred en masse to side x side and ACE products due to their capabilities and outstanding safety technology. “Based on the fact that Polaris has simultaneously grown both its side x side and agricultural ATV sales, the majority of this transference has come from customers getting off competitor ATVs and onto a Polaris.” 2018 is also the 20-year anniversary of the Polaris Ranger and the company recently built its one millionth Ranger vehicle. “This pedigree certainly provides some context as to why we are the most trusted side x side brand in the world,” Collins said. “At the end of the day, we have an industry-leading range to meet evolving customer needs, headlined by our 23 models with ROPS which becomes even more relevant when you consider the huge market shift to side x side vehicles. People are voting with their wallets for the choice that Polaris offers.” Polaris credits a combination of utility and safety technology as one of the key factors in the outstanding growth of its side x side business. “Our Ranger line-up offers industry-leading features and capabilities which are relevant to Australian farmers combined with safety technology such as certified ROPS, SpeedKey, seat belt interlock, side needs and 4-Wheel Descent Control. This is all supported by Polaris’ world-class engineering and know-how gained from two decades in the side x side business and back-up from a nationwide dealer network,” Collins said. For the full Polaris story, visit Marriotts at Farm World sites 444-446 and 518-520 or call into the Leongatha showroom. Phone 5662 2028.

Being a 4th generation family farmer comes with great pride but also the responsibility to ensure the longevity of the farm. Following a proud tradition of farmers, Tim Derham has enthusiastically taken over the family property that has been worked by the Derhams since 1875. Originally a dairy farm, it has now diversified to Angus beef, Dorper sheep and allowed Tim to take on being a BRAZZEN Rural Supplies distributor. With an in-depth personal understanding of the expenses that come with running, maintaining and building up a property, Tim and Lyndsey Derham were keen to delve into the opportunity of selling rural supplies. “Knowing what a farmer needs and why goes a long way to ensuring people are buying the best product that suits their needs while understanding the budgets involved,” says Tim, going on the explain “knowing that not all products work for every situation is incredibly important whether you’re a broad acre farmer or just enjoy handling a few animals on a hobby farm”. Lyndsey, Tim’s wife and office administrator, says “Tim’s a good one for saying it like it is, he knows what works and what doesn’t in most situations as he himself is working every day in such environments. “This makes for great customer service and support as he personally understands both the livestock and customers’ requirements”. A handy welder himself, this enables Tim to also customise items. Whether it’s altering spacing on panels to fit calf feeders or having additional gates on cattle crushes, this allows BRAZZEN Gippsland to cater to specific needs. 6700 Series completes Massey Ferguson’s Global Series of tractors from 75 – 130 HP Massey Ferguson, a worldwide brand of AGCO (NYSE:AGCO), is proud to announce the introduction of three new tractors in the completely new MF 6700 Global Series, which are being introduced in the Australian and New Zealand markets. Delivering maximum power of 132 hp, these are the largest, most powerful models in Massey Ferguson’s Global Series of sturdy and straight-forward, all-purpose tractors, which now includes three fantastic ranges that deliver practical, cost-effective operation for the demanding 70 – 130 hp sector. “The MF 6700 Series is the culmination of Massey Ferguson’s significant investment in developing the Global Series. “These completely new tractors are the first and only in the sector to be developed in the 21st century using the most modern design and manufacturing technology,” says Paul Morris, Product Manager. “The modern, straight-forward Global Series tractors are purpose-built for ease of use, cost effective operation and superior reliability without compromising on comfort or performance.” “The latest MF 6700 Series, with a 2.5m wheelbase and 5.2t linkage capacity, now extend these benefits into another sector. “Strong and agile, they make ideal loader tractors, capable of handling heavy loads. “They are also perfect for livestock and mixed farm-

ing enterprises, while their ease of operation and low cost of ownership makes them well-suited to working in fleets on large enterprises, or as the second or third main tractor on big arable farms,” he explains. The MF 4700, MF 5700 and MF 6700 offer an extensive choice of seven models, from 74 – 132 hp, for those requiring a dependable and versatile tractor, which combines uncompromising performance with value for money. “Massey Ferguson customers can now select exactly the right specification and level of sophistication they require. This ensures they can choose the right model to suit their particular needs and budget without making compromises,” he adds. The MF 6700 Series features include: ● Advanced AGCO Power 4.4 litre, four cylinder engines ● 12 x 12 mechanical gearbox developed specifically for the MF 6700 Series with adjustable power shuttle ● Advanced open-centre hydraulic system with tandem pump for 98 l/min combined flow ● Rear linkage operation using proven, modern electronic linkage control (ELC) with linkage arm sensors ● Maximum 5,200 kg lift capacity, handling modern equipment with ease ● Standard independent 540/540E/1000rpm PTO with electro-hydraulic engagement and speed change.

Modern, powerful and efficient engines The MF 6700 Series is powered by the highly efficient AGCO Power 4.4 litre, four-cylinder Tier 2 mechanical injection engine, which provides low cost operation and maintenance with great power and torque delivery. Top cab comfort and control The modern, ergonomic design makes the MF 6700 Series easy to operate, control and assists with automation. Electro-hydraulic activation of the differential lock and 4WD, for example, automatically disengages and activates the systems when the brakes are applied according to speed. An advanced dashboard design presents a mix of analogue and digital displays, showing all essential information in an easy-toread way. It also includes a straightforward performance monitor, which provides information on work rate and area worked, as well as advanced diagnostic capabilities. Controls are grouped logically – with the console on the right housing the throttle lever and mechanical spool valve controls. A small ‘mouse’, designed to fit into the operator’s hand, controls the electronic linkage control (ELC), providing precise and reliable operation and, further back there are a range of sockets to power auxiliary control boxes and equipment. Modern smooth shifting transmission All models in the MF 6700 Series are equipped with the sector’s most modern 12 x

12 synchronised mechanical transmission, offering six synchronised gears in two ranges and a top speed of 40 km/h. Gears are changed effortlessly with the help of an upto-date electro-hydraulic wet clutch system. Direction changes are made simply using the standard Power Shuttle, providing fingertip forward/reverse shifts without using the clutch as well as a button on the gear lever for clutch-less shifting on the go. The gearbox provides seven gears in the important 4-12 km/h field working range and offers a top speed of 40 km/h. A practical overlap of speeds ensures it is possible to pull away with a laden trailer without the need to change ranges. A ‘creeper’ option, providing a 14:1 reduction, further extends the tractor’s versatility. Modern responsive hydraulics A responsive, high pressure gear pump supplies 57 l/min for rear linkage, with a second 41 l/min pump dedicated to the auxiliary spool valves. A separate pump delivers 27 l/min for auxiliary circuits including the steering, 4WD and diff-lock engagement as well as PTO control. When extra flow is required, for example, when using a front end loader, the combined flow system couples the pumps to provide 98 l/min to the auxiliary system. Two double acting spool valves with float are fitted as standard and a third spool with flow divider is optional.

The new MF 6700 Series tractor is the largest and most powerful in the Massey Ferguson Global series. Robust modern rear axle The MF 6700 Series tractors are built for hard work. To meet these demands, they are equipped with the same modern, rugged rear axle as the latest advanced MF 5700 SL Series. The rugged three-point linkage maximum lift capacity of 5,200 kg enables the MF 6700 Series to handle modern implements with ease. Special linkage arm sensors provide accurate and reliable draft and position control through Massey Ferguson’s well proven electronic hitch control (ELC). The heavy duty structural axle design contains new inboard reduction units, which employ epicyclic gears for final speed reduction. These amplify torque to ensure maximum engine

power is transmitted to the ground to maximise traction and performance. Up-to-date Independent PTO A three-speed 540/540E/1000 rpm is fitted as standard. Control is via modern, independent PTO (IPTO) multi-disc clutch, which is engaged electrohydraulically to ‘ease’ the engagement and, as a result, protects the driveline by taking up the drive gradually. The PTO speed is also selected electro-hydraulically from the operator’s seat. The changes occur internally so there is no messing about with oily shafts and no risk of contamination. A transport brake for the PTO is a standard feature on the MF 6700 Series. Unrivalled loader choice The MF 6700 Series make

perfect loader tractors, with the combined flow 98 l/min hydraulic system further improving handling performance. Each model is fully compatible with the five largest models, from the MF 946X or new MF FL4018 upwards in the Massey Ferguson 900X and Massey Ferguson Professional series loader ranges – which are standard with mechanical self-levelling. A range of non-self-levelling loaders are also available for New Zealand which offer a wide choice of lift capacities and reach, as well as control via the integrated Massey Ferguson joystick. A system of excellence to beneficially remove sewage and organic waste from the environment Down on the sunny Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, is a company with a secret. A&A Worm Farm Waste Systems has the key to the World’s Best Worm Driven Sewage and Organic Waste Conversion System. As we become conscious of the damage we have done to our planet, it’s clear that we must adopt practices in our daily living which lessen the impact of our lifestyle on the environment. This can be without any inconvenience and at very little cost to which you attain some big bonuses. All this can be achieved through worms, would you believe? Worms through the good people at A&A Worm Farm Waste Systems. Here’s how it works, the system is simplicity itself. All that happens is that the contents of the toilet, the water from the shower, bath, dishwasher, clothes washer are piped directly to a colony of active compost worms. The A&A system then constantly introduces fresh air into the worm driven processing tank. This design feature keeps the system aerobic (totally different to a septic tank, which is anaerobic), therefore the system has no smell. The worms then turn the solid matter in the sewage with the flush water, shower, washing machine etc, to vermicast. Vermicast is a solution of suspended solid which is broken down into extremely minute particles. It is black and rich in carbon. This is then discharged into the subsurface soil where it will;

- Naturally fertilise the soil - Naturally water and fertilise your garden - Over-time transforms the top layer of soil into an incredibly rich, dark coloured growing medium. The worms, who have a voracious appetite eating at least half their weight daily, can consume and kill harmful bacteria such as e-coli, salmonella and enteric virus in the sewage, making it safe to use. If you have an A&A Worm Farm Waste system, all your organic wastes, weeds from the garden, scraps from the kitchen etc - the organic waste which your Council collects go straight into the processing chamber never to be seen again and cost you and the Council nothing. As of December 2015, there are more than 2000 families in Australia with a trouble-free worm-driven sewage system from A&A Worm Farm, all doing their bit to repair our environment and make it safe for our children. The A&A Worm Farm Waste System is the World’s Best Practice, Fit, Flush and Forget sewage system. Operational cost fitted up to a four bedroom family home is around $20 per year, unless you include a small solar panel, in which case, it costs nothing and is all benefit. Installation is about the same as any other system. To find out more, phone A&A Worm Farm Waste Systems on (03) 5979 1877, or visit them at Farm World. They’ll look after you!

Removing manure from your paddock isn’t exactly everyone’s favourite job. No one likes doing the dirty work. Especially when it comes to cleaning up piles of manure using a bucket and a shovel. Unfortunately, its part and parcel of rearing alpacas. On average, one alpaca will produce 680kg of droppings per year, and with a herd of ten alpacas, that can equate to nearly seven tons of manure every year. That’s why greenPRO created the greenPRO GPV200 Alpaca Bean Vac. Now you can use your quad bike or ride-on mower for effective property maintenance. And it’ll be the last time you’ll need to use a ‘bean scoop’ and wheel barrow. Excessive manure in your paddocks is an eyesore and can cause significant health issues to your animals. If not properly handled,

the eggs and larvae that hatch from them can contaminate pastures, feed or water and infect other animals. Not only will you have well-groomed pastures, they’ll be parasite free. Simply drive beside the manure pile and point the collection nozzle, removing manure and debris in seconds. Your property will not only look amazing, but you’ll remove parasites and pests, all without leaving the comfort of your ATV. You’ll spend less time doing the dirty work, and more time enjoying your animals. Even better, you no longer have to worry about back pain. It’s designed for one-handed operation and with the easy-dump feature, it reduces strain on your back. The collection bin will tip to 60 degrees with ease, so you no longer have to shovel out the debris. You’ll have greener, cleaner pastures in a matter of minutes. The Alpaca Bean Vac can take on a variety of tasks, not only in the paddocks but also around your garden. It transforms into a highpowered leaf blower for all your lawn maintenance needs. It not only tackles manure, but you have a multi-functional tool for removing leaves, tree nuts and pine cones around your property. Continued on page 46.

Come down to site 328 at Farm World for a no-obligation discussion about your customised shed, barn or garage design, as well as discuss any council and building requirements. You’ll also have the opportunity to secure special show pricing if you get an onsite quote at the show and place your deposits within a specified timeframe. Fair Dinkum Sheds feature genuine Australian Colorbond steel cladding and are ShedSafe Accredited, meaning the hard work of ensuring their engineering complies with Australian Standards has been done for you.

Unlike some sellers who simply supply you a kit, they won’t leave you crossing your fingers that you can have your shed built in a timely manner for a fair price. Each Fair Dinkum Sheds distributor has vast experience in designing sheds suitable for storage, production, packing, livestock and machinery. They have the local contacts and knowledge to help you with council approvals and installation if needed. In most cases they are licensed builders and can provide full concreting and construction services themselves. Fair Dinkum Sheds also have their own free Shed Designer App to assist people who may not be able to travel to one of their display sites for a design consultation. Visit www.fairdinkumsheds.com. au/designer to download the app, design your own shed and request a quote.

New technology acts as farmer’s guardian angel With the pressure dairymen face, technology onfarm is fast reaching the point where it’s affordable, efficient and useful at an operational level. Next-generation monitoring technology just released by Daviesway in Australia has already helped more than 350 dairy farms in New

Zealand. Developed by Kiwi company Tag IT Technologies Ltd, “HALO” monitors activities, stores data and alerts farmers via SMS to their mobile phone if there’s a fault. HALO’s hardware and software can monitor a host of areas via sensors connected to a data hub.

Always watching Josh White is Managing Director of Tag IT and grew up on a farm. He says HALO can monitor “anything and everything” from vat cooling, water meters, tank levels, grain levels for re-ordering and milking systems. It can also command and control effluent systems,

and report from weather stations. “It’s always amazed me that farmers get up early, flog their guts out and then walk away and leave that milk in the vat with no one watching it. What if the power goes off, if the chiller tripped out? Do you know the hot wash has gone through? So, we came up with a product that is always watching.” New farmer voice HALO is also giving farmers a voice in a new way. “We had one client where the milk company pinged them because their milk temperature at pick-up was 10 degrees Celsius,” Josh says “We were all wondering how they got the milk out of the vat at that, but that’s what the docket said. The farmer showed them the vat’s temperature history, using HALO, and an apology letter from the milk company followed pretty quickly. “We’ve taken automation from the factory, made it cheap, modular and easy to install and use. The beauty of it is that every bit is expandable and farmers can build on it easily.” The system has been dubbed a farm’s “guardian angel” – with the additional benefit of taking pressure off staff. Remote problem warning Waikato dairy farmer Richard McCullough says it

had changed his life and made taking time off-farm a whole new ball-game. “Being able to go away, and not have to worry about the system breaking down or the chillers not working is fantastic. “You know that if something’s not working that I will get a text, there will be an alarm at the shed, and that one of my workers will also get a text. So, I feel confident that we’ll know if there’s a problem, even if I’m not on the farm to check it someone else will get it, and I can go away and feel a lot more relaxed about the farm.” Constant checking Numurkah dairy farmer Anthony McLean runs two herds on adjoining properties in northern Victoria. With a herd of 250 cows, and a second dairy milking 200 cows, keeping abreast of operations can be challenging. Last summer they were struggling with their vat cooling systems tripping out when summer temperatures edged over 35 degrees Celsius. “We always knew we had to check the vat through the hot weather,” Anthony says. “We hadn’t lost a vat before, but it was a conscious effort. With the HALO system, it was just a load off our mind. And I’ve been able to monitor things remotely on the second farm without getting on the

The system is modular and can be built on to include alerts and data storage for effluent pond control, irrigation, water meters, grain levels – in addition to other applications. motorbike and going to have a look. It’s great from that perspective.” They haven’t lost any vats of milk since installing the HALO technology. “I’ve been able to monitor things remotely on the second farm without getting on the motorbike and going to have a look” Anthony McLean, Numurkah, Victoria. Affordable tech On a 10,000-litre vat, based on a NZ$4.75 milk

solids payout, saving a single vat of milk using HALO was worth NZ$3800; on a NZ$5.75 payout, that saving jumped to NZ$4600. Josh says sharing HALO with Australian dairy farmers through Daviesway is exciting. “We make technical products, and to find a dealer that embraces it and sees the same future as we do is exciting. Everything we do is to help farmers get milk safely into the vat.”

Demand for our high value dairy products continues to grow and with our recent plant upgrades now commissioned and further investment planned for our manufacturing site in Korumburra, we are proud to bring continued growth and economic development to the Gippsland region. As our company continues to grow, so too does our need for quality milk and we are seeking more Gippsland based Milk Supply Partners to join us. If you want transparent pricing tailored to Gippsland supply curves, honest communication and a desire to be part of a growing company that values a sustainable supply chain, contact Burra Foods today.

The BIG Gippsland Jersey Milk Off at Farm World The BIG Gippsland Jersey Milk off will return to Farm World in 2018 after a hugely successful launch last year. The concept is simple… It’s a Hand Milking competition - One hand - One teat - One minute. The contestant who can extract the most milk within one minute wins the ‘Milk OFF’ trophy. The hook lies with the contestants, as these are not your run-of-the-mill dairy farmers… you’re going to see everyone from Councillors and Media Representatives to Politicians, Bankers, Foodies and Baristas, fighting it out against their contemporaries for the glory of the Milk Off trophy. This was a huge crowd favourite last year and will once again be a solid feature throughout Farm World. Alongside the crowdpleasing hilarity of the BIG Gippsland Jersey Milk Off, there will also be displays educating the crowd on the history of the dairy industry, and the contribution it makes to both the local

Rotunda with plenty of colour and theatrical entertainment and loads of friendly rivalry amongst all who compete.

On a more serious note, make sure whilst you’re at the Rotunda that you check out the fabulous Dairy Farmer Calendar which is

being launched at Farm World. Gippsland Jersey has gathered the stories of twelve Gippsland Dairy Farmers, who’ve been very brave in putting up their hand to tell their mental health journey. The aim of the calendar is to work on destigmatising mental health in rural areas and to highlight the services available for those in need. 1400 calendars will be distributed via tanker drop to every dairy farmer in Gippsland including the help numbers of health service providers and support agencies. The calendar farmers will officially kick off the ‘Big Gippsland Jersey Milk OFF’ on Thursday at 10.30am in the Rotunda so make sure you are there to cheer them on and show your support. Information and ticketing for Farm World and functions are available online now at lardnerpark.com.au, purchase ahead and save both money and time at the gate!

The State and Federal Nationals team is pleased to be in Gippsland again in 2018 for Farm World at Lardner Park. It’s been a busy year for Gippsland farmers, marked by dry conditions since January and, at the time of writing, many are holding out hope for a good autumn break in coming weeks. The Victorian Nationals team will be joined by Federal Victorian representatives Deputy Leader of The Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie and Member for Gippsland Darren Chester at Lardner Park this year. Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh said The Nationals in Victoria were firmly focused on delivering a better deal for our farmers and regional communities. In the past 12 months, The Nationals have supported the Heyfield community through the fight to retain jobs and investment in the community, after Labor cut supply to the Heyfield timber mill. More recently, the Victorian Nationals have announced $633 million for new trains for country Victoria to replace old rolling stock with new generation, faster, comfortable and reliable trains, if elected at the November State Election. We’ve also committed to working with hunting groups and pet food processors to make the kangaroo pet food trial permanent and expand it to include deer, if elected. “Expanding Victoria’s pet food industry to include deer meat makes sense because it makes productive use of hunted deer that may otherwise go to waste and it also supports jobs and investment in our hunting and pet food processing sectors,” Mr Walsh said. “Daniel Andrews is standing in the way of new regional industry because he is scared of growing support for the Greens in Labor’s inner-city electorates. “Only the Liberal Nationals support our hunters and will give our pet food processors investment certainty by making the kangaroo pet food trial permanent and expanding the program to include deer.” The Nationals have also pledged $2 million to support Victorian farmers’ markets and will cut red tape for small food producers, if a Liberal Nationals government is elected in November. Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said farmers’ markets are an important part of our community, providing a place for small food producers to sell direct to the community. “Across my electorate of Gippsland South, we have many fantastic farmers’ markets including Sale, Foster, Koonwarra, Leongatha and Korumburra to name a few,” Mr O’Brien said. “Farmers’ markets promote locally sourced and grown produce, generating jobs and investment in our local small food producers and through increased tourism.” Mr O’Brien said a Liberal Nationals’ government would also work with small food producers to cut red tape. “Our small producers have a reputation for providing high quality, delicious, locally made goods but red tape is making it harder for them to do business,” Mr O’Brien said. Communities along East Gippsland’s border with New South Wales will also benefit from the services of a dedicated Cross Border Commissioner, under an elected Liberal Nationals government. Gippsland East Nationals MP Tim Bull said people living and working in East Gippsland’s border communities near New South Wales faced unique problems. “It means our tradespeople have to get two separate licences to operate their business, while farmers and transport operators require two separate permits to move agricultural equipment,” Mr Bull said. “A common cross-border issue people speak to me about is the need for two fishing licences. It also makes it harder for police and emergency services to share the information they need to do their job. “Divided jurisdiction on cross border school bus routes and inconsistencies with cross border areas served by telcos are further examples. “An elected Liberal Nationals government will ensure our communities have a dedicated Cross Border Commissioner based in regional Victoria to identify and solve these problems.” Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath said a common frustrating problem across the Gippsland community was the terrible condition of country roads. When the Andrews Labor Government axed the former Liberal Nationals government’s Country Roads and Bridges program, it left local councils without a key source of funds for ongoing maintenance and upgrades of local priorities. More recently, much angst has been caused by the government’s hurried and botched roll-out of wire rope barriers on a number of major highways. “The Liberal Nationals have said we will halt this process and review it, if elected in November,” Ms Bath said. “We’re not opposed to wire rope barriers as a legitimate safety measure, but the Andrews Labor Government has botched the rollout.” Ms Bath said while failing to maintain country roads, Daniel Andrews had failed to invest the full amount promised for new regional Victorian transport infrastructure after the $9.7 billion leasing of the Port of Melbourne. “The Andrews Labor Government has ripped off regional Victorians,” Ms Bath said. “Premier for Melbourne Daniel Andrews owes regional Victoria $723 million – and a massive apology. “The Nationals will continue to fight to ensure regional Victorians get a fair share and have the reliable and well-maintained infrastructure we deserve.” Connectivity in all its forms is critical to the economic growth and prosperity of regional Victoria. Whether it’s roads, rail lines, seaport and airport upgrades or mobile phone and NBN investments, the ability to stay connected will underpin future job opportunities and the social life of our communities. Federal Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said good connectivity allowed businesses to grow, including the agricultural sector, and made our towns an attractive option for locals, tourists and people seeking a better lifestyle. “In the past two years, the Federal Government has been able to secure agreement for several billions of dollars of airport and regional road and rail upgrades in Victoria, but there’s a lot more to be done,” he said. While decentralisation of public servants is a good start, it will be private businesses expanding or moving to regional areas that will create the most jobs. “They will only make those decisions if regional towns are well connected to each other, to our capital cities and to world markets,” Mr Chester said. “As people who are passionate about regional Victoria, we need to use that connectivity to sell a positive message about life outside the city. “And our belief in our communities needs to be backed up with strategic government investment that makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

Halo at Ellinbank Ellinbank Research facility, just outside of Warragul in Gippsland, will be the site for the first major Halo installation in Australia. Although Halo is currently monitoring a number of milk vats in Australia, the Ellinbank site will monitor many aspects of the farm operation. As well as monitoring the temperature of the milk in the vat, we will also be monitoring the volume of milk in the two vats. If the milk temperature moves outside a set of programmed parameters, a text alert will be sent to those specified for action. As Ellinbank conduct many different trials, being able to easily gather volume data on a per herd / milking / day basis can be a powerful tool for research results.

The other major aspect of the facility being monitored are five grain silos and a liquid additive bulk storage container. As well as silo volume, we will be able to monitor usage. Alarms will be sent via text if feed is not being used at the expected rate, or if too much is being used. Naturally from a trial perspective, this data is essential, knowing all systems are operating and dispensing correctly at all times. As well as gathering raw data and sending alerts, the Halo system has a powerful data graphing and trend component. With a few clicks through the intuitive menus you can see data trends over the life of the installation. This can be a powerful tool for analysing trends and changes.

Farm World 2018

Share the Alpaca passion We invite you to the Lakeside Pavilion at Farm World Lardner Park from 12th to 15th April 2018. You will find several very passionate registered alpaca owners, with trade stands full of wonderful alpaca products and - YES – the awe-inspiring animals themselves. There will be both huacaya and suri alpacas, and a variety of the outstanding natural colours represented. The breeders, who have years of experience in the various aspects of the alpaca industry, will be willing to demonstrate the benefits and joy of alpaca ownership. You are welcome to sit and talk to the breeders to

determine your requirements and options. Alpacas make wonderful pets, are ideally suited to small acre farming, can be used as herd guards for sheep, chooks etc or, on a larger scale, can be the foundation of a successful business based on highly sought after low micron fleece production or specific commercial breeding for lean, nutritious and flavoursome meat. A number of very experienced spinners and felters will also be holding demonstrations over the four days, offering the opportunity to answer all fleece craft questions. There really is something for everyone to enjoy and learn. Come and wonder at

the amazing animals, snap a photo, feel the fabulous fleece, learn about its properties and touch garments produced from what has been described as the ‘fibre of the gods.’ Perhaps spoil yourself by purchasing a touch of luxury. Bring the children to participate in our “Colour an Alpaca” Competition and see the many alpaca toys and books suited to their age group. There will also be a Lucky Draw running for the four days. Tickets will be handed out by the exhibitors and there is a range of beautiful alpaca products available as prizes. Winning tickets will be drawn at 2pm on Sunday 15th April.

We have been a boarding school since we first opened our doors in 1878. Today, we accommodate 76 boarders in two distinct houses. The size and actual location of the houses is significant. They are centrally located at the very heart of the campus and we are committed to keeping our numbers low. This means we know every student and every family.
