MR. MICHAEL MARTELL DIRECTOR OF FINE ARTS / BAND DIRECTOR

My name is Michael Martell and it is my honor to serve as the Director of Fine Arts and Band Director at Calvary Christian High School. I have been involved with Christian education both as a student and as a teacher for as long as I can remember and I am passionate about Christian education because of the impact it has had on my life. I have served at Calvary since the 2011–2012 school year. Prior to my time at Calvary, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from Clearwater Christian College and in 2017 I earned my Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida. It is my joy to lead and serve alongside our talented fine arts faculty as we seek to provide students with a college preparatory fine arts education rooted in a Christian worldview. In our fine arts department, discovering God’s truth and worshipping Him through artistic expression is a core value. Although receiving recognition for an outstanding performance or product is an encouragement to our students, it is not the highest aim of our department. Rather, our goal is to use the arts as a means of worshipping God and furthering His kingdom. This goal stems from Matthew 6:33 which says “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” It is our hope that you will consider joining us as we seek to use the arts to bring glory to our Creator

“The mission of the Fine Arts Department at Calvary Christian High School is to provide a challenging college preparatory fine arts education that inspires and equips students to become lifelong practitioners and patrons of the arts, rooted in a Christian worldview.

IN THE CLASSROOM Calvary students have many fine arts courses to choose from including Visual Art, Marching/Concert Band, Choir, Dance, Drama, Yearbook, and Creative Writing. Additionally, our fine arts faculty offers a wealth of experience to our students who are interested in studying the arts at the college level. With their diverse backgrounds, our fine arts faculty is able to successfully prepare students for college auditions and portfolio submissions. Our fine arts faculty members hold degrees from a variety of post-secondary institutions including state universities, Christian colleges, and conservatories. With this diversity of post-secondary experiences, our faculty is well-equipped to help students find the best place to study the arts at the college level

OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM CCHS fine arts students have the opportunity to be a part of the Warrior Marching Band, Calvary Choir, Fall Play, Spring Musical, Christmas Concert, and Worship Team. The best of our Visual Art students’ work is displayed in our Ruach Art Gallery throughout the year. Learning to take informed risks and being inventive in making images and objects are central to the program. Additionally, she was an intern and employed by PBA’s marketing department. In this role she wrote articles and photographed various events. Ms. Fry has been photographer for many years and she is very passionate about all areas of fine arts

SCRIPTURE

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6–8. This passage means a lot to me because it shows that even though we are all imperfect and powerless, Christ chose to love us and die for us. Even when people hurt us, we should have this mindset as we go through life. We should always choose love.

RUACH GALLERY RUACH GALLERY is a 1000 sq. ft. space located on the third floor of Calvary Christian High School. The gallery exists for students to learn valuable lessons through exhibiting their work and hosting guest artist exhibitions. Ruach Gallery serves the community by offering local, emerging, and established artists a place to exhibit. Ruach, a dynamic Hebrew word, literally means spirit, wind or breath as it relates to the Creator God who powerfully and actively filled all living creatures with His breath of life. Ruach does not exist outside of God. It is our desire to honor and please the Creator through our own creations. It is the Ruach that enables us to participate in that creative process. This gallery shows artwork created through Ruach to honor our Creator God.

The mission of the Fine Arts Department at Calvary Christian High School is to provide a challenging college preparatory fine arts education that inspires and equips students to become lifelong practitioners and patrons of the arts, rooted in a Christian worldview.
