From the Director of Fine Arts Welcome to the Calvary Christian High School 2022 spring musical, Mary Poppins! On behalf of all of the students, staff, and volunteers involved with the production, we are so glad that you are here! The CCHS Fine Arts Mission Statement emphasizes the importance of providing college preparatory fine arts opportunities that are rooted in a Christian worldview, and presenting a full length Broadway style musical is just one of the many college preparatory fine arts opportunities offered at CCHS. Regardless of the artistic discipline, our fine arts teachers seek to help students to pursue artistic excellence, to learn how God’s truth is revealed through artistic expression, and to learn how they can use the artistic gifts God has given them for His glory. Being able to present a production of this magnitude does not happen without the hard work and dedication of our talented students, the faithful service of our volunteers, the outstanding leadership of our directors, and the tremendous support of our Head of School, Mr. David Kilgore. There are so many individuals who have given a considerable amount of time, talent, and treasure to help the musical be a success and we are grateful for each of them, but I want to especially acknowledge the leadership of our Musical Director and Choreographer, Ms. Karah Rushing, and our Music Director, Mr. Brandon Martell. I am honored to work alongside them as they share their time and exceptional talent in the performing arts to help our students perform their very best for God’s glory. Congratulations to all of our talented students participating in today’s performance! We hope you enjoy the show! Mr. Michael Martell – Director of Fine Arts
From the Director of Mary Poppins “Stretch your mind beyond fantastic, dreams are made of strong elastic! Go and chase your dreams, you won’t regret it. Anything can happen if you let it!” Honored guest, welcome! The musical which you are about to see invites you into the troubled home of the Banks’ family in London, England, 1910, as imagined by the original story writer, P.L. Travers. This magical tale highlights the power of simple acts of kindness to fill a life with joy, satisfaction, and meaning. This theme has resonated with movie-making creatives who have developed several adaptations which most of you have enjoyed through the years. We pray that this musical adaptation will bless you and point you to truer beauty. Although spoonfuls of sugar, umbrellas, chimney sweeps, and kites do not in reality hold the power to unite families, combat loneliness, and reveal innate beauty in people and situations, the Holy Spirit of God does. If you are a follower of Jesus, I pray that this musical will inspire you to embrace the power that has been entrusted to you and make a difference in this world for the glory of God. Remember, brothers and sisters, that “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3, NIV). It has been a joy to work with this incredible cast, orchestra, and tech crew. This production is the culmination of months of hard work from the students you see on stage as well as countless hours selflessly given by wonderful volunteers. I am unendingly grateful to our Good Father, creative God who has endowed these students with unique and precious talents and a desire to submit their passion for the arts as an offering back to Him. Thank you to Mr. Kilgore, Mr. Michael Martell, and Calvary Church for consistently supporting the CCHS Drama and Dance Department. Thank you also to Mr. Brandon Martell, Dr. Wenzel, Ms. Mulder, Mr. Pettit, Mr. Ray, Ms. Fry, and every other volunteer for investing your creative gifts into this production and humbly giving of your time and resources on behalf of the students. Finally, thank you to my family and dear friends for your faithful support, prayer, and encouragement. Enjoy the show! Ms. Karah Rushing – CCHS Director of Drama and Dance
