THE GARDENS OF CENTRAL PARK The Gardens of Central Park are the culmination of Robert and Roma Maishs’ dream to create a perennial garden for all the people in Kosciusko County and its visitors. Containing a wide variety of over 160 perennial flowers, shrubs and grasses, the gardens are a gift to the community through an endowment fund established by the Maishs’ through the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. Open April through October. Come stroll the cobble-like pathways of the garden to experience colorful blossoms, stately grasses and bushes, and the fish that swim in the garden’s pond. The gardens are accessible to all who wish to visit. For more information contact the Kosciusko County Community Foundation at 574-267-1901.
WARSAW BIBLICAL GARDENS Plants perform a vital role in the Bible. It is with a garden that the Bible begins, and it ends with a vision of trees bearing fruit. The Bible is a book of Gardens. The gardens have been planted with every effort made to achieve botanical and historical accuracy. References especially helpful in the planning of the gardens were Plants of the Bible by Harold and Alma Molenke and Planting a Bible Garden by F. Nigel Hepper. The gardens, situated on approximately 3/4 acre, currently contain over 100 plants that are named in the Bible. A diversity of climates can be found in the Holy Land, which allows for most of its plants to be grown somewhere in the U.S. These gardens represent those plants hardy enough to the environs of the Midwest to survive here. Several tender plants that are grown in the gardens are wintered in greenhouses from October to April. For more information contact the WCDC at 574-267-6419.
