The year is cracking along and it has been busy here in the art world despite a slow economy. Alexander Bartleet’s recent show was quite a stand out and it was no surprise he was a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards in September. His work “Ground Level” has been included in the touring show and there will be a feature article on his work in an upcoming "Art New Zealand" magazine. Fatu Feu’u’s book launch was a momentous occasion with 200 people packing the Gallery on Tuesday night. Heartfelt speeches were made by the author Shona Jennings and Professor of Fine Arts Elam, Jonathan Mane-Wheoki.

Rozi is further developing her style of detailed surrealist figures while depicting evocative nude studies in her unique enigmatic way. These new paintings are exquisite and not to be missed if you are a Rozi Demant fan.

Almost two years ago New Holland Publishers contracted Warwick Henderson to write a comprehensive book on the New Zealand art market. The release date is mid-October; however a book launch with guest speakers Hamish Keith and Ron Brownson will be a feature of “Artweek” Auckland on Sunday 28th October. This much awaited book while nicely illustrated with 100 illustrations is largely text based with over 70,000 words charting the complete history of the New Zealand art market.With over 30 years’ experience in the industry Warwick discusses the ins and outs of the art market, with chapters on buying, selling, around the galleries, art investment, care and conservation of artworks, art at auction, advice for artists, fakes and forgeries, together with some amusing anecdotes encountered during his career. New Holland Publisher Christine Thomson says “It is the first book of this nature to be published in New Zealand and we think it will be very well received. I couldn’t put the book down”.
