MARCH NEWSLETTER 2008

Warwick Henderson Gallery March Newsletter 2008 Welcome to our March 2008 Newsletter The long summer continues and Auckland has never looked so brown. We are finally having a summer we keep telling the children we used to get. Maybe it was only once! Anyway now everyone is tired of the beach, time to head back to the galleries to see what is new for 2008. We have a full book of exhibitions for the year including several new artists to the Gallery, such as Viky Garden and Annette Isbey. The exhibition schedule for 2008 includes Grant Corbishley "New Works", Justin Summerton “Oasis”, Eion Stevens (Auckland book launch of ‘Painted Poems’), Annette Isbey, Viky Garden, Liam Barr, Nigel Brown, Nick Wall, April Shin, and other shows to be confirmed. Grant Corbishley – “New Works” Opens Wednesday 5th March to Saturday 15th March Please note for a change, the opening will be 12pm Wednesday. Why not come to Parnell for lunch at one of Parnell’s great cafe’s before or after the viewing. Free lunch voucher for all purchasers on Wednesday - See there is no such thing as a free lunch! Grant’s show takes a new and interesting direction where Grant has completed a figurative series of works. One of the works in this series was a Wallace Art Awards finalist last year. It is several years since Grant has mounted a one-man show in Auckland.

Forward Events Justin Summerton “Oasis” 18th March to 5th April - Preview Tuesday 17th March 5.30 - 7.30pm Justin Summerton has achieved a powerful return with a stunning show of 10 new works which have taken almost one and half years to complete. Justin explains the background to this up coming exhibition. “An Oasis is a fertile spot in the desert. Like when you come up with an idea after a long creative block. An island is a piece of land surrounded by water. I guess both an oasis and an island are places you would want to get to. They embody a feeling of security, salvation, peace. Symbolically they could both represent individuality. In the Oasis painting the original concept was to have a brown desolate wasteland, much like Australia, with a lush oasis in the middle. It somehow became more green, the shapes in the puddles near the round pool contain some narrative. One of them is shaped like a cross, and another like a figure. I want to covey the quest for an oasis theme here”. Justin with Lemming Syndrome II
