A Fresh Start - AGM (Spring 2014) In this issue:  AGM (Spring 2014)  CNY Dinner  Production 2014: BOOM  Meet the EXCO  Graduation Dinner  Generation Games

On 9th March 2014, the annual Spring Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Warwick Singsoc was held on campus. It was attended by over 100 enthusiastic members seeking the latest updates on developments in the society, as well as to cast their votes in the Executive Committee (EXCO) 2014/2015 elections. Following a video presentation and speech by President Sia Chen Yang, Treasurer Timothy Tan gave members an update on the financial accounts of the society. This was followed by voting on amendments to the Constitution, and the election of the incoming President, VicePresident, Secretary and Treasurer. Amendments to the Constitution

included a change to the voting rules of the society, as well as changes to the job scope of the Media Officer. In order to complete the electoral process and vote in the remaining members of the EXCO (Cultural, Events, Media, PR & Sports Officers), an Extraordinary General Meeting was called the next day (10th March 2014). Overall, members were able to show their care for the Society by engaging enthusiastically in the democratic process, and bond with other likeminded peers, regardless of batch or course. Be sure to find out more about the new EXCO elsewhere in this issue!

Horsing Around - CNY 2014 Chinese New Year Dinner this year was held on 1st February, at Copthorne Hotel, Birmingham, in conjunction with the Birmingham Singapore Society. Members of both societies enjoyed the traditional 'Yu Sheng' salad (purportedly hand-carried to the hotel from Chinatown), followed by several Asian-inspired dishes. Besides enjoying the company of old friends and new, participants were

also called up to take part in entertaining games such as boat races and a chopstick agility challenge. Definitely a great way to celebrate the passing of the Lunar New Year.

BOOM BOOM BOOM - Production 2014 mother and her property agent son challenged with the potential en-bloc sale of their home unfolds. Sucked inexorably into their narrative is the tale of Ivan, an atypical civil servant, who faces the seemingly impossible task of relocating a corpse... against his will.

“...a truly Singaporean story about the

Starring Dominic Nah (Boon), Samantha Ong (his mother), Elliot Choo (Ivan, the civil servant) and Werty Heng (the corpse), Production 2014 also included an ensemble of supporting cast ranging from old pros to first-time thespians, all brought together by Acting Coach Felix Lee. The show would also not have been possible without a laundry list of supporting crew (coordinated by Stage Manager Terence Tang), technicians and production team.

constant pursuit of wealth in a society consumed by the march of progress”

One of the most anticipated and popular annual events is the theatre production, and this year was no exception. Produced by Sia Chen Yang and directed by Anisha Primalani, the script chosen this year was Jean Tay’s ‘Boom’: Set in tiny Singapore, where space is at a premium and property prices mind-boggling, the story of a stubborn

Despite all the blood, sweat and (artificial) trees, our team’s work paid off when they performed for a few-hundred strong audience in the Warwick Arts Centre on the 6th of March, all of whom enjoyed the show tremendously. The cast, crew and audience alike also went wild at the traditional after-party, held at the Altoria VIP room this year. Definitely a night to remember!

A Last Huzzah! - Grad Dinner 2014 All good things must come to an end, and so too must our time here at Warwick. It was thus a bitter-sweet occasion when our finalists for the year, the Class of 2014, united as one to celebrate the impending end of their university education and time together. Held on the 14th of March at the Episode Hotel in Leamington Spa, the 2014 Graduation Dinner was a chance for the graduating class to dress to the nines and strut their

Beginning early on a Saturday, the crowd grew throughout the morning, with freshers and seniors alike enjoying snacks and refreshments while watching the Fresher and Senior teams battling it out in Captain's Ball, Basketball, Netball, Frisbee and Soccer. Despite having the odds stacked against them, the newest members of the Warwick Singsoc family fought hard on every front, losing by only a point or two in some matches, while managing to harry the Seniors into a tie in one of their strongest sports. Ultimately, all participants and supporters came together to take a well-deserved break from frantic revision, and to get to
