THE CREATIVE WARWICK REVISION GUIDE

Creative Warwick Weeks: Mind | 22-30 April (Week 1) Natural World | 6-14 May (Week 3) Performance | 17-25 June (Week 9)

THE CREATIVE MANIFESTO BE CREATIVE IN ALL THAT YOU DO.

TRUST THE UNEXPECTED. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN.

BE YOURSELF NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY. YOU'LL NEVER BE SOMEONE ELSE.

MISTAKES ARE PART OF THE PROCESS.

IF EVERYTHING HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE, TRY DOING IT EVEN BETTER.

IT ALWAYS SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE UNTIL IT'S DONE.

BE WILLING TO CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE.

REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE CREATED TO CREATE.

HOW TO REVISE EFFECTIVELY 1.

MAKE A LIST

2.

Making lists helps us to stay organised and keep track of all our tasks. Checking off revision topics as you go gives a great sense of accomplishment!

3.

FLASH CARDS Flash cards are very popular and are a brilliant way to memorise definitions and processes. Memory testing with flash cards is also a fun way to revise with others.

MIND MAPS Mind maps are a brilliant tool for more visual learners. They are a useful and interesting way to store information.

4.

FLOW DIAGRAMS Flow diagrams are one of the most clear and creative ways to get down information. They help you to see the 'big picture'.

5.

6.

ROUTINE Don't wait until the night before an exam to tell yourself that you'll have an early night - get into the routine as soon as possible! Make a revision timetable and plan your meals, breaks and sleeping pattern.

7.

Some people will prefer silence for revision but there are many of us who need some musical accompaniment. Try making an hour long playlist to help regulate your revision time, it might prevent you from checking your phone for the time and getting distracted. If you get distracted by songs because you can't help singing along, try listening to instrumental or orchestral music.

DECORATION Aesthetically pleasing notes with splashes of colour and doodles can help us with memorising!

8.

9.

MEMORY GAMES Try out creative memory techniques to find which one works for you! Make acronyms, write songs or draw pictures.

10.

MUSIC

QUIZ NIGHTS Sometimes the best way to get ideas and concepts ingrained is to have revision sessions with friends. Test each other and have a go at past papers together.

TREAT YO'SELF No matter what revision techniques you put to use, make sure you make time for yourself. Whether you need sweets, a cycle ride, naps or a bit of retail therapy - don't feel guilty about treating yourself.

EACH ONE OF US IS BORN WITH CREATIVITY. - MAYA ANGELOU

STEM to STEAM WHY HALF IS NOT ENOUGH At some point in your life you were probably told that you are either 'right-brained' or 'left-brained'. This dichotomy encourages us to think that we cannot possibly be both analytical and creative. Recently there has been a significant growth in what is known as the STEAM movement. This movement recognises the important of introducing the Arts to the traditional STEM framework.

A combination of creativity and technical skills has a proven track record when we consider successes such as Steve Jobs (Founder of Apple), Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo) and Albert Einstein.

Royal Holloway’s Professor Kate Normington has highlighted how Leonardo da Vinci brought the sciences and arts together in Renaissance Italy. She said: “It appears that, even within contemporary times, those at the forefront of innovation have been merging arts and science practice. Pomeroy notes that ‘Nobel laureates in the sciences are seventeen times likelier than the average scientist to be a painter, twelve times as likely to be a poet, and four times as likely to be a musician’,” making reference to the works of science news writer, Steven Ross Pomeroy.
