so, it’s Week 9 already! bet you’re amazed at how fast the first term has flown by - i know i am! Varsity XXi is coming. for the 21st year running we’ll be hoping to smash our local (ex-poly) rivals at Coventry ‘university’ with defeats they deserve in over 30 sports. last year was the closest we have ever come to a defeat, with the scores tied going in to the last game - the finale at butts park arena, Coventry - but Warwick eventually walked away 36-34 winners. this year’s Varsity is going to be bigger & better than ever before. the action kicks off at the end of January with ice hockey at planet ice. the anticipation will grow with netball and basketball matches played in mid february, and the series culminates on Wednesday Week 10, term 2, when over 30 teams will do battle with Coventry, finishing with the epic football finale staged at butts park arena hopefully this year we’ll have the overall victory sewn up before we all head down to butts, though! news in brief ents survey - we need you! We always strive to make the Union’s services the best they can be, but we can’t do this without your feedback, help and input. With this in mind, we’re currently running an online survey about the SU’s Entertainments Programme to find out what you think of our night-time events.

We’re also giving you the opportunity to tell us who you’d like to see perform at this year’s Summer Party (though perhaps not, as someone suggested, ‘Mumpkin and Sons’. Or Oasis. They’ve split up, you know…) The survey should take less than 10 minutes to fill out, and all constructive feedback is welcome! We need as many responses as possible to be able to gauge your opinions, so please get as many of your friends to fill it out as possible. It’s your Union - be a part of it! strictly come dancing at warwick - 2nd december 10 couples representing different sports clubs from all over campus have trained hard to pull off some truly show-stopping routines. With dances including the waltz, the cha cha, the quickstep, the samba, the tango, the jive and the paso doble, you can be assured of a great range of entertainment! The judges will only decide half of the final scores, the rest being decided by the enthusiasm and support of the audience. As Brucee would say, it’ll be nice to see you, to see you nice! All proceeds go to the READ literacy charity, based at Warwick.
Thinking about housing for next year? Just RELAX - you don’t need to be thinking about housing this early! There’s plenty of time. It doesn’t matter if the flat next to you is rushing like mad - it just means they’re more likely to end up in a worse house and paying too much money, in comparison with what you’ll end up with if you wait until at least the middle of Term 2. ‘iiiiiiiiiiiit’s chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiistmaaaaaaaas…!’ at your union Yes, it’s that time of year when Noddy Holder crawls out of the woodwork, Home Alone pops up on telly and Christmas Specials that were blatantly filmed in mid-June bring the ‘festive’ spirit. But while everyone runs around the shops like headless chickens, here at the Union we’d much rather you treat yourself. Take a look at what we’ve got coming up in the next two weeks to get you in that holiday mood… In addition to the amazing Christmas Ball in Week 10 (featuring an ice rink, real reindeer, prezzies, snow and much more - see overleaf for more info!), our food and beverage outlets have loads of special treats on offer.

policy of the fortnight policy 699 – freshers/induction week Unlike a lot of UK Universities, Warwick doesn’t have a Freshers Week at the start of the year without academic commitments - prompting the Sabb team in 2008/09 to write this policy. It argues that a Freshers Week should be combined with Orientation Week to help all students settle in, socialise and make friends as well as get involved with societies and sports clubs.
