intro • news in brief • well that’s term 1 over, then...

Ho ho hello! Wow, what a few weeks! From RAG Week and Pride Week to the General Meeting and of course Skool Dayz, there’s no denying that it’s been a hectic term. As the nights draw in and deadlines pass, why not join us in our outlets as we celebrate Christmas in style (if you haven’t tried the festive menus you are genuinely missing out!) and be sure to come to the Christmas Ball where the Atrium will transform in front of your eyes! This week, we’re calling on you to tell us how your student life could be better – got something you want to get off your chest? Well, rant about it! RANT week is your chance to tell us how the SU, University and local area could be better. Once we have a chance to compile all your gripes, us Sabbs will take a look at what you have to say and work out what we can do about it. Make sure you fill in a RANT card, comment online or drop us an email – more details on the next page.

news in brief su general meeting The SU General Meeting took place last Tuesday in MS.02, with all Warwick students welcome to come along and have their say on a range of issues. With over 300 people attending (and another 500 tuning in online!) there was plenty of debate and lots of motions passed. For more information on how it all unfolded, please visit www.warwicksu.com. Don’t forget that it’s your Union – if you want to change something, it’s up to you to get involved and make sure your voice is heard!

big band freshers gig

monday week 10

The University Big Band will showcase their new-found Fresher talent in an evening of live music on Monday 5th December in The Copper Rooms. With a number of carefully-selected guest acts also appearing, this promises to be one of the best evenings of live music on campus this year! The evening will climax with the dangerously funky ‘Groovitive’, an 8-piece funk band performing popular and classic tunes. We dare you to not dance to this! Tickets: £3 (£2 for Big Band members) | Available to buy on the door.

christmas carol services

week 10

There will be a special Christmas Carol Service taking place in the Chaplaincy on Monday 5th December at 5:15pm – festive refreshments will be served and everyone’s welcome!

Finally, I just wanted to wish you all a very happy (and restful) holiday. If you think Term 1 was good, just wait to see what we’ve got in store for you…

Warwick Christian Union will also be taking part in the Coventry and Warwickshire Carol Service from 7pm the following night at Coventry Cathedral – again, it’s free entry and open to all.

well that’s term 1 over, then... Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?! We hope you’ve all enjoyed it as much as we have, and that all you Freshers now feel completely at home here at Warwick. Don’t forget that if you’re ever feeling stressed out, our Advice & Welfare Team are here to help – either pop into SUHQ or email advice@warwicksu.com! We’ve uploaded stacks of photos from this term’s events over at our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/warwicksu) – head on over and tag yourself to relive those no-doubt fairly hazy memories!

GOT SOMETHING TO SAY..

.?

Got something you want to get off your chest? Want to have a moan? Well, in Week 10 we’re asking you to have a rant about it. We’re here to try to make your time at University the best it can be, so to help us make the biggest difference we can, we need you to tell us what your biggest gripes are. Think there’s no point? Think we won’t be able to make any difference? As your elected Officers, the Sabbatical team can make change happen in your Union and can lobby the University to make a difference.

spank’s photoshop challenge! That cheeky Top B monkey, Spank, gets everywhere these days. When he’s not busy scouting the venue for talent on a Friday night or lazing in bed watching Cher Lloyd videos on Youtube (he just loves her shell-suits), he can often be found saving the world from evil wrong-doers. Take, for instance, this sterling piece of Photoshopping from SU Ents Rep Jonathan Higgs. They took his bananas. He will hunt them. He will find them. And he will kill them. We’re now opening this challenge up to you, the student body. Can you Photoshop Spank into a famous film poster? The funnier the better – we’ll publish the best entries online and we’ll even give away a FREE CHRISTMAS BALL TICKET to our favourite! If you’re stuck for an image of the great chimp, add s.p.Ank TheMonkey as a friend on Facebook and peruse his mug’s gallery! Email your entry, name, student number and contact details to ents@warwicksu.com before 4pm on Wednesday 7th December (Week 10) to be in with a shout!

you say... i don’t agree with the union’s democratic decisions!

we say... Get involved, then! It’s your Union, so it’s up to you to make sure you participate. Head to www.warwicksu.com/democracy to find out about all the available opportunities.

you say... we want a quiet study space off-campus!

we say... home grown ideas taster session recruitment – are you outside the box? For the second time in history, TEDxWarwick will be holding its own Home Grown Ideas Taster Session in Term 2, Week 2. The aim is simple: to find at least five speakers amongst Warwick students with innovative, inspiring and mind-blowing ideas! Do you think you are outside the box? Apply for Home Grown Ideas Taster Session, give a speech of maximum 7 minutes in which you introduce your idea, project or research and be in with a chance to win prizes, discuss your idea on SIBE Monday Live and even get published! To apply, write your name, course and a brief (250-300 word) description of your idea and email it to barbora.adlerova@tedxwarwick.com to get your 15 minutes of fame! Deadline: Friday 16th December

You’re in luck – the University are developing plans for a student-only study space in Leamington as we speak. Keep your open peeled for more details when we have them!
