I still can’t believe it’s Week 5 already! Term 2 really does fly by. We hope you enjoyed the spectacle that was One World Week last week – those guys really know how to put on a show! As per usual, Week 5 marks the opening of nominations for the SU Officer Elections, in which the candidates elected become the officers who run your Students’ Union during the next academic year. Being an officer is a huge opportunity - you will have the honour of representing the student body, and it’s a massive CV boost. There are seven fulltime positions up for grabs, along with various part-time officer roles which can be done alongside studies. The elections take place in Week 8 of this term - to find out more, visit www.warwicksu.com/ elections. Alternatively, you can email me via cosmo.march@warwicksu. com or just come by my office in SUHQ and I’ll be happy to answer any of your electionrelated queries! news in brief marawthon outside broadcast week 5 From Monday 4th February at 12pm to 4pm on Friday 8th February, Radio Warwick will be broadcasting NON-STOP on the Piazza for 100 hours. All their regular scheduled shows will be presented using the outside set-up, and they’ll have special content to keep things going throughout the night. This event aims to raise funds for Coventry Cyrenians, a local charity providing a range of services for homeless, disadvantaged and vulnerable people within the Coventry area. The event will be known as the ‘MaRaWthon Outside Broadcast’ - all the info can be found at radio.warwick.ac.uk/marawthonob or on the JustGiving donation page: justgiving.co.uk/marawthonob.

pizazz
sunday week 5
Pizazz is Warwick University’s annual student dance spectacular! Hosted by Warwick Tap, it brings together hundreds of dancers from various different societies and clubs - last year, Pizazz showcased the talents of Classical and Modern Dance, Street Vibe, Latin & Ballroom, EQHO, Bellydance, Breakdance, Irish Dancing, Salsa and, of course, Tap themselves. Taking place at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington on Sunday Week 5, there will be two performances this year: one at 3pm and another at 7:30pm. Tickets will be available soon online – keep checking the SU website for details!
tuesday week 6 On Tuesday 12th February, we’ll be bringing you another opportunity to get yourself tested for STIs (sexually-transmitted infections) as the GUM Clinic returns to campus. As always, it’s non-invasive and there’s no need to make an appointment – just turn up on the day and you’ll be seen! Whether you’ve had unprotected sex recently or just want to get a clean bill of health, this is an ideal opportunity to get checked out as it’s completely free and confidential. At the time of writing the clinic is scheduled to take place in Meetings Rooms 4&5 of SUHQ from 12pm, but make sure you check the calendar on the SU website for any updates!
officer elections 2013 nominations open
2013
NOMINATIONS We’re nearing that time again when the Union is besieged by orange publicity and swathes of candidates and their minions rush busily around campus asking you for your vote. The Officer Elections 2013 are coming very soon to your SU!
WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT? Sabbatical Officers are both the figureheads of the student population and the leaders of your Union – they sit on key strategy boards of the University, oversee all aspects of our daily operations and steer the direction of the SU in line with your wishes. Most importantly, however, they represent YOU at a local, regional and national level, so it’s important that you vote and pick the people who best embody your views! Quite aside from heading up a vibrant membershipbased organisation, it’s also great hands-on experience of an operational charity and is great for your CV! If you’d like a better idea of what being a Sabbatical Officer entails, head over to WARWICKSU.COM/OFFICERS - or, alternatively, pop in and speak to any of the current Sabb team in SUHQ and they’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about their roles.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED Aside from these full-time positions, there are also a number of part-time roles up for grabs, as well as Liberation Officer posts to represent specific minority groups. Nominations open on Friday 8th February (Week 5) and close the following week (Friday 15th Feb) if you’re interested in running – you can find out more about the Union’s democratic processes over at WARWICKSU.COM/DEMOCRACY.
