The opportunities for involvement are endless and over these first weeks we showcase all that we offer. Make sure you try everything at least once, and enjoy every second of your Freshers Week. registering
www.warwicksu.com
The Warwick SU website allows you to buy tickets to all of our events, join societies, vote in elections and generally keep up to date with everything that’s going on in the SU. The good news is that you don’t need to register separately with us. Just create your university IT account when enrolling and you’ll be able to use the same login details on our site as well. Simple as that!
Make sure you click to select that the Students’ Union can receive your data when enrolling. If you didn’t do this at the time, follow the instructions at www.warwicksu.com/feedback/dataprotection. If that doesn’t help and you’re still having problems, email helpdesk@warwicksu.com and we’ll get you up and running as quickly as we can! And while we’re on the topic of registering – make sure you register with the Health Centre during your first few days here. It’s just a case of filling in a simple form (part of the University’s Welcome Pack in your room when you arrive) and popping along to the Meeting Rooms in SUHQ during Week One. Have your NHS number to hand and once complete you’ll be registered for all your time living on campus!

why should you spend your money here? Every single penny you spend in the Union is directly reinvested for your benefit. To put it bluntly, if you don’t buy things here we can’t give you clubs and societies, the Student Advice Centre, part-time jobs, club nights…the list goes on. This is your Union – use it!

drinking Drinking in kitchens is dull, dull, dull. Freshers is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go out and meet thousands of people at once (and then embarrassingly realise that 3 weeks later you don’t know anyone’s name!). Whether you fancy a cold beer, tasty cocktail or even champagne, we’ve got the lot, and all for less if you’re eating@warwick.
From classy cocktails and white wine spritzers to international beers and Victorian lemonade, The Terrace Bar’s modern and sleek design offers a great stop-off before a night out. Opening Hours Monday - Friday Saturday - Sunday
12pm - late 5pm - late
You don’t have to drink alcohol to have fun. If you’re not a big drinker or are tee-total, then don’t get pressured into drinking. We’re proud of our responsible drinking campaign ‘What if…’ and all of our outlet staff have the right to refuse to serve you if we think you’ve had enough. If you have any concerns, check out www.warwicksu.com/whatif.
At just £55, the Freshers Pass covers every SU Ents event taking place from Monday 4th – Sunday 17th October* inclusive (including the Freshers Party!), saving you a tidy sum on overall ticket prices. For the super-hardcore, we offer the Platinum Card for only £200. This gets you into every Ents-promoted event in The Copper Rooms for the academic year, potentially saving you £100s on clubbing, gigs and entertainment. 6 Buy yours online from 13th Sept

When you’re looking to blow off steam after another hard day’s study, there’s no better place to hit up than our newly-redeveloped nightclub complex, The Copper Rooms. Your SU runs at least 4 different events a week, offering a wide range of nights out with something to suit all tastes. Whether you’re a pop fan, cheese-lover, dancehead, booty grinder, rocker, indie kid or raver, there’s bound to be something in our programme of regular events which tickles your fancy (in fact, most of these things happen all in the same night at O.M.G!) Here’s a small taste of our regular events…

welcome parties It’s on! Celebrate your first nights of freedom in style by joining us for an event that’s going to be properly off the hook. Grab yourself a Freshers T-shirt for £5 from the Freshers Fair and head along to the Union in the evening as we come out all guns blazing for the Boxfresh tour feat. Reverend Sound System & Ocelot. Expect giveaways, décor and clothing deals galore in what promises to be a right rollicking start to your new life here at Warwick!
For those of you who prefer a quieter evening out, we also run a more relaxed programme of entertainment in favourite campus hangouts like The Terrace Bar & Curiositea. Better yet, if there’s something we’re not doing that you’d like to see, you can always put on your own event! With regular society showcases and a cast of memorable characters on the door, Warwick SU is the biggest, safest and most student-friendly venue in the local area. As always, we look forward to seeing you out and about during your time here!

improving
www.warwicksu.com/haveyoursay
We don’t always get everything right here at Warwick SU, and it’s up to you to tell us where we’re going wrong. If we don’t have your favourite sandwich filling in The Bread Oven, you and your mates want more RnB in The Copper Rooms or you think The Terrace Bar needs a certain cocktail – we need you to get in touch. It’s really important that we hear from you during your first weeks here – if there’s something we can change to make your life at Warwick better, we want to know. Have your say in 5 ways: By email - feedback@warwicksu.com. Online - fill in the form at www.warwicksu.com/haveyoursay. By paper - fill in a paper form in any outlet. In a group - come to a focus group (details at www.warwicksu.com/haveyoursay). In person - drop in and talk to the Democracy & Communications Officer (upstairs, SUHQ). There will, however, be some things that we can’t do. In order to provide the incredible choice of societies and sports clubs, keep the Student Advice Centre going and to employ our staff there’s simply no way we can, for example, charge 10p for your favourite pint! We have to be realistic and there will be some suggestions we simply can’t take forward. When this happens though we’ll let you know and we promise to be honest with you. It’s your Union after all!
Where can you get all this on your doorstep? • £3 Cinema tickets! • £5 Tickets on all live events! (Limited availability) • Biggest comedians in the country! • Largest arts centre in the midlands! • Café, bookshop, restaurant, Rise music and dvd store and importantly a licensed bar!

worrying
www.warwicksu.com/advice
Being a fresher can be scary. It’s probably your first time away from home, looking after yourself and managing your own money. Sometimes all you need to do is chat with someone and check that you’re doing the right thing, and that’s where we come in.

volunteering www.warwicksu.com/volunteering Once you’ve had a couple of days to settle in, it’s time to start working out what you want to do with your time at Uni. We recommend having a go at everything – sports, societies, clubbing and volunteering. Warwick Volunteers will be showcasing their projects at the Volunteering and Democracy Fair, Friday Week One and the opportunities are endless. Check out their website at www.warwicksu.com/volunteering for more details. There are also plenty of volunteer roles available in your Union – why not spend a couple of hours a week helping at the Student Advice Centre Reception, look out for the SSLC elections in your lectures during Weeks 2 and 3 or run to be a Union Councillor in the Autumn Elections?
Volunteering will give you an immediate CV-boost and helps you meet even more people during Freshers. Just think, this time next year you could be a Freshers Helper in a neon t-shirt showing the next set of newbies in!

frequently asked questions Right now there are probably a million and one questions going through your head, so we’ve put together a quick frequently asked questions page. For all other questions email enquiries@warwicksu.com or phone 024 765 72777.
what is the students’ union? We’re a charity which exists solely to provide services to our members, from advice, representation and employability to food and drink. We’re completely separate from the University and don’t make a profit. Every penny you spend here is reinvested for your benefit.
where do I collect my keys? It depends which accommodation you’re in. Each hall is signposted as you arrive and you pick up your keys nearby – if in doubt ask a Freshers Helper.
where do I get my university card? Rootes Building – that’s the big white building next to the Students’ Union across the Piazza.
will I make any friends? YES! Everyone is scared about this before coming to University but trust us, you’ll be fine. If you’ve got ANY concerns then speak to someone in the Student Advice Centre or chat to the Welfare Officer.
where’s the best place to get coffee? Curiositea or Xananas. Fact.
which is the best night to go out? Depends on your music taste! We strongly recommend that you try everything at least once – it’s the only way you’ll find your favourite.
i want to change accommodation, where do I go? The University has some provision for this but you normally have to wait a couple of weeks. Ask at Rootes Reception to find out more.
how do I learn my way around? It’ll take a while but you’ll be surprised how quickly you pick things up. Don’t be afraid to ask and you can find maps on the University’s website.
what if I can’t cook? Warwick SU’s got heaps of outlets to stop you going hungry no matter what your budget. Also keep an eye out for the University’s cook-off challenges in Rootes during the first couple of weeks! 18
