YOUR UNION - HOW IT WORKS

Your Representatives The Union is presided over by a team of full-time student Sabbatical Officers, who are elected annually by our members (that means every single one of you!) and are based in SUHQ. Their job is to oversee the running of the organisation and head up specific areas of our operation, as well as sitting on various committees within the University to represent your views. This year’s Sabbatical Team, elected in February 2011, is as follows:

We are the independent voice of students here at Warwick University – although the SU receives an annual grant from the University and works closely with it, are not a part of its formal structure, and are thus able to represent your views at a local, regional and national level.

Where Your Money Goes Warwick SU is a self-sustaining not-for-profit organisation. Unlike commercial highstreet venues, we do not exist to make a profit, since all the money we bring in through our commercial outlets (bars, restaurants, cafés and nightclubs) is directly reinvested back into other services for Warwick students –Clubs & Societies, Advice & Welfare services, Campaigns, Democracy and more. As a registered charity, it directly benefits you to use our services - every time you buy an event ticket for The Copper Rooms, baguette in The Bread Oven, pint in The Dirty Duck, meal in Xananas or cup of coffee in Curiositea, that money goes right back into the pot to fund student activities. Put simply, without your support and loyalty, we wouldn’t exist! Here’s a rough breakdown of where your money goes when you use any of the SU’s commercial services: How the Union works diagram

Warwick SU is a not-for-profit organisation, meaning that any money we make, we plough straight back into student services that benefit you. As this year’s Union Development Officer, it’s my role to ensure that the Union is doing the best it can for every student. I oversee the Union’s £7 million turnover and provide support for clubs and societies, helping them to put on big events throughout the year such as the Real Ale Festival and One World Week. It’s also my job to ensure that the Union’s outlets (The Dirty Duck, The Bread Oven, The Terrace Bar, Xananas, Curiositea and The Copper Rooms) are delivering services that students want, at a price that you agree with. From putting on a new night in The Copper Rooms to altering the menus of our food outlets, I’d love to hear your thoughts - if you have any feedback or suggestions, please e-mail us via feedback@warwicksu.com or pop in to see me. Representation

One of the primary purposes of Warwick SU is to represent you. Whether it’s to your academic department, to the University, the local council or nationally, we’re a great place to get support and help. This is most obvious when it comes to academic issues such as appeals and complaints, but can cover anything from housing issues to healthcare. Remember that our collective voice is much stronger than a lone one!

Liaison Committee SSLC Student-Staff Made up of students, staff and heads of departments, SSLCs provide an accessible arena for students to discuss any concerns they have with teaching, learning and student support services with the academic staff from their department. They also provide an opportunity for the department to receive feedback from students, particularly if changes to a course are proposed. This is the strongest mechanism for getting involved with how your academic life at Warwick is shaped. You can run for election as an SSLC Representative in the first few weeks of Term 1! education@warwicksu.com 024 7657 2779

Don’t just talk about these issues - change them. Visit www.warwicksu.com/sslc to make your voice heard.

Level 2, SUHQ

Students will talk about their life as a student at Warwick, and chat with pupils about their perceptions of the University experience. Participants will have the chance to give something back to the local community and hopefully motivate the next generation of University students, many of whom may not have considered University as an option. The scheme runs throughout the year, so look out for information on the SU website on how to apply or send an email to the Education Officer via education@warwicksu.com to find out more. Have the courage to Inspire!

warwicksu.com/education

Warwick SU runs an access scheme called Inspire which involves students visiting an array of mixed comprehensive schools in the West Midlands area.

Inspire students at a local college

Part of my job involves co-ordinating the Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) system that allows your voice to be heard on how your course is run. I also work closely with individual students who have run into difficulties with their academic study at Warwick. Widening access to education is another of my key priorities - I run Warwick SU’s very own schools outreach program, Warwick Inspire, and hold the University to account on how well it’s doing to improve access for students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. Finally, if you have any problems relating to your course or department, or a more general problem about any aspect of your academic experience, feel free to send me an email or drop into my office so I can do my level best to help you out. Democracy

Warwick SU is democratic – it’s up to you, our members, to set policy and elect Officers to make decisions on your behalf. You can be involved in this process in so many ways, from emailing us feedback and voting to standing to be a Councillor or Union Officer.

So How Does It Work? Policy

Officers

Warwick SU has policies that give us a stance on issues (fees, climate change etc.) and mandate us to do certain things (run campaigns, lobby for change etc).

Each year you elect 7 Sabbatical Officers to work full-time and direct the Students’ Union, and they are supported by 30 Part-Time Officers who take on positions alongside their studies. Officers have responsibility for representing students to the University, running campaigns and representing different interests within the Union.

Policy can be created by any student at the University and is most commonly passed by either Union Council or Referenda. To see our existing policies and learn how to create new ones, visit our website at www.warwicksu.com/policy.

You can find out more about the different roles at www.warwicksu.com/officers and by checking out the Officer Directory near the end of this guide.

Vote! No commitment Voting takes seconds and is all done online. Each of you has a vote and it’s important that you use it – you can make a very real difference!

Union Council 7 meetings per year You can run to be a Union Councillor and represent your fellow students in the Autumn Elections (Week 3, Term 1). It’s not a complicated process and not a huge time commitment – more info at www.warwicksu.com/council.

Elections Group High commitment at elections periods Elections Group is responsible for making sure all the Union’s elections and referenda run smoothly. You have to be impartial but can get a huge CV-boost and have a real say in how the Union operates.

The NUS is an organisation made up of Students’ Unions from across the country, including Warwick as an affiliated member. Being part of the NUS gives you your student discount, but also provides Warwick with resources and support throughout the year as well as national campaigns for students from fees and funding to housing and social welfare.

As your Democracy Officer it’s my job to oversee Warwick SU’s democratic processes and to get you involved in running your Union. From Union Council to Referenda, there’s plenty to get involved in and lots of chances to boost your employability. Whether by running for a post yourself or simply voting, it’s really important that each of you has a say in how your Union is run. To the University you are simply students but to us you are members, and it’s important you don’t forget that – if there’s something you want us to be campaigning on, a stance you think we should take or a change you want to make, our democratic processes can help make it happen. Throughout the year there’ll be lots of chances for you to get involved in Union democracy, and whether you want to get heavily involved or haven’t got the time, please make sure you vote. This is your Union. Be part of it. Chris Luck

welfare

There are many potential problems facing students nowadays - with your course, with housing, with the law, with anything. Luckily, the Student Advice Centre is here to help. The Citizens’ Advice Bureau of campus, we run a free, confidential and informal service to support your life at University. We are located on the second floor of SUHQ, next to the lift. Our four fully-trained advisors can help with issues related to housing, immigration, money, study, consumer rights and much more. Our advisors will try their utmost to make sure you can make an informed decision about the difficulties that you may face - and, if we can’t help, we’ll direct you to someone who can.

welfare@warwicksu.com 024 7657 2824 Level 2, SUHQ warwicksu.com/advice

During term-time, student volunteers staff our reception desk. They will welcome you and help book appointments - however, it will save you time to either phone ahead or e-mail. The Student Advice Centre receives over 6,000 enquiries per year. If you’re facing a problem, and you don’t know who to speak to, then try us!

Counselling The University runs an invaluable, confidential counselling service and a faith-based alternative (if you feel it is more appropriate to speak to someone of faith). The University Counselling Service provides an opportunity for all Warwick students to access professional counselling so that they may better develop and fulfil their personal, academic and professional potential. Go to go.warwick.ac.uk/supportservices for more information. Disability Services Disability Services work to help address barriers to study for students with hearing and visual impairments, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, AD(H)D, mobility impairments, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, dysgraphia, ‘unseen’ disabilities such as asthma, epilepsy and diabetes, plus any other conditions. Run at the end of the academic year, this campaign aims to make sure that when students leave their houses in Leamington, useful or reusable possessions get reused or recycled. A Green Brigade is assembled to run a project similar to the campus rooms clearance run by Warwick Volunteers, focusing on vacated houses in Leamington. The Green Brigade collects as many reusable items left behind by students as possible to give to local charity shops and shelters, rather than having it all ending up in landfill sites. It is a great way to give back to the communities that we live in and support worthwhile charities in the local area.

The Student Advice Centre and the University do a lot to provide and maintain services that deal with these issues but if you have any questions, need help or just fancy a chat, please email me or come and find me in the SU. Everything that you tell me can be kept confidential, plus I make an excellent cup of tea! Izzy John

WELFARE OFFICER

Want to chat? We also have: free condoms attack alarms

don’t forget to visit www.warwicksu.com

We also advise students on how to find housemates, and what the general house hunting timeline should be. The campaign starts in the middle of Term 1, and carries on into Term 2.

This may sound a little alarming at this stage – but don’t worry. Welfare services can also mean getting involved in empowering campaigns, whether that’s encouraging people to donate blood or bone marrow, participating in a volunteer scheme to improve the lives of others or getting stuck in to the liberation of minority groups such as women, BME, LGBTUA+ or disabled students.

don’t forget to visit www.warwicksu.com

One thing everyone has to do at Uni at some point is find off-campus accommodation. Here’s where we help out - our Relax housing campaign aims to inform students about their options with regards to house hunting, to ensure that they are equipped with the best strategies and information, and to be aware of the myths surrounding house hunting (“All the good properties go first”, “There aren’t enough houses offcampus for all students”, and “I always get value for money”). The campaign aims to raise awareness of rights of the students as tenants and to get the message across that there is no need to rush!

You never know how important Welfare services are until you need to use them. Over the next few years it’s possible that you and your friends may need information or advice about a variety of issues such as housing, safe sex, immigration, mental health, reporting hate crimes – or maybe you will just want to chat about personal issues which may be affecting your University experience.

campaigns

Here at Warwick SU we’re proud of the campaigns that we run and help facilitate. From anti-racism and environmental action to local transport and TV licensing, we have a strong tradition of taking action as a student body. We have elected Campaigns Officers who are responsible for raising awareness in specific areas, but there are also plenty of campaign societies to get involved with. Whether you want to start a petition, lobby the University or march on Downing Street, your Union is here to help you! Listed below are some of our most prominent campaigns, but there are plenty more including Blood and Bone Marrow Donations, Black History Month, STOP! Human Trafficking, and Women’s Week. Check out www.warwicksu.com/campaigns to find out more.

campaignsforum@warwicksu.com 024 7657 2788 Level 2, SUHQ warwicksu.com/campaigns

‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’ - Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Every year, Amnesty International Society organises a jam-packed schedule with talks from key speakers, films and demonstrations relating to global human rights. Issues raised range from the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to the death penalty, from forced migration and asylum seekers to coping in a world that is becoming increasingly securitised. The week aims to raise awareness about the realities and challenges our world faces.

14 14

Each year, Pride gets together with the Students’ Union and puts on a week of events designed to raise awareness of the plight of LGBTUA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, undefined and asexual) students, ranging from talks and debates to taster sessions and clubbing events. Held late in Term 1, the week is organised by Warwick Pride society and our Campaigns Officer (contact details in the directories at the back). Come along and celebrate the fact that people should take pride in their sexual orientation and gender identity!

www.fairtrade.org.uk

Go Green Week is a national event which forms the cornerstone of the People and Planet society’s environmental campaign. With a wide variety of activities occurring across the country, it is the biggest studentled environment week in the UK. The programme includes debates on new green technologies, green politics and sustainable development. There are also workshops, volunteer conservation projects and sports activities planned. The schedule has five different themed days, packed with a variety of activities all concentrating on green issues.

Bringing together a host of SU societies including People & Planet, This is Africa and the Union’s various Campaigning factions, this is your chance to get involved in one of the calendar’s most important events.

When doctors tell you to “look after your health”, what pops into your head? Most people equate ‘health’ with physical health, but this misses out a large portion of what we need to keep ourselves on top of everything: good mental health. This isn’t something you have, but something you do, and looking after your mental health and well-being is just as important as looking after your physical body. Feel Good Week happens once a year, with free healthy snacks and advice on how to stay fit and healthy, so you can realise your full potential during exam season.

One of the most important campaigns on campus is that of encouraging safe sex practice and raising awareness of STI transmission. In order to curb the spreading and contracting of STIs, the Welfare Officer works in conjunction with Warwick Hospital’s sexual health facilities to bring mobile clinics to campus. There’s no need to make an appointment!

don’t forget to visit www.warwicksu.com

Fairtrade offers 7.5 million people in the developing world a more secure future, and every year Fairtrade Fortnight lands in Warwick during Term 2. This year’s event is scheduled to run between 28th February – 13th March 2012, bringing you a range of activities designed to raise awareness of ethical production practices and economic inequity throughout the world. Previous programmes have featured educational film screenings, entertainment nights, world record attempts, ethical fashion shows and a talk from a Fairtrade producer from Ghana.

GUM (Genito-Urinary Medicine) clinics come to campus twice a term to carry out free and confidential sexual health checks for transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, hepatitis B, syphilis and HIV.

societies

From Warwick Student Cinema to Big Band, there really is something for everyone at Warwick SU. Societies bring together students who are interested in or care about a certain issue or activity, or simply want to try something new. The Union supports these societies by providing funding, training and facilities for their activities to take place in. We have more societies than any other Students’ Union in the country, so you’ve made the right choice coming to Warwick! To see what we can offer you, visit www.warwicksu.com/societies or check out the directory at the back of this guide.

So, what do societies do, exactly? Our societies cover just about every area of interest or activity you could imagine. If there isn’t a society for something you’re interested in, you’re more than welcome to get a few people together and start one up.

societies@warwicksu.com 024 7657 2781 Level 2, SUHQ warwicksu.com/societies

Joining a society is a great way to try out something completely new, make new friends or simply have a whole lot of fun. There are also opportunities to run societies, which will get you dealing with budgets, organising trips and picking up skills that you won’t get from just doing your degree.

How do I join?

▪▪ Join the Societies Federation

from the Societies tab on the SU website. It’s only £14 for one year’s membership and, once paid, you can join any societies you like. This money goes straight back to societies in the budget, helping to fund all the wild and wonderful events that they put on, as well as funding SU services that societies need to support them.

▪▪ Societies usually charge around £3

for membership: an absolute bargain considering the amazing experiences you’ll have all year!

▪▪ You can join any of the societies online at

www.warwicksu.com/societies or at the Societies Fair.

16 16

Societies Fair

▪▪ The Societies Fair happens during Week 1 at the start of the year and is spread over two days.

▪▪ Each society will have a stall at the fair. You can chat to the people running the society and get a taste of what each of them involves.

▪▪ The Societies Fair takes place on

Wednesday and Thursday of Week 1 (5th and 6th October)

▪▪ On Wednesday of Week 1 the following

society categories will have a chance to show themselves off: Activities & Games, Film & Media, Food & Drink, Music Appreciation, Performance.

▪▪ On Thursday Week 1: Academic,

Campaigning, Cultural, Hall Societies, Religious & Belief and Welfare.

▪▪ Make sure you join your Hall society (e.g.

Jack Martin Society if you’re living in Jack Martin), as these are a great way to get to know people living in your halls who aren’t sharing your kitchen. Hall societies run trips, organise socials and enter some of the sports leagues. If you’re feeling really eager to get involved and fancy running your hall society this year, elections will be taking place towards the start of term.

▪▪ When you find societies you like, you can grab a barcode from them and buy your memberships there and then.

Alternatively, you can join at anytime online at www.warwicksu.com/societies.

My job is to help societies provide the best experience for all of our members. Over the next year, I’ll be responsible for allocating society budgets and giving training and advice to society exec members. On top of that, I’ll help you to put on events, put together themed weeks and organise tours abroad. I’m also here to help you set up a brand new society if you fancy a challenge! Whether you’re a Fresher, crusty old hand or Postgraduate, make sure you come to both days of the Societies Fair in Week 1 to check out the fantastic range of societies we offer. If you’ve got any questions or just fancy a chat, you can find me in my office in SUHQ or feel free to drop me an email. Matthew Rogers SOCIETIES OFFICER

Whether you want high-level competition, occasional keep-fit sessions, adrenaline-fuelled weekend trips or just relaxed fun with a group of friends, there’ll be something that takes your fancy. Here are a few facts about sport at Warwick:

▪▪ There’s a lot of it! We have over 70 different sports clubs (anything from Hockey and Football to Floorball and Octopush!), open to all abilities.

▪▪ At Warwick you can go from complete beginner to coach, black belt or national level competitor in just a few years.

▪▪ Joining a sports club isn’t just about playing sport - each club has its own character and active social scene.

▪▪ Sport at Warwick is cheap. After you have paid the initial fee to join, all our clubs are just £5.

WHAT IS WARWICK SPORT? SPORTS FIXTURES Warwick Sport is a joint venture between the Students’ Union and the University which oversees all sport. It basically means that sport is easier to get involved with, and that it benefits from improved facilities.

sports@warwicksu.com 024 7657 2776 Level 2, SUHQ warwicksu.com/sports

You have to join Warwick Sport to join any club at Warwick. Membership gives you unlimited access to a range of sports facilities including halls, pitches and the swimming pool, basic sports insurance, subsidised coaching, umpiring and first aid courses and a free sports physiotherapy session.

LEAGUES & LADDERS If you still think club sport isn’t your thing you could always try one of our ladders or internal Football, Cricket and Mixed Netball leagues. Open to all, you just need to get a group of friends together (all members of Warwick Sport), come up with a team name and sign up early. Look out for details in Warwick Sport emails and on the Union and Warwick Sport websites near the beginning of Term 1.

Like most UK Universities, Wednesday afternoon is Sports afternoon at Warwick. The University commits to keeping the time free from academic activity so that you are able to go and represent Warwick across the country at every sport imaginable. Whether it’s Rugby, Football or Canoe Polo, Warwick has a strong reputation across all the BUCS (British Universities and College Sports) leagues, and it’s only getting stronger. Don’t worry if you haven’t reached national standards yet and just want a run-about - every single club offers beginners’ courses and are open to all standards, as well as active leagues at casual level in all of our most popular sports.

Focus clubs Focus clubs are selected by Warwick Sport for extra assistance as a result of excellent performances in recent years. For 2011-12 these clubs are Swimming, Rowing, Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Football, Women’s Football, and Rugby Union. Members of the ‘focus squads’ in these clubs will benefit from increased support from Warwick Sport, with customised training schedules, performance sessions with the fitness suite staff and nutrition and psychology sessions with experts.

There’s always something exciting going on at Warwick SU, as any stroll through the Union will show you. Every week you’ll find society performances in the Atrium and Piazza, be able to get bargains at our regular indoor markets, and find freebies being handed out left, right and centre – we really are non-stop! Below we’ve got a small taster of what to expect, but remember, this really is just the basics. If you want to start your own student-run event, from themed weeks to one-off shows, pop into SUHQ Reception and someone will be able to give you a hand. Check out www.warwicksu.com throughout the year to make sure you don’t miss out.

WSAF 2012

The largest student-run international festival in the world, OWW is a vivid explosion of colour and energy which celebrates the incredible diversity of students at Warwick.

Stimulating personal development and inspiring an ethos based on acceptance and appreciation of the world’s cultures, One World Week is comprised of various elements: the Forums attract high-profile speakers and stimulate debate on key topics facing the world today; the Festival takes place in and around the Union building and features activities and performances; the Arts bring every creative element in the world to campus, while Sports gets students of all nationalities together to enjoy competitions and new activities.

Warwick Entrepreneurs exists to develop future entrepreneurs by encouraging a culture of innovation and collaboration. This year sees the launch of ‘The Apprentice’ challenge and the new Incubator, which aims to support students throughout the process of taking their ideas to successful businesses. Membership is open to all at Warwick. www.WarwickEntrepreneurs.com 20 20

The Warwick Student Arts Festival (WSAF) is the largest student-run arts festival in the UK. Taking place across campus in the final week of the academic year, the festival showcases all the amazing talent and skills which our students possess. Highlights each year range from concerts and dance performances to theatre and community projects!

Billed as one of the most bizarre weeks of the campus calendar, RAG Week descends in Term 1. Various items can be delivered to lectures (including chocolates, pints or even a single red rose), giant animals appear round campus and a whole plethora of events grace the evenings at the Union. There’s even time for some mischief. ‘Gnomings’ (involving a target being cling-filmed to a tree and covered in flour, water and baked beans) offer some cheeky opportunities for revenge, perfect for if a flatmate hasn’t been doing their share of the washing up. The best bit? The whole thing’s for charity!

The annual flagship event of the Economics Society at Warwick, the summit is held over a weekend in February. Entirely student-run, the event doesn’t just revolve around economics: it also touches on many other relevant topics in the sphere of social studies such as development, politics, globalisation and international relations.

Every year in Term 2 we take on our arch-rivals Coventry University to see who can claim the title of the greatest sporting institution this side of the A46. Spanning the entire spectrum of sporting activities, every game, match and race is crucial. Thus far, Warwick are the undefeated Varsity champions, but Coventry are always coming back seeking revenge...

The Real Ale Festival is all about introducing people to beer in its cask-conditioned form. Many people have never tasted a good pint of bitter before, and still more are unaware of the huge variety that is available under the ‘ale’ heading. The Real Ale Society hosts the biggest and best student beer festival in the country. With over 110 beers, ciders, fruit wines and meads to try, there is guaranteed to be a drink that will suit everyone’s palate!

When it comes to entertainment on campus, Warwick SU covers everything from big-name DJs and established acts to student bands, theatre, comedy, sport and dance. Whether it’s a club night in our two-floor venue or a society event, there’s always something interesting going on that’s sure to appeal to even the most wayward tastes – and, if not, you or your society can always book out the venue to put on your own night! Pop up to the Entertainments Department in SUHQ to find out more, and look out for our termly wallplanners for details of everything that’s coming up. If clubbing isn’t your thing, we also run a series of music-based evening events in The Terrace Bar and The Dirty Duck which are designed to provide a more relaxed atmosphere for socialising, including a weekly acoustic night and chilled student DJ sets. In addition, we regularly show key big-screen sport fixtures which always guarantee the best atmosphere on campus! As you can see, we pride ourselves on offering something for everyone here at the Union – whether you’re content to savour our endeavours or fancy having a go yourself, the Entertainments Department is here to help make it happen. Don’t forget that, as with all of Warwick SU’s commercial services, any money you spend in The Copper Rooms is directly reinvested for your benefit - with that in mind, here’s a taste of what to expect this year from your SU!

TIME FOR A LITTLE MONKEY BUSINESS!

On Wednesday nights we open the doors to a world of guilty pleasures by inviting you to scoff on a tasty slab of musical fromage. Disco Dave brings the cheese each and every week as we take a trip back through the decades that time and taste forgot, paying tribute to those sing-along retro classics we all know and secretly love. Look out for big giveaways, fancy dress themes and special guests throughout the year at Pop!, the ultimate student spectacular!

Warwick SU’s weekly flagship commercial/chart club night. If it’s of the moment, it’s at Top B - cheap entry coupled with cheaper drinks makes this the logical destination for those looking to start their weekend with a BANG!

Twice a term, we ask everyone to do the unthinkable and cram themselves back into that old school uniform for a night of naughty nostalgia. If you still pine for the good old days when Girl Power ruled the roost and Pokemon encouraged you to ‘catch ’em all’, Skool Dayz needs YOU to help us relive the best (and worst) tunes from music’s finest era: the 90s and early noughties.

Your host, Spank the Monkey (whom we guarantee you will grow to love once you get to know him) will be in charge of proceedings as our resident DJs provide a banging barrage of the big tunes YOU want to hear. Make sure you get your tickets in advance and we’ll see you down the front!

RAG will be manning the sweet stall all night, and those of you who consider yourselves ‘too cool for school’ can feel free to rip upstairs for some old-skool beats and breaks courtesy of DJ P!

Right from the start of Orientation Week, we’ll do our best to make you feel at home and adjust to life in the UK. Go Global

Immigration Services

The Go Global campaign seeks to get home and international students thinking globally, with the ultimate aim that each and every student can have a global experience whilst at Warwick. In addition, Go Global works with World@Warwick Society which runs a brilliant buddy scheme to make sure that non-UK students aren’t at a loose end when they come to Warwick. Another aspect of the campaign seeks to find new and exciting ways to improve integration of international/EU students into the vibrant Warwick community.

Student Advice Centre (Warwick SU) We have a dedicated member of staff in our independent and confidential Advice Centre who advises on immigration matters.

Representation Warwick SU’s strong representation structure incorporates non-UK students as much as any other. There are numerous ways to get involved in our internal decision-making processes: to bring up specific international student issues, we have an International Forum which you should get in touch with, and get involved in. internationalforum@warwicksu.com

Don’t worry if dancing the night away at nightclub events isn’t your thing - we have opportunities and activities for Postgraduates and encourage you to get involved as much as possible. jobs & volunteering

jobs at warwick su Here in the Union we employ around 250 part-time student staff. We have a whole host of different roles available – from bar staff and Technical Services crew to our student Street Team. Working for the SU part-time is a great opportunity to meet people, have fun and – most importantly – earn a bit of extra cash. As a Union, we understand that students are under a lot of pressure at specific points during the year – particularly at exam time. We always try our best to be flexible with our part-time staff, and accommodate any requests for fewer shifts. This is a lot easier for us than for other organisations, as when everyone is busy with exams we are always a little quieter than usual! For details on how to apply for any of our roles within the SU, check out the jobs section of our website at www.warwicksu.com/jobs. We always take on new staff during the Freshers period, but new roles always crop up throughout the year so keep checking the SU website for details.
