Sabb Blab So, the first term of the year is nearly over. Never fear, though – the Union is still here to keep you well-fed and entertained during these last few weeks! This is definitely the time to be festive: check out our Christmas specials in Curiositea if you fancy a hot chocolate, or get your glad rags on and ice-skate across the Atrium at Week 10’s Christmas Ball! What this isn’t the time for, though, is panicking over housing! We know that lots of you will want to get your accommodation for next year sorted as soon as possible, but before you rush into signing anything, ask yourself if your hallmates’ quirks will still be amusing 7 months down the line. Most importantly, come to Housing Day in the Atrium on Wednesday Week 9 - I’ll be on hand to wax lyrical about Earlsdon and you can ask the rest of the Sabb team about life in Leamington. Our Advice Centre can even check your housing contract for free! SU Postgraduate Officer postgrads@ warwicksu.com

So, whether you’re off home as soon as term ends or you’ll be working hard on that final PhD chapter well into December, there’s plenty to keep you occupied over the next couple of weeks. In the immortal words of Noddy Holder, “It’s Chriiiiiiiiistmas!” – from everyone at the Union, enjoy! - Lucy Gill

news in brief ASM results – now up online A massive thankyou to everyone who voted on the issues raised at this term’s All Student Meeting in Week 7 – the results have been tallied and are now available to view online at www.warwicksu.com/democracy, where you can also find out more about how to submit your own motions for the next meeting!

Warwick Debating Union – Monday Week 9 Can we be good without a god? Do objective moral truths exist? Do they require the existence of a god to give them authority? Is it the influence of such a god which makes us moral? Or is morality simply an evolved capacity of humans, and moral rules the resulting cultural inheritance - a code which enables us to live fulfilling lives? Join Warwick Debating Union to listen to our panel of eminent speakers consider these issues at 7pm in IMC.02 (International Manufacturing Centre) on Monday 25th November!

CMD Dance for Sport Relief – Friday Week 9 On Friday 29th November, Classical & Modern Dance will be teaming up with the members of various different sports clubs here at Warwick to bring you ‘Warwick Dance for Sport Relief’ – a riotously entertaining night where each team gets together to perform an original routine in aid of charity! The event will take place from 7:30pm9:30pm in Copper Rooms 1, and tickets are available now via the SU website: www.warwicksu.com/events.

Latin Night – Tuesday Week 10 Get ready for things to get HOT in Copper Rooms 2 as Latin Night returns on Tuesday 3rd December. Guest teachers will be coming in to show everyone the moves and teach you the sultriest shines and body movements in the regular dance classes from 8pm-10pm, before resident DJs take over to spin the sexiest Latin sounds until 1am. Follow Warwick Salsa Dancing Society on Facebook at www.facebook.com/warwicksalsa!

Hungry for Feedback campaign - Term 2 SU Education Officer Erin Davies will be re-launching our Hungry for Feedback campaign next term. Formative essays are being returned now and assessments due next term are already being set, so if you’ve received particularly good or bad feedback on your assessed work, she’d really like to hear from you! Email her all the details via education@warwicksu.com. Want to see your society event featured in a future issue? Email chris.carter@warwicksu.com with all the details!

HOUSING DAY 2013 There are many myths about student housing - chief among them being that the best properties always go really quickly and that you need to have your accommodation for the next academic year sorted by the end of Term 1. Suffice to say, many of these simply aren’t true! Here at the SU, we want to make sure that you don’t rush into a decision which will end up having a major effect on your life and studies here at University, which is why on Wednesday Week 9 we’ll be running the first of our Housing Days in the Atrium. Here you’ll be able to meet with fellow students, Sabbatical Officers and members of our Student Advice Centre team to discuss your options, find out more about the timeline involved in the house-hunting process and get the lowdown on the various different local areas. The important thing is to make sure you’re happy with the property, its location and the people you’re moving in with before taking the plunge – but, most crucially of all, not to panic as there’s plenty of time to make an informed decision and rooms are always available! We’ve also recently been running a photo competition in which we asked for local Community Snapshots and evidence of your Housing Horrors (mould, leaks, cracked tiles, broken furniture - the works!) so that we can better inform students about the value of looking into these areas when selecting their property. These images will also be on display down in the Atrium, and we’ll announce the winners of the accompanying SU food outlet voucher giveaway on the day itself! In the meantime, for more information about student housing in general from our Advice & Welfare team, make sure you visit www.warwicksu.com/housing
