Sabb Blab Week 5 already?! So we’re halfway through the first term of this year, and it has flown by! We’ve got a couple of really important announcements coming up in this instalment of The Bubble. Firstly, Week 3 saw the cross-campus elections of your new Student Council representatives. Thank you to everyone who stood, and everyone who voted (all 2,061 of you – that’s a new record in the Autumn Elections!) These successful individuals will be representing you this coming academic year within the University and the Students’ Union – check out who the winners were below. Well done again to them and best of luck for the year!

Secondly, in Term 3 of last year we asked YOU what you thought about the Students’ Union in our annual membership survey Help Us Help You. This survey is incredibly important in helping us understand how we can improve the Students’ Union and enables us to ensure that the SU is always run by you, the students. One key thing that came out of the survey is that a lot of misconceptions exist about what the Union does and how it operates. Therefore, I’ll be launching the Did You Know? campaign in the coming weeks, designed to give students snippets of facts and figures about how the Union operates that a lot of people might not necessarily know about. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for that! Anyway, enough from me - enjoy this issue of The Bubble and make sure you check out all the things that are going on in the next two weeks!

Help Us Help You Survey 2013 In Term 3 last year, we ran our annual Help Us Help You membership survey, in which we asked YOU what you thought about all aspects of the SU’s service provision for the student body. Whether it’s Clubs & Societies, Food & Beverage outlets, our Entertainments programme, the Student Advice Centre, Democracy, Academic Representation or one of our other areas of operation, we wanted to know what you thought we’re doing well, where we might be going wrong and what we can do to improve. We had thousands of responses from you and have been mulling over your feedback over the summer holidays, putting your suggestions into action wherever possible. In Week 5, we’ll be launching our own response pages via the SU website to let you know! Many of your survey answers showed that there can sometimes be a misconception amongst the student population as to where the SU’s remit lies, and how our different services affect you in your daily life as a student. Our Did You Know? campaign will aim to keep you informed on some key facts & figures about the Union’s operations, as well as busting popular myths and putting to bed various rumours which may have been doing the rounds! We’ll also be launching our own feedback page, where we’ll be responding to your comments in more detail as well as showing you what we’ve been working on to improve the Students’ Union in line with your feedback. Stay tuned to www.warwicksu.com for more updates coming soon - as always, don’t forget that you send us your comments at any time via the SU website, email (feedback@warwicksu.com) or by filling in a paper form in any one of our outlets!
CAPTION COMPETITION Here we have an absolute pearl of a shot from Freshers Weekend this year featuring Postgrad Officer Lucy Gill, Skool Dayz muppet Chris Carter and campus wag Aaron Bowater indulging in some form of high-octane chicanery. But what precisely is going on here?

OFFICER UPDATES The Sabbatical Officer team is elected by the student body to represent you. Here’s a snapshot of what a few of them have been up to since the beginning of term:
Ant Scott - Societies Officer I ran the Socs Convention and Societies Fairs in Week 1, where we had 25% more signups than last year and 39% more Postgrad signups – yay! Much of Week 2 was then spent getting to know execs and devoted to society training. More recently I set up the Inter-Society Forums, which aim to increase collaboration between similar execs, and have been working on an auditing system for society use of Zippy’s (the storage space above The Duck). I also helped with the organisation of One World Week and the recruitment of WSAF coordinators. Perhaps most importantly, I sat on two University funding panels in Week 3 which aim to secure as much funding for societies as possible! Alongside that, I’ve signed off about £30,000 worth of society expenses since Week 1, £60,000 of planning packs, proof-read 11 society sponsorship contracts and replied to just under 400 emails!
Cat Turhan – Welfare Officer Where to start?! I coordinated the Mental Health Awareness support leaflets in this year’s Freshers Bags, and hosted the first International Students’ Association and Campaigns Convention, where we elected an Environment and Ethics officer. I also organised the first of three GUM Clinics to visit campus this term! Much of my time in the first few weeks was spent supporting postgraduates during the housing crisis, alongside dozens of pieces of casework assisting individual students. Alongside that, I began to organise a Go Global fair in conjunction with the International Office, and have started to design the international pages of the SU website!
Lucy Gill – Postgraduate I spent lots of time working with Cat and the Advice Centre to support postgraduates with their housing problems, hosted the first Postgraduate Association meeting, and held a weekly Coffee and Chat session in The Mighty Duck. I’ve also worked with the Senior Tutor in ensuring all PhDs have a personal tutor, started conversations on improving social space for postgrads on campus, met with the University on an expanded induction programme for postgrads, and got the Postgrad section of the SU website up and running (thanks to James Deane in the SU Marketing Department!)
