Sabb Blab So, by now you’ve probably heard that the Students’ Union is democratic and run by you – but how does this work in practice? Well, the first All Student Meeting of the year takes place on Monday Week 7 at 5:30pm in the Atrium. Anyone who comes along can debate policies submitted by students - in the past, these have ranged from campaigning to ban The Sun newspaper from campus in opposition to Page 3, to policies to improve your academic experience.

ddo@ warwicksu.com
Once the debate is over, it goes to an online vote of every student - you can watch the debate video, read the policies, listen to the campaigns and cast your vote! There aren’t many times in life where you get to make regular decisions affecting the organisation you’re part of, so remember to vote in Week 7 for the policies you believe in! As someone much cleverer than me once said, the results are always decided by those who vote. ROB ANKCORN

Week
RAG Week is the flagship fundraising event of the term, and sees campus bombarded with baked beans, giant furry animals and even lecturers receiving lap-dances! With evening entertainment taking place every day of the week and a host of collaborative efforts underway, 2014 is set to be the biggest RAG Week yet – and it’s all in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which aims to make a difference to the lives of young people affected by cancer.
This year’s highlights include:
MONDAY Battle of the Societies (Copper Rooms, 7pm)
What happens when clubs and societies try their hands at each other’s respective activities? Football try Pole Dance, Pole Dance try Opera... the madness goes on!
TUESDAY Poetr y Slamming Open Mic (Leamington Spa, 7.30pm)
Working to the theme of Global Issues, we’re letting it all out using bad words for good causes!
WEDNESDAY Pop! Takeover (Copper Rooms, 10pm) Get gunged in the name of goodness.
THURSDAY Strictly Come Dancing
(Copper Rooms, 6pm)
Warwick Latin and Ballroom Dancesport return with their most popular evening of the year. Which sports club will pick up their feet fastest?
FRIDAY Annual Bar Crawl
Show your true colours and come on down for a night of revelry and celebration after the biggest week of the term!
For all the latest news, stay tuned to www.facebook.com/warwickrag. Students can also get involved with the taking or delivering of orders, stewarding evening entertainments or shaping next year’s RAG Week by emailing rag@warwicksu.com!
On November 19th, students will be taking to the streets of London for a Demonstration for Free Education: No fees. No cuts. No debts. The Demonstration is supported by the National Union of Students (NUS) and other student groups. Warwick SU supports Free Education, and together with the Coventry SU and the Warwick For Free Education Group, have put on Coaches to London for the Demonstration. Places are £5 and are available on the SU’s website.

TAXI CAMPAIGN We had a great response-rate from students when asked for their experiences of taxi malpractice in the local area - here’s some more news on what we’ve been up to with your feedback! SU Democracy & Development Officer Rob Ankcorn has posted a new video on his blog explaining the reasons behind the campaign and what came out of it – check it out on the SU website. In addition to gaining loads of local press and lobbying local councils to raise awareness, we’ve also been in touch with the House of Lords regarding the proposed Taxi Deregulation Bill, and even got a mention in the Chamber while the bill was being debated recently! As a result of this activity, we have also now launched a Taxi Complaints Form on the SU website so that you can report any incidents of being refused service directly to us and we can pass this information on to the relevant authorities for processing – find it at www.warwicksu.com/campaigns/taxis.
Once again, this is a great example of what can happen when we use our collective voice to improve things for students - many thanks to everyone who worked on the campaign or sent in their feedback!
